That's what happened in 1968, when LBJ decided not to run for re-election and they had a bloody, miserable primary, which ultimately lead to Nixon winning the presidency. We desperately, need the incumbency advantage and no-contest key advantage to win.

Question about polling validity: Does the polling attempt to understand how many "Undecided" voters will decide to Not Vote under the two Scenarios of (1) Biden running, and were (2) Harris to be the candidate? It is the undecides that will play a large role in this election.
