  • Mostar is a hidden gem of Europe that you haven't heard of.
The Old Bridge in Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina) is a bridge like no other. A jewel of Ottoman architecture, Stari Most (Old Bridge) was built in 1566 by Mimar Hayruddin, a student and apprentice of the architect Mimar Sinan at the order of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.
The Old Bridge of Mostar, also known as Stari Most, is an iconic architectural marvel located in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Old Bridge holds significant cultural and historical importance for the people of Mostar and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole. It has come to symbolize unity and reconciliation, particularly following the conflicts of the 1990s. The bridge serves as a reminder of the region's rich cultural heritage and the need for coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups.
Sadly, Stari Most was destroyed during the Bosnian War in 1993, as the conflict between Bosnian Croats and Bosniaks escalated. However, extensive efforts were made to reconstruct the bridge following the end of the war. The reconstruction project was a symbol of hope and reconciliation, funded by various international organizations and completed in 2004.
However, the Old Bridge in Mostar is not the only thing this city has to offer. Mostar is situated on the banks of the Neretva River and is surrounded by picturesque mountains. It is the fifth-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina and serves as the cultural and economic center of the Herzegovina region.
Mostar's architecture reflects its diverse cultural heritage, with a mix of Ottoman, medieval, and Austro-Hungarian styles. The Old City of Mostar, with its narrow cobblestone streets and traditional buildings, is particularly noteworthy. In addition to the Old Bridge, Mostar is home to several mosques, churches, and historic buildings that showcase its rich architectural legacy.
When you are already in Mostar, then you must visit places that will steal your heart Blagaj, Buna, Kravice Waterfalls and Pocitelj are just some of the places that are relatively close to Mostar and are worth visiting.

Stari most u Mostaru (Bosna i Hercegovina) je zaista most kao nijedan drugi.
Arhitektura Mostara odražava njegovu raznoliku kulturnu baštinu, s mješavinom osmanskih, srednjovjekovnih i austrougarskih stilova.
