- In this video I show how I brought a rusty chipped axe head back from the dead. It's a classic pit & polish. It's a great way to start restoration work. Normally heads in this condition can you purchased fairly cheap so it's not much investment.
Sorry for the camera orientation. I've been filming on the instagram in the vertical so much I forgot until the middle to switch. I'll get it right next time.

Really enjoyed seeing this axe come to life! Nice video my friend and thanks for sharing your knowledge on axes . I’m looking forward to tinkering with my first build for myself. I know videos take time to create but keep ‘em coming! Great content!🪓🪓🪓🪓
Thanks. I am trying to figure out how to be more streamlined.
@@StumptownAxes your doing good! And you are knocking out some killer axes!
I second that!! This was awesome!!
My grandfather used to have a similar hatchet, with super thin handle that looked more like a thin flat board, compared nowdays handles. Great job restoring that old one! I have the feeling, tha humanity, will be forced to go back to hand tools and old way of living, to survive from now on. Whoever has the chance, and chooses otherwise, has to think that again....
Great job brother. Nice surprise with that Norlund stamp coming through. Good pace on this video, and great information (That’s vertical format was killing me, lol)
Dustin! Thanks for the honest feedback. I really do appreciate it. You were the first full video I watched mounting a axe on that jersey pattern you did. The vertical is a total disappointment but I am old school with “run what you brung” type. I promise I’ll get better. And seriously send any critiques you have in the future. Thanks again!
I’m late in the game to most of this stuff but you rule. Awesome stuff
Thanks for watching! 👍🏼
Great looking axe! Good job
Thanks man
Just wanted to say the videos are great, they have been a great resource!
Paul,
That's a nice job and good video tutorial. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video
Very nice! Great surprise finding it’s a Norlund : )
Yeah it was a great surprise. I didn’t even see it until I was testing the video before that shot.
Very nicely done. I don't know if you're aware but you can reuse the evaporist. I have a 5 gallon bucket that I have restored countless vices and tools in, and it still works perfectly fine.
Thanks for watching. I have used its several times. 👍🏼
Very nice!!!!!!!!!
Duuude amazing job! I love restoring axes too! It’s one of my hobbies. I’m new to being a TH-camr as well! Keep it up! Youll get it!
Like the finish better tho.
Nice job man. What brand/size belt grinder is that?
It’s a Multi-tool 2x36. I think it’s an Australian add on. Will will with about any regular grinder. I have hopes of a 2x72 grown up machine but I’ll have to sell more axes and t-shirts first.
I hear ya man. I’d like to have a 2x72 also. One day lol
Why do people wrap around the neck of axe head with leather or Paracord? Take out vibration or protect axe handle?
Protect handle and have a little cord with you if you need it.
What is the name of the belt sander.?
I think it’s called a multi-tool
Vinagar is cheaper than vap o rust..
I don’t like the smell of vinegar personally
He said classic pit an polish finish?
What makes pitting a classic ?
A lot of restorers use this method of polishing a pitted piece. A classic can be defined: “remarkably and instructively typical.”
So because classic has a definition or because you know the definition of classic, somehow that makes pitting on metal a classic?
Bit of a stretch don’t you think?
That’s a rhetorical question you don’t need to answer it
