So many people are saying there was a poor translation or mistake in this video.
First, about the phrase. “Jessica, I can feel the soul of the black people from your voice, you will gonna be a star.”
In 2009, Jessica Ho said this at an interview with KOREA media named "Newsen".

"원래 제 어렸을 때 꿈은 패션 디자이너였어요. 그런데 중학교 음악수업 때 한 흑인음악선생님과 만남이 제 인생을 바꿔 놨어요. 그때 그 선생님이 노래를 불러보라고 해서 그냥 불렀는데 그 흑인선생님이 '네 목소리에는 흑인들의 소울(영혼)이 느껴진다'고 칭찬하면서 제가 노래를 너무 잘 한데요. 그걸로 자신감이 생겨서 그때부터 가수가 하고 싶었어요."
TRANSLATION (1) :
"Originally, when I was a kid, my dream was to be a fashion designer. But when I was in middle school music class, I met a black music teacher that changed my life. At that time, the teacher asked me to sing, so I just sang, but the black teacher said, "I can feel the black people's soul from your voice.". I sing very well. It gave me confidence, and from then on I wanted to become a singer."

Jessica H.O. said this in a recent interview with Newsen, and recalled, "I think the teacher was really surprised because Asians have such a voice. I still vividly remember how surprised the black teacher at the time was hearing my voice." Jessica H.O. became interested in music after that incident and soon fell in love with it. This soon led to an opportunity, which led to a connection with a Korean agency and becoming a singer in Korea.
This phrase is a well-known thing in Korea.
"Jessica, I can feel the soul of the black people from your voice, you will gonna be a star.”
"네 목소리에 흑인의 소울": means "black people's soul in your voice", not "soulful voice"
So many people are saying that we translated mistakenly. No, it's not.
Jessi said this by herself.
But we made a mistake in another part.

It's what usually makes people say that word, it's not an excuse though but it happens a lot to others who grew up with them. I've been following her since the Lucky J days, she was my favorite one of those three members even tough I liked them all, I could tell that she was really a hidden gem and I wished day by day that more people would recognize her and her group. I played their songs for other kpop fans to show what they've missed out. I'm so glad that she's popular now after all these years, she deserves it because she's very talented and she seems to be a great person. I'm glad PSY picked her, both him and Jessi are two of my favorite artists, I've been following PSY since 2010.

She also goes into detail about everything on the K-Pop Deabak podcast. In that, she also said that she doesn't want sympathy for anything that happened to her because in her eyes, that's "how you become a woman." And she's not wrong: sometimes messed up things have to happen to you so you realize your worth.

I cried so much. She's seriously so strong and amazing. Her life is the definition of don't judge a book by its cover. She's very honest abt everything in her life. She admitted she had breast augmentation and joked around with it 😂 and she said multiple times as a musician, she had gone thru a lot. Change of image, change of attitude towards music, change of self acceptance in creating music... She has passed the moments of being an "idol" to be a musician with the freedom of being herself. She's free-spirited and don't give a damn on what ppl say abt her music but she's sensitive when ppl say she looks scary or intimidating as a person when she's not in reality. Jessi is a figure in South Korea that is changing the culture by being herself and I'm really proud of her.

i literally followed her since her first MAMA performance with "senuni" , i loved her performance back then also that song was so catchy. i started to getting knew about her, and then i love her ballad song called "excessive love" also her hiphop song called
"gucci" , i bought her only one physical album un2verse back then. she's my only favourite female solo rapper. then she realesed a single called "Down" , that song also soo nicee im happy but also sad bcz she gone hiatus after the realese. I stumbled upon her music years ago when I randomly clicked on Lucky J's mv while checking out other Korean artists on. TH-cam (I was a huge 2NE1 fan that time. Still is). Jessi's singing really blew my mind. I was wondering how is this woman not famous?! Later when released her new song Ssenunni I was kinda disappointed because it was totally different kind of music from Lucky J & her solo songs I used to love. It was good but I missed her singing (she was rapping a lot). I was over the moon when she started singing again like her songs Numb and Star. I'm SO happy for her. She deserves all the recognition she's getting now (and more!)
