    There have been a lot of comments regarding the final clip with 2 lanes approaching the mini roundabout. I'm just going to grab a camera and I'll put something together to explain what to do.
    Thanks for watching and commenting.

    This video really resonated with me. I recognise a lot of these behaviours in my own driving, particularly the speeding up or changing direction of travel to 'punish' those who I perceive as having wronged me. This is probably the most egregious trait that I'm eradicating from my diving as it's monumentally selfish, unnecessary and potentially dangerous. Also, it must be unsettling for those that are on the other end of it who are driving in a perfectly reasonable manner or making minor errors at worst, then suddenly they've got a windscreen full of car and an ear full of horn and aggression. I started out watching dash cam vids for entertainment but ended up getting really shaken as I recognised a lot of the bad behaviours in my own driving, I realised I needed to do something about it straight away. This channel has become an invaluable source of education, reflection and inspiration to analyse everything I do on the road and try and correct my mistakes. Thanks Ashley! :-)

There should be bad driving police where they only drive around and look for stupid infractions that people do that have no excuse doing it other than laziness an self entitledness. this is the only thing in the world where people just dont get better doing whatever it is with time. Hi Ashley, some interesting thoughtful clips there. The mini roundabout clips are always contentious, who entered the roundabout first etc etc. One worrying trend which I see everyday on the roads, especially in our ever busy cities is the one of the car exiting the layby, who pulled across one lane even though the other wasn't clear, thereby blocking the road. I agree your dashcam driver didn't help as they didn't slow down, entirely too quick for the situation............but I think this is a very dangerous practice which I see happening more and more, and can only one day lead to horrific accidents happening, especially if done on a high speed ie National Speed Limit two way road.

    The number of people that think these are called straight-across-abouts is mind blowing. I get it with some really small mini roundabouts, especially with larger vehicles, but that didn't seem to look like an issue for that driver to go around

    In a similar way to watching enlightening road rage videos, it is surprising how over exaggerated or excessively fast manoeuvres (I once thought probably looked good when I was a younger driver), in reality actually look very silly when viewed as a casual observer or third party.
    When a vehicle is driven with care, courtesy within the applicable confines of the law; this looks far better.
    Perhaps a lesson we all need to remember to consider during difficult times; simplified as an exercise in ones self control?
    Your body language when driving and of course the rhythm of your voice during narration Ashley is one of relaxed, calm and mindful control, which I admire and a lot of the time find difficult to emulate consistently when traveling from A to B.

    There is a mini roundabout near my house, and the amount of accidents I've had from people who are doing 40-50mph and choose to drive over it is unreal. And half the time those people choose to beep me or give me another form of aggressive gesture. It's got to the point where I just wait til is completely clear as 90-95% of road users use it as a straight away, even though there could be more then enough time for me to emerge if they actually follow the highway code.

    Ashley is spot on here. Here's the Hightway Code on this: "All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so."
    Urban myth used to be that you could go over it if it was flat. That is NOT what is stated in the current Code. Basically you need to go round it as much as you can reasonably (some mini roundabouts are a bit too small or badly positioned to allow you to sensibly avoid the white blob entirely even in a car, but that is the exception).

    My understanding is that you can drive over a mini roundabout if you are in a larger vehicle that would have troble taking it correctly but surely you only have to give way to traffic from the right if it is already on the roundabout, I often see people sit at all the entries not sure who should go first because they have all stopped. Mini r/bouts are a bit tricky to do correctly because, also, they are so small that one cannot always do all the correct signalling in time.

    I love how lots of these people don't even slow to approach miniroundabouts, or anywhere for that matter. See an obstruction or even POTENTIAL hazard up ahead? Slow down, anticipate. It's not rocket science.
    Such single-minded approaches, the road is for everyone. You're equally looking out for others on the road as much as yourself.
    Like you said, this isn't to shame the people uploading, but to make others aware of the incorrect mindset to have.

    Mini-roundabouts. Approach these in the same way as normal roundabouts. All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. Remember, there is less space to manoeuvre and less time to signal. Avoid making U-turns at mini-roundabouts. Beware of others doing this.

    Fantastic video. Some people fail to see the errors in their own driving, which in itself is very dangerous.
    In my opinion, clips 1,2 and 3 could all have been avoided by just using a bit of engine braking.
    Having to jam on the brakes normally means you came in a bit hot, or hadn't spotted a hazard early enough.

  • @John01GM40
    @John01GM40 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I disagree with your assessment of the final clip.
    The approach to the mini rbout is 2 lanes, with the right lane dedicated to RH turn. However, there are not 2 clear lanes on the r'about. Yes one can argue there are 2 car widths available, but only if both cars do indeed drive "round" - ie those going straight on do not go straight. Of course on a "proper" roundabout that might be more likely to happen naturally, but even then I would suggest a majority (?) of users on a 4 point roundabout will take as straight a line as possible if going direct ahead? Therefore anyone going right has lost road space and must take it from somewhere - ie straddle the painted the section.
    For 2 cars to be simultaneously on this r'bout, one them must (at least partly) straddle the painted roundel, otherwise it becomes a single file junction?
    I agree cammer drove well over the r'about paint, and was in the wholly wrong position in terms of the H code telling you not to do so, but even if he had circumnavigated the paint entirely on the left of it, the red car was still pulling out across his track by the time he would have got to the 1 or 2 o'clock position and thus be T boning the red car.
    I too would have beeped on that last clip. The previous ones however I agree with your assessment, nothing wrong expect cammer's own road rage.

  • @Smelter57
    @Smelter57 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    On the last clip, There are two lanes feeding into the roundabout, but it is not marked up to take two lanes round it. The inside lane goes straight across, forcing the outside lane to cut across. Granted he should have had a little more patience, and approached with more caution.

    Clip 2 is something I experience nearly everyday (albeit on a road with slower moving traffic). I have to creep out of an entrance/exit and very few anticipate and read the situation, rather just plough on through.

  • @cfbm125
    @cfbm125 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    painted mini roundabouts are essentially designed to be driven over, all vehicles must however pass around the centre axis of the central markings unless they are too large to do so, they are therefore primarily designed to control priority/traffic flow, as long as a vehicle is (unless too large to do so) overall left of centre they are obeying the regulation/law, all other general roundabout rules still apply.

    Years ago, I attended a talk from a Bedfordshire traffic police constable. His top tip was to drive defensively i.e. always assume that other road users will make mistakes. If you can drive with that thought in mind, your journey will be much calmer and safer. The mini roundabout is a classic example.

      Yep assume everyone els can't drive and assume they are going to do something or do it incorrectly (just passed or scared of driving/can't judge distances or has a black box fitted so can't drive normally)
      the only time I drive offensively is when there are parked cars on one side of a wide 2 lane road and the car coming from the other direction thinks they are driving a tank or try to force right of way (by taking up both lanes or completely on the wrong side of the road) just keep left no problems (if you don't I will drive at you to force you to keep left)
      about a week ago said person lost her wing mirror because she tried to force the other car to stop by going head on onto the other side of the road, once she told me she swung wide I stopped talking to her because she sure would not like what I was thinking of going to say to her (hopefully the other car wing mirror was fine) but I really wish I had so she knows what she did wrong

    The mini roundabout *last clip.
    How do you correctly use it if you're going right as was the cam vehicle?
    The road markings show two lanes yet at the roundabout there is clearly only one lane which forces vehicles to do exactly what the cam car did.

    In the last clip of the mini roundabout where cammer is turning right, in fairness to him, if he had gone around the roundabout and not across it, he'd have possibly hit cars on his left as although there is 2 lanes to the roundabout, there's not 2 lanes around it, just enough room for one and the left lane looks like it takes it all. Am I seeing it wrong?
