I read the Book, it made interesting Reading. Once all that information was published in a Book, it was announcing to the World that evidence existed appertaining to past and terrible crimes. It was only a matter of time before some Law enforcement organisation was going to come knocking because they now know it exists. According to Ed Moloney all the other Material has now been returned to him and destroyed.
What people say on an oral history tape is not evidence and could never be used as such in a court of law. When they agreed to speak nobody insisted that their memory and statement must be the truth, all the truth and only the truth. They did not have to make truthful or even sober declarations. Ed Moloney should have known this and instead of saying it was evidence, he could have said it pointed to a reality, but Gerry was right, this kind of information can never be seen as evidence. I have worked on oral histories and that is why I know this is the case
I agree though, that Ed Moloney wrote a very readable book based on the Dark’s tapes and those of David Ervine (which were not part of the Boston College tapes)
@@ATLmodK While I agree with what you say in principle, If you have dealt with such things where statements can be construed as evidence then you must also understand that such statements can then be used to compromise a person or persons and this is all an investigator needs to pursue the matter further and to dig deeper into it`s content to arrive somewhere near where they want to be. Once it`s said, it`s too late, it can be used to gain whatever evidence can be gleaned from it. There is an old saying, from little Acorns Mighty Oak Trees grow.
@@ATLmodK I thought that David Ervine did give an interview for those Tapes, in fact I`m sure he is on film actually stating so. I will have to read the book again, it`s worth a second read anyway.
@@stephensmith4480 you may be right I may have missed that. My understanding of the Boston College tapes was that they were all Republicans interviewed. I remember when it came out that Americans would not protect the confidentiality of those tapes that it was considered to be very scary for Republicans, and nothing was said about Unionists

If he was an said so he would be unable to answer anymore questions as he would be in prison. People need to think about things properly. Yeah he says he was tomorrow and thats him away to prison - of course he denies

Her children suffered when they lost their father to cancer and her mother shortly after. She was killed by terrorists, ordered by Adams.
Potentially, the Boston tapes could have been a valuable resource for future historians. However, like a lot of potential good in Ireland, the project was scuppered

Boston College might have it. I doubt that it is widely known since all the tapes were supposed to be confidential.

Gerry Adams was their leader at that time. You should be comparing say Tony Blair being nicked rather than a simple soldier. Also not many soldiers were ever nicked for anything in the troubles let alone spent any time inside a prison unlike say around 1980 - 8 out of every 10 homes had someone in prison for a politically motivated action.
