I saw the Robin Guthrie Trio perform in a small Istanbul club last week: I am lucky a friend told me about it at the last minute! It was one of the most memorable shows I have ever seen. I was in the front and probably had the most idiotic grin on my face!
A total legend. How many hundreds of hours must I have drifted in a luxuriuos void listening to his music and the heavenly voice of Elizabeth Fraser. Some people learn a craft but very few master it to a level of perfection so high as his guitar and effects. Genius.
Am I the only one that keeps looping back here routinely to get recharged by this heavenly roar? Honestly, I feel like I tap into a cosmic power source for a few moments and I'm ready to face the world again. Truly grateful.
I listen to this song about 3 times a week. It gives me such goosebumps. And as cool as the studio version is, it doesn't have that magic that this version has. I was so inspired that I created a patch on my Boss GT1000 Core called "Monument" to try to replicate this sound, and am trying to learn the song as well.
@@tomstegeman4344 Very cool. There are few things in this world that are truly iconic and this version of this song is one of them. How appropriate Robin titled it, "Monument".
@fractaljack I sometimes wonder if other people get goosebumps from this song or if I was alone. I'm sure lots of people would listen to this and go "wow that sounds pretty good", but I wonder if it hits them as deeply as it hits me. I guess there are others out there, people like you. Every person has different relationships with music and tastes that determine what songs hit their soul the hardest. Often when people play me their favorite songs, and tell me it hits them in their soul on a level they can't describe, I don't really relate. But this song feels like Robin made it for me, that he made it to make me cry tears of fire while I burn on a funeral pyre and ascend into nothingness.
I love Robin and his works with Harold Budd, the chaman of ambien music. It is a superior spirit of the music, a deep soul that pierces my heart with his music every time I hear it. just great!!
Incredible sound of guitar. Robin has an unic style, I saw him several time in solo and many times with Liz and Simone. I met him personally during a concert of violet Indiana on boat in Paris, he's very humble, he is the anti rockstar. His sound is like a cathedral, a pure perfect ethereal beauty as the poem of Beaudelaire, "oú tout n'est que beauté, luxe, calme et volupté". He opens with his guitar the door of another universes.
Simply beautiful and exquisite sounds, Robin is the midas king, everything he plays is produced in gold, please Robin do not stop producing music, thank you for sharing the gift that God gave you.
Amen brother....I saw the Twins at a small college in Pennsylvania in the late 80s/early 90's and I knew then that it was a moment in Time I would carry with me forever. (And I am a metal-head guitar player) - Robin Guthrie is genius and also much more than that - he has the Soul of a True Artist and he remains uncompromized. A rare feat in Today's entertainment industry
Back to the sounds of Treasure, Akea Guinea, Echoes on a Shallow Bay, and Tiny Dynamine--when the low end of the drum (machine)s could be heard. Awesome!
What?No reel to reel on stage?Mind blown...again.Thanks...Saw the Ctwins in 1983-4 in LA at the Palace.Great to hear those guitar layers and who gives a sht if there are no vocals.Just swimming in sound
Robin was absolutely brilliant. A real pleasure to watch. He played Monument too. The man was a perfect gent and spent a long time mingling and chatting with us all (the audience) after the concert, signing CD's etc. A perfect evening.
When it comes to music there's no better or worse, it's just a different chorus and a different verse. I'm so thankfull for what Robin has helped to inspire by being inspired by music. He is a healer. For himself and for all who choose to listen.
HFS that was transcendental AF ..... took me 9 years to find this, but holy christ I'm balling right now as those sonic waves pass through my body. .. hints of sounds from the past
Saw RG in D.C. this year, opening for Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance). Robin created this growing and enveloping wall of sound that filled every pore of the small venue we were in. It was nearly overwhelming to the senses and a complete experience, needing no voice added in. Really amazing stuff.
I truly hope, that with time such things as this beautiful peace of music will become heaven for more people :) However seems like this is mission impossible :(

holy shit. Robin is still the master at atmospheric guit sounds!!
Yes, indeed, that's what it is. Holy shit 🥰
He will always be
The electric guitar of God
Yet all he can seem to do with it is noodle.
@ but so fucking beautifully....
Indeed! I still miss his work with Elizabeth Fraser, the voice of God.
I've always loved Robin Guthrie's playing. The Cocteau twins always sounded like angels making music, very ethereal and atmospheric. This is great!
I think his ambient works are utterly amazing.

Just another day at the office for Robin Guthrie who continues to blow people's minds with his beautiful and simple sonic nirvana.
Greatest atmospheric harmonic guitarist of all time.
Love his guitar sounds very much
So much better than the studio version on CD ... outstanding 🤩 I love it 🥰

I think this is the best song I've ever heard.
Gemma Quevedo Agreed. If I had to listen to one single song till the last day of my life this would be it.
Ditto.

Ladies and gentlemen...the wonderfully, amazing Robin Guthrie...you have still got it my friend, all the best!
nothing beats this
How incredible would it be to be in that room? There is no way I would be able to keep the tears from flowing down my face.
It was incredible indeed! I saw him in Istanbul a while back in a tiniscule venue. I think I had an idiotic grin on my face the whole time!

One of the greatest living composers!
And every guitarist is shouting at the cameraman/woman to stop filming the drummer and point it at the pedals!
I'm pretty sure it's just a line 6 pod xt live
Yes!!! The pedal board pleas
@@arricat5e311 I'm pretty sure it is not, Robin Guthrie has had a pretty intricate sound setup since the Cocteau days.
MY THOUGHT EXACTLY
Ugh yeah I know- hate admit it, but yeah.
Robin "The Dreamweaver" Guthrie
Reminds me of being 17 in the early 80's and falling head over heels in love...
C'est trop, trop bon comme son. J'adore et je m'évade. ;)
Beautiful!
Majestic guitar and great spacious sound

That's it! But I could hear her voice and found myself waiting for it.
It is a customized Levinson body (a blue Jazzmaster shaped one) with a Chandler maple neck.
Para mi gusto, muy bueno, me anima a continuar el día y con la vida

Great! Reminds me on Slowdive.
I can hear that, but Robin originated this sound, starting in the early 80's.
That's some insane reverb.

The more I hear the music of Robin Guthrie, the more I assure HE was the soul of the Cocteau Twins.
