I’m glad he mentioned Kurt Cobain because Machiney McWeenie was actually being dubbed as the next Kurt Cobain. Several things wrong with that, people actually like Kurt, probably because he didn’t start feuds with the biggest names in rock or metal. The only feud Kurt ever had was with Axl Rose because let’s face it, Axl hates everyone at some point. Also, when Kurt covered The Man Who Sold The World, he did it with respect to David Bowie while also making it his own and everyone loved it, whereas Machiney… didn’t do that. But the biggest reason I can think of that makes this comparison completely wrong is that Kurt was relatable and didn’t act like a god. I get the impression that Machiney McWeenie thinks he’s untouchable and so he can be ass to whoever he wants. Fortunately, Matt Heafy defended the honour of the metal community by firing back at Machiney, saying “I’d like to formally diss Machine Gun Kelly for ‘being 31-years-old wearing a 16-year-old pop punk cosplay identity on a stage.” That was brilliant Matt. 🤣👏 Also can we leave the Will Smith thing alone for five seconds. 5 seconds later. Here's the thing I like covers. They let different singers and bands bring their own kind of dynamic to a song. Take In This Moment's cover of Creep, or their cover of In The Air Tonight, OR their cover of Call Me - Maria Brink brought her own kind of vocal nuance to those songs. Halocene did the same thing with their covers, Violet Orlandi does as well - Take Halocene and Johnathon Young doing Seether's Broken, or Violet Orlandi doing Chris Isaak's Wicked Game. The point of a cover is to put a loved song into your own hands and put your own nuances into it - Not just take the song and dismember it like it's a character in Corpse Party.
Covers are supposed to be good though, that is not, I like certain covers too, actually there are covers that I like better than the original but this was garbage.
I just compared it to Machiney McWeenie dismembering it like a character in Corpse Party How is that me liking it? How is me mentioning good covers a way of saying I liked this cover lacking nuance and feeling?
It’s funny how he’s the only one in the room that knew what he was talking about. His audience has no idea who slipknot is. If he would have made fun of Post Malone or Drake it would have landed.
There have been bands/artists that I never enjoyed just because I didn't simply enjoy their sound (Imagine Dragons, Nickelback to name a couple) I don't recall either of those bands committing such musical atrocities such as ruining a wonderful System of a Down song, like Machine Gun Asshole did.
Just like Stevie T, said he was trying to look like Kurt Cobain. It's so true. There are so many better artists in their mom's basement. Then this generation can't sing or play music.
@@ZergleJerk if MGK switched to country, he'd be no different from any of the modern country stars lol. Wow I really loved that semi serious breakdown about why this cover was awful talking about Serj’s vocals, etc. MGK doesn’t know what he is doing half the time. I don’t have any ill-will towards the guy though.
MGK doesn't know his own singing voice good enough yet to cover songs like that and I say yet because he could learn to be a good singer if he actually tried and the electric guitar didn't have enough distortion to achieve the chop sound that Dan's guitar does when he plays palm muted riffs. I know MGK can't ever sing like Serj does but he could have done better than this. When you cover a song, you learn how to play the song first, practice it and then put your own twist on it so it is still respectful of the original and the artists who made it. What the hell made him want to cover a SOAD song in the first place?
Steve did a decent job of singing Aerials and he should have more confidence but he is no Serj. There are few vocalists that have the range and power of Serj Tankian and Machine Gun Kelly did so poorly at mimicking System that Steve sounds like a god in comparison. Steve is right System of the Down had operatic vocals and I honestly only ever heard one or two decent covers of System, both done by professional female singers and different compared to the original. It's funny seeing female singers trying to sing Aerials and struggling to hit the high notes or singing an octave lower so they can avoid them altogether.
@@inlikeflynn7238 The only male vocalist I can think of (off the top of my head) that could pull off Serj's vocal style would be Devin Townsend. Granted it would sound like Devin still, but he has a lot of similarities in the operatic style and has an insane low and high register. He's super theatrical too which is a huge part of Serj's sound. If you haven't heard his music, give er a listen. I suggest this one as a starter point. th-cam.com/video/nubJjB95VdY/w-d-xo.html
It doesn't surprise me though. Howard Stern's entire presence is just pandering and laziness. He's like Bill Maher or Elon Musk. They're loaded for life so why do anything more than just sit there and be smug?
Yeah, and also a prime example of how many of these stars/celebs are just pushed onto the masses strictly because of their yields of sell-ability and not because of their supposed talents. And I’m also aware that this is not news to anyone though it should always be repeated.
I am not even MGKs fan, but the amount of butthurt people here is insane lol. Metalheads going ham about Slipknot when they pretty much do the same for X amount of years cuz they cant figure out something new.
I actually didn't mind some of his rap, then he decided to go after Eminem and got murdered. Then he attacks Corey Taylor 😂 i agree he should just go to pop he can't play guitar for shit
Okay, I knew he had gone after Slipknot and Corey Taylor called him out on it, but I did NOT know that he attempted to cover Aerials. His vocal delivery had no passion...it was just "there"!! Who knew Aerials could be boring! He should leave the rock and metal genres to those who can and venture down that country road! Great video!! By the way, you inspired me when you learned the accordion...I just bought a practice chanter for learning bagpipes!!
Right!!? It takes talent to make a System of a Down song sound boring!! Haha! Also, honoured that I inspired you to pick up the bagpipes! Don't think anyone has ever told me that before! 🤣
i am not really a metalhead BUT I COMPLETELY AGREE THAT YOU HAVE TO RESPECT SLIPKNOT, felt that to my very core steve, that is the exact energy i have as a fellow lover of music
Nah Slapnuts suck. They are basic entry level pop metal music. They are just cringe as well, the masks there cringy and edgy lyrics even for metals standards. Real Metal is stuff like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Opeth, Nightwish, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Megadeth, Exodus, Slayer, Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Draconian, Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, Immortal, Children Of Bodom, Death, Cannibal Corpse etc.
@@Cameron23949 That's your opinion.. Regardless of how you feel about them as musicians and performers you can't deny they have a unique sound along with longevity, popularity, and clout in the genre. Some of your picks I would personally find questionable when it comes to "real metal". But that's also my opinion. Interesting how you label Slippydoodles "pop metal" but not Nightwish...for example.
You underestimate your own singing, Stevie...Myself and other singers in the comments agree...You have a very dynamic, powerful voice! I mean...Moonlight Eternal is still on my jams playlist!
I 100% agree. Steve T sells himself short. He has some decent range, and a little training would be very competent. Many famous artists are good but not great singers.
I enjoyed his few seconds of singing the cover more than the entire cover from MGK. He's certainly a better singer than MGK. That cover would have sounded good if Stevie had been doing the singing. MGK could probably sing good but he needs to get vocal lessons and practice first. You can't just come out the gate with SOAD like that.
The Kurt Cobain "I don't care" look also doesn't work when you're wearing an outfit like that and loads of jewellery. Meanwhile kurt was wearing a tshirt and sweater.
Plus Kurt was stoned out of his mind most of the time to numb his uncomfortable feelings: "being cool" is not just the bonus, it's also the onus. MGK is not cool because he's a phony as a human being.
@@jay1334 Kurt was feeling so insecure playing the MTV Unplugged that on Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" he ran his acoustic guitar through a fuzz box pedal, allowing the guitar to sound electric as sort of a security net... just like when Lennon double-tracked his vocals on all of his records because he thought his voice was not good enough. MGK doesn't have to worry about talent so he can pretend to be "cool" 100% of his time.
@@redacted2275 Kurt Cobain is better than MGK and Corey Taylor combined. MGK and Corey thrive off fame and attention, as it fuels their egos. Kurt hated how big Nirvana got, as being at that level of fame went against everything he stood for, except he was aware of that (unlike most "celebrity" musicians at, above, or below his level). Which is why Nirvana would intentionally just not play Smells Like Teen Spirit at shows, or just completely butcher it on stage
@@jareddoran6605 I respectfully disagree sir. Corey Taylor may be one of the most talented vocalist/musician we’ve seen in quite awhile. Unlike MGK, Corey can visit other genres and thrive. Kurt was amazing, but my personal preference is Corey > Kurt. End of the day, can’t go wrong either way
Damn, Stevie actually hit those notes on the Serj impression spot on - that's damn impressive 👏 MGK managed to make Aerials dull and lifeless, which is also impressive, but in a much different way 😴👎

The point of a cover is to put a loved song into your own hands and put your own nuances into it - Not just take the song and dismember it like it's a character in Corpse Party.
i guess you love boring Aeriels...lmao
Covers are supposed to be good though, that is not, I like certain covers too, actually there are covers that I like better than the original but this was garbage.
I just compared it to Machiney McWeenie dismembering it like a character in Corpse Party
How is that me liking it? How is me mentioning good covers a way of saying I liked this cover lacking nuance and feeling?

If I could give you a million like I would. I don't understand why he is as famous as he is.
The funny thing is he's doing country now
There have been bands/artists that I never enjoyed just because I didn't simply enjoy their sound (Imagine Dragons, Nickelback to name a couple)
I don't recall either of those bands committing such musical atrocities such as ruining a wonderful System of a Down song, like Machine Gun Asshole did.
MGK is awful and the whole thing with Eminem started because he made a creepy comment towards Eminem's daughter.

Just like Stevie T, said he was trying to look like Kurt Cobain. It's so true. There are so many better artists in their mom's basement. Then this generation can't sing or play music.
This man is funny when he does the impression of MGK. And you're right, he needs to bug another genre. Like country music.
As an average Country Enjoyer,
No. Stop. Why would you do that to us? Have you not seen what we're dealing with already?
@@ZergleJerk if MGK switched to country, he'd be no different from any of the modern country stars lol. -words of wisdom
Wow I really loved that semi serious breakdown about why this cover was awful talking about Serj’s vocals, etc. MGK doesn’t know what he is doing half the time. I don’t have any ill-will towards the guy though.
He make fun of Slipknot for wearing mask, while world make fun of him for being himself
3:55 Brandon rogers is that you?!

Stevie: I can not impersonate him
Also Stevie: impersonates Serj perfectly
Literally
yes
I wish Steve had more Confidence in himself as a artist.
I suggest this one as a starter point. th-cam.com/video/nubJjB95VdY/w-d-xo.html

this. I also watched the halocene cover to remind myself that it CAN be covered, just not by this mess.
I lost my shit when Howard said he nailed it 😂
That's what people on TV shows do after musical performances. No matter how bad it is they're required to say something good.
Howard was kissing ass like he does to a lot of the people he interviews. The guy is a total creep.
It doesn't surprise me though. Howard Stern's entire presence is just pandering and laziness. He's like Bill Maher or Elon Musk. They're loaded for life so why do anything more than just sit there and be smug?
This cover is the definition of friends telling you you're good when you're actually not
In that case, they’re not really your friends lol
on the contrary dude, we call it Karaoke ;)
Howard was clearly trying to be nice lol. His normal reaction to something good is much much different than "that works".
they're not friends if the hear this and say your good
Yeah, and also a prime example of how many of these stars/celebs are just pushed onto the masses strictly because of their yields of sell-ability and not because of their supposed talents. And I’m also aware that this is not news to anyone though it should always be repeated.

I enjoyed his few seconds of singing the cover more than the entire cover from MGK. He's certainly a better singer than MGK. That cover would have sounded good if Stevie had been doing the singing.
