@maczed31 I was more referring to the defensemen Karlsson (101 pts on an awful San Jose team), Ryan Graves, but other players include Reilly Smith, Noel Acciari, Matt Nieto, all did better with their respective teams until they came to Pittsburgh. Bunting, Hayes, and Glass were all well with the top 12 on their past teams, just had down years so that’s not a comparable situation.

I know he didn’t have a good year last year but he’s in the unplayable territory right now. You’re right about Kevin Hayes being not good on other teams. But to me, the last couple of years there seems to be a pattern where guys just don’t work out when they come to Pittsburgh. Is it because they aren’t any good any more? Maybe. Bad fits here? Possibly. But it’s the coach’s job to adjust his system to the players he has and I just don’t see him willing to do it. Sully is a great coach. He just might not be the right guy for this group anymore.
Grzelcyk is a third-pair guy at best. Graves, I don't know what his deal is. Karlsson, every time I watched him in the past, plays a version of "Matador" defense that has to be covered up by another stronger D man who understands the defensive side of the game. Then you have some minor-league-level guys shuttling in and out of the lineup. I understand that you can get value sometimes from a minor leaguer stepping up and stepping in, and the game clicks for them, but again, they need a steady partner to help shepherd them through things at times. Graves is still a lost lamb and hardly a steady Shepperd. A disconnect is going on, and it has been there for some time. The message is falling on deaf ears; the stars are aging out, but they still manage to be the highlight, and I admire them for that. Settle in fans for a long season. DK - I guess I can just look it up but since you’re on the inside most of the time maybe you’ll have a better answer than what I can find on the internet - but do NHL teams have any (or at all) cognitive training during the season ? like I know drills during practice & working on the powerplay(looks 200% better than last year’s) & on penalty kill (looks great) & 3on3, etc. are paramount . but how often do they use practice time for making the right decisions with or without the puck in a more detailed or should I say it - analytic approach while at practice or even actually off the ice . or do more teams do it more than others ? I think that’s the major problem with our favorite team … even one of the greatest players in hockey history (so far this year ) I’m thinking … “like why’d he do that ?!” - & of course most of the others (defenseman mostly) there’s so many tools at these guys’ disposal compared to the Mario Days - I’m thinking a more perspicacious training is in dire need for this team WHOLESALE there must be experts out there
I was here after Karlsson trade saying it was a bad move.... I was here saying the Bunting trade was a bad trade....I was here in off season saying how this roster is not good and won't be better than 20th best in the league at best. This roster was not constructed well....the roster is a bottom third team, not sure why we expect more. Sad that Crosby's last years will be spent out of playoffs and sucking.....and I look at Dubas....look at Washington....there were moves to make to make this team competitive.....Dubas took the road to 'rebuild'......Jordan had a famous quote...."there are no guarantees with rebuilds, the Cubs have been rebuilding for 100 years"....once Crosby retires this team will not compete....find a team that is top tier without a top tier player....you take advantage of every possible year with Sid, Washington did it, Penguins could have too.The Penguins are officially irrelevant.
Year after year after year after year , Sully gets a pass. Don't get me wrong. The eyes and stats don't lie. This defense is beyond terrible. I'd run 8 on the overall roster (not game lineup maybe 7) and you make a stupid mistake end the bench you go. Don't bother tieing your skates or holding a stick, you're done til the next guy Fs up. Hell, I'd run 5 forwards on the PP1. Torts is about the only coach I have seen that doesn't care about how much you make, you better play his way.
Enough with the excuses and the sugar coating. Sullivan has to go! You just said it yourself, he tells the players but they don't listen. He has lost the locker room. Lost it years ago
Mike Sullivan needs to go it’s that simple. No excuses no “ he has a bad roster” or anything else he has lost the locker room for years now, his teams can’t hold leads or defend because they try to play like a younger faster team. This roster has no reason to be this bad none at all. If they actually have balls and fire him and hire anyone out there that isn’t as stubborn this team will be good guaranteed maybe not great but deff good. It’s so painfully obviously coaching
It’s embarrassing at this point how you keep defending Sullivan. He has a hand in players brought in by Dubas. If every D man can’t play defense, and that’s what happening to experienced D men, then it’s on the coach
The thing is Sullivan preaches hockey that’s positional sound and using a stick, not taking the body or clearing the crease, among other things to get the puck out of the zone. That’s tough to do for a lot of D men. I think another defensive approach would be more beneficial
This team is done...look towards next yr..thier no way they make up all those lost points...trade Patterson before he gets any worst karlsson ..cant defend at all..an whats up Crosby ass...he's dont look good at all

I think that’s the major problem with our favorite team …
even one of the greatest players in hockey history (so far this year )
I’m thinking … “like why’d he do that ?!” - & of course most of the others (defenseman mostly)
there’s so many tools at these guys’ disposal compared to the Mario Days - I’m thinking a more perspicacious training is in dire need for this team WHOLESALE
there must be experts out there
I was here after Karlsson trade saying it was a bad move....
The Malkin and Crosby line were responsible for 2 of the three goals. So much for it not working. Fleury must retire a Pen
Same shit different day same bs from our pathetic outdated coach ,.,, enough already ....sully gotta go ....its just insanity at this point...
When is Wonderboy Dubas gonna catch some accountability His track record is 💩. He blew 🔥up FSG & they bought it.
Okay so get a defensive minded coach and blowup the defensive core. Why are we delaying the inevitable?
Sounds like the top priority was incorrect.
Enough with the excuses and the sugar coating. Sullivan has to go! You just said it yourself, he tells the players but they don't listen. He has lost the locker room. Lost it years ago
Don't fool yourself . Crosby runs that team . Just like Mario always did .
Disjointed!!!!!?
Didnt even watch bc i cant stand the Fleury circlejerk
What the hell does that even mean?
It's 'embarrassing' to express a view that might be different than yours? Do enlighten me about this, please. - Dejan
This team is done...look towards next yr..thier no way they make up all those lost points...trade Patterson before he gets any worst karlsson ..cant defend at all..an whats up Crosby ass...he's dont look good at all
