Ah, thank you so much Paul. It’s testament to your teaching prowess that I now understand what I’m doing infinitely better than I did before I watched this 😆 Thank you mate!
@@AdrianJames28 Like Paul mentioned, Chris's passages are almost liquid like in their flow. How wonderful for all of us that Chris and Paul post so much wonderful content.
@@AdrianJames28 Absolutely, we are all so fortunate that these two Men/Artist have decided to use this medium to both connect, convey, entertain and teach us. Now I am looking forward to possible collaboration between these two.
*Question & additions* The idea of Learn That Lick is that I'm also doing the transcribing 'live' on camera to give in insight into my methods. Do you like this approach? Or do you rather just see me explain the lick? Let me know :) Also: I think I cut out the part where I talk about that the lick is mainly in C minor. Also 2: Where I said 'ghost note' I meant 'grace note'. Thanks for watching!
Hi Paul interesting software to work with. Yes it's a great idea to use it. Thank you. What's his name? Could you make a special study of this software?
That tone of Chris's on that clip was honestly so surreal! Does amazing justice to the blues in my humble opinion; I definitely know I'm taking that lick too haha! Great work here!
Love that Paul Davids is not just a great guitarist, he is as big of fan of the guitar players too! A true model of an accomplished and highly talented musician...
Love Paul's channel; always so informative and instructive, in that laid-back way he has. Absolutely love Chris Buck's playing too - the word 'liquid' sums it up perfectly; feel and phrasing in spades. Great video Paul.
Pretty fun! Chris is amazing, and he has something all of us strive towards, which is a very reckognizable style, and also tone. The "liquidy" style he employs really benefits from his smooth tone too, the soft quality of his high end, and how he goes from using a pick to his fingers often. You got the lick right, off course, as much as another person can emulate another's style, but I found myself missing the tone element of it to complete the picture. I know you weren't going for copying, but learning, but I think it's something to keep in mind when practicing too. And it can make the process that much more inspiring. Whatever gets us playing and practicing.
It’s really encouraging that you display the clock in the background. I am always frustrated that it can take quite a bit of time to learn a piece of music. I’ve realised that I’m not doing so bad really. I’m just impatient with myself!
It's really satisfying seeing a hint of fruatration in Paul when his fingers aren't quite adjusted to what he's learning yet. I at least have that all the damn time whem learning, but then all of a sudden it clicks and begins to sound like it's supposed to, and that's a great feeling!
Really cool to see big guitar channels like Paul using their large audience to highlight someone else's style of playing who might not be as well known. Chris is a truly unique and incredible guitar player! Thanks for this Paul!
As I was watching towards the end I thought, “wow, I just watched Paul get better”... then you said the same thing! Thank you for sharing the work you put in... it’s inspiring.
NEVER stop leaning, go on, good work Paul. Show the transcribing, show the work, or don't. They're all good shows and keep me trying new stuff, so for me-show what you feel is relevant or whatever. ( ghost note - I think that phrase has legs. Get a 'TM' on that friend :-D )
New to you, the human quality really grabbed me. Empathy is a great attraction without self-aggrandizement. I feel we could hang out if we were neighbors. Thank you for this. (Best on earbuds to hear those Les Paul tones with the effects box you highlighted. Two thumbs up. 🏆
💕 I've only played very basic rythym on acoustic guitar. I've played some rythym on electric as well, but only playing around. That said, I still enjoy watching your videos, very much ! And love your different terminology for certain areas of the piece. For some reason, some "licks" sound a bit non symmetrical to me. I realize they really don't have to be symmetrical, but for me it makes things sound so much smoother & a bit less chaotic. I've seen things this way since I was a young girl. 😂🤷🏻♀️ Thanks for a great video !! You play beautifully !! 👍🏼💕
Paul, I like the format of you doing the tabs as you go. On your website or in the description can you talk more about your gear? I'd like to know if you have made any mods to your Les Paul to the bridge and tailpiece or tuners, pups, pots or since you have the guitar you love it came that way? What software are you using to do the tabs?
I'm really not into learning other people's songs but they are certain things that they do within a song that I will concentrate and learn that's how I add to my repertoire lol.
Hi Paul nice as usual, I remember myself working out solo from CDs or tapes many years ago... may I ask you which software are you using to write down the tab?
Paul, if you see this, would you mind my asking how old you are? I'm 38 and suspect you're about my age. Your website doesn't say and I am always curious about these things. You are a first-rate guitar player, among the best on YT, no doubt, and you always make great content. I've been subbed a good while now and have never heard your age discussed. It doesn't matter especially I suppose, I just want to know for my own sake really.
Could anyone tell me what program was used to transcribe this lick? I love the way you can put in the tab and have it played back, seems really useful for transcribing. Thanks (:
Wait wait... Hold on Paul, when did you become one of the biggest guitar TH-camrs out there... Bigger than Justin guitar, Chappers, music is win... Damn Congrats man... Really impressive. Keep up the good work
Matt loves pizza cuz he is amazing! Also he covers a lot of ground; acoustic, finger picking, learn lick, learn songs, music theory and the list goes on. Something for everyone.
Hey Paul! Could you tell me the names of all the different software you use for your musical endeavors? Most importantly the tabulature and recording? Love the videos!
Love watching someone with your obvious fretboard prowess struggling to get it right. Thus proving the first law of guitar playing: it's always easier to create your own crazy-ass licks than to decipher someone elses..
Ah, thank you so much Paul. It’s testament to your teaching prowess that I now understand what I’m doing infinitely better than I did before I watched this 😆 Thank you mate!

It is nice but i may enjoy more to understand why the lick sounds good in its context. Sweet video by the way!
Much more interesting see how you do it. Great job.
A lick is played over a chord or chord changes. Knowing the chord or chords would help put the lick in perspective. Just a thought.
I really enjoy the way you present this exercise and I think the live transcribing is absolutely fine. Thanks for posting.

I've seen Buck & Evans live, they were great - Chris played an epic face-melter in pretty much every song and Sally-Anne is a brilliant singer.

The first couple of seconds of that lick are pure magic
Not gonna lie, it was very encouraging to see YOU mess up a few times!
All the best!

Love Chris sound. And your style adds a lot of magic as well! Really good video!

Gotta say Paul, this is my favorite series of yours. Cheers! 🍺
I saw Chris Buck at Guitar Summit and he was just amazing. Cool video!
Excellent!
I forgot how good a player Paul is, up to speed so fast with similar nuance to Chris' playing - love to see it
I find it delightful that many of the TH-camrs I'm subscribed to are fans of each other.
Chris Buck is such an amazing guitarist and also seems to be a very nice guy. Have a few friends who have met him and say he is great!

That final arpeggio!! Wow...was it diminished?
30 seconds of lick, 30 minutes to break it down right, 30 days to play it just like him and 30 years to make your own.

Guitar Pro
