The title reminds me of Kautilya's foreign policy. Your neighbor is your enemy, but their neighbor that's not a mutual neighbor, is your friend. Also the practice mentioned in the story is basically Buddhist sand gardens.
Every human creation has the seed of its own destruction; Bhuddism included. This alien was wiser than the monks. Is there a more deceptive pride than being proud of not being proud? To criticize my own, as a Christian, the fake humility of Churchianity is nauseating. Laodicea ascendant is the great apostasy.
Oh hey, fancy meeting you here. I remember listening to a lecture by Alan Watts, comparing what he knew of both Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. (Since he was an Anglican minister turned college professor specializing in the study of Asian religions, that’s no small degree of familiarity.) His assessment was that the true nature of spiritual attainment in each lay in the personal, experiential realization that one’s full of BS, that all possible motives are impure, and that each of us is “a complete and utter rascal”. Seems to me that the monk could use a little such “attainment”.
The fleeting and ephemeral still have value and meaning. Intentionality is how we sentients imbue the mundane with purpose.

The enemy of my enemy is my ally… not my friend!
In the end madnalas are as long-lived as bonsai mountains.
How may this poor monk help you?
nothing is eternal, even the gods fade away
For once,it's not a generic "humans are warriors" story.Yippee!
And this is why I play computer games and watch youtube.
Someone forgot to mention that it was performance art.
