Elizabeth Zharoff of the Charismatic Voice channel always does detailed analyses of performances, as she has with this one. I've subscribed to her channel. Definitely recommend. She doesn't just restrict to opera.
Diana Damrau is a genius singing the "queen of the night". If you compare Diana with other artists singing the same role, you might understand my opinion.
Try and find the longer version of this aria. It only adds about 5-10seconds at the end. There, you'll see the back curtains closing together on the Queen, but just before they do...she spins around and stares fiercely and her daughter and the audience!! It is a genius designed ending!
You are good. I heard the special sound were violin and voice becomes one, but a wasn't able to to express what I heard. But of course, its an incredible superposition of two in essence different sound. Well heard and expressed. And yes, in fact the hight of the note is created in the throat by the vocal cords, but the sound, the color of the sound is given by the cavities in the head and behind the face skin.So you could say her face is like what you see of the body of the violin. Definitely an important part of the instrument.
We often make fun of Bavaria. We also make fun of the state Saarland. It‘s our Alabama. In reality, everybody makes fun of the others. Some more or less funny jokes are: Bavarians are always drunk, Saarländer like their relatives a little bit too much, Schleswig-Holsteiner like to „cuddle“ their sheep, people from Bremen eat so much fish they now got Fischköppe (fishheads), Niedersachsen stinks because of all the slurry , Brandenburg is the deadzone around Berlin and nobody likes Berlin.
She's not just telling her to kill her enemy...she's telling her to kill her enemy that also happens to be the girl's father. So, your mother ordering you to kill your father. And then laying a curse on her. Meanie.
Seriously? American here but lived in Germany for around 25 years, and I understand just about every single word! Damrau's diction is unbelievably good.
maybe because the German used back then is quite antiquated by now. many of the words used plus their word order is anachronistic. however, if you knew the libretto you will most certainly recognise the words. Diana is very precise and her singing crystal clear

She's by far my favorite "Night Queen" EVER, the singing, and beautiful acting.
One of the most epic performances of this song! Thanks for checking it out! :)

Diana Damrau is such a nice and friendly person in real life and very down to earth. Its hard to believe its her doing this part 😅 - Opera rocks 🤘

Every opera singer sings without microphone.

one of the most difficult arias - she has to hit a high F.
In opera they sing without 🎤...🤣
Speaking of Sunset Boulevard - didn't Gloria Swanson (the actress who played Norma Desmond) have something to do with opera?
Human voice it's a beautiful instrument. Please watch the video: classical female/male voices; there are ALL the vocal range!!

Opera singers do not use microphones.

My problem with operas: Even as a German, I allmost don´t understand any word she sings...

Just read once the german lyrics before listen to this song. And then listen to it again. I swear you will understand almost everything then.

I like your reaction, but why is your home so messy?
12 dogs, half are young.
May it's possible to clean up your house?
I would be ashamed to show this mess in a YT vid.

Buckle your seatbelt for tomorrow video. You are in for a shock.
Wait for their garden...🤣🤣 You always must consider they have 12 dogs...👍🤘
