OK gentlemen. Yall got me rabbit holing Dutch podcasts. I'm at around 33 minutes in, post Dick Murdoch (I went to two of his bars, 1 in Colorado as a kid, traveling with dad and once at 30 yrs old or so in Amarillo. Anyway, the "bigger draw" Hogan or Austin question at around 33 minutes is difficult. We gotta define "bigger draw". Jerry Jarrett once discussed these philosophical questions on wrestling classics. If there's gonna be a legit answer, we gotta define the term "draw".
Turnbuckles are used on telephone poles, if you have above ground poles that have a support cable into the ground it usually is covered in yellow plastic.
I worked with Murdochs son and a restaurant in Dallas. I would sit there while he told me stories about his dad and how he grew up around all the wrestlers from the 80s. He worked in the bar and had the exact same personality that Dutch described his dad having…..
Brandon Murdock was Dick Murdocks son….. he was a very large guy, and was very athletic. He said there was a lot of pressure on him as a kid to follow his dad’s footsteps, but he just didn’t want to pressure.
WWE’s rings are rope. Worked many tryout matches for them, their ropes literally throw you and the adjustment is major when coming from the Indies and having been used to the cable style. Cable is usually covered in a thin layer of pvc and covered in tape.
Paul London is a riot, VERY funny and a smart guy. I remember for so long that everyone was dismissing him as a guy who was bitter he never made it but now so many of his tales are turning out to be correct. Have to say that James was on the money IMO RE Hogan vs Austin. Stone Cold was the number 1 merchandise seller and TV ratings draw and he burned just as brightly as Hogan at his peak but his time on top was very brief. In 1998-99, the guy was omnipresent but he never crossed over into the mainstream the way the Hulkster did. To be honest, I think he prefers it that way too. Now, the Rock on the other hand...
Regarding who was more over, Hogan or Austin, I agree more to what Dutch says. Because the Attitude Era was huge and and much closer to us now than the Golden Era is. And Stone Cold was the Face of the Company together withe the Rock. Hogan is still a name you know, but Stone Cold was more over, in the end. And if I'm not mistaken then Stone Colds merch still sells very well, regardless the fact that he had retired many years ago.
The reservation Dutch wrestled at was Cherokee NC. It’s in Maggie Valley North Carolina not far from Gatlinberg TN. Sargent Slaughter and his family camped beside me and my parents many, many, many years ago. Cherokee is beautiful and people come from everywhere for the trout fishing. It’s got a fairly big casino too. The same owners of that one just put in the worlds only Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Bristol VA. There’s been Hard Rock Hotels everywhere and a few Hard Rock Casinos . I’m not sure but the local news keep saying that.
@@timmwalk4598 it’s the craziest sh-t I’ve ever heard. That casino’s earnings from April 2023 -October 2023 paid out every adult tribal member close to 9 thousand people each. On average every adult Cherokee tribal member makes about 19 thousand dollars a year . The casino has to put 65% of earnings back into the reservation. If not for the casino what the hell would people live on? They say that it’s pulled every tribal member out of the poverty level. Most of the tribe members have jobs besides the casino payouts. John White feather shot an elk and they blamed that on the casino. WTF? 😂 Also a team of real genius scientists and biologists found bones that they thought were elk, moose and caribou. Then they brought a bunch of the bastards into Cherokee to turn it back the way it was. Problem was there never were any elk or moose 🫎 there till that crew turned them out. They’ve almost took over the whole damned reservation. 😂
It's not often the young Dutch Oven is wrong BUT he is on the Hul Kogan vs Austin debate. Like old James The Spring Breaker said, Hul Kogan is definitely more universally recognised.
Listening to Cornette, I learned that if there's one corner by the turnbuckles that have a thicker part, those are real ropes. If the corners are even all the way around, those are cables. I thought wwe still used ropes.
@@Nicholaus13 I think they switched over late in the 90s. The real ropes had a lot more give, when Undertaker did the rope walk he would sink all the way to the middle rope.
I love the show, but Dutch drives me crazy at least 2x per episode. I have a good instinct for being able to tell when people are lying, and Dutch is REALLY BAD at lying. Then he says they dont tell people how theyre being paid for the videogames, which is clearly nonsense. James is probably hungover, but thats just a guess. He is in Greece, after all.
@PierFlies yes in some aspects his memory is typical of an older person, but I have noticed when it comes to what's really important to him, money, his memory of events can be sharp enough.
Well it is rude to ask how much people are making/made and it's disrespectful to reveal how much you're making/made unless there is good reason. Of which, in this particular scenario there's no good reason.
i dont understand the appeal of CM punk at all. never cared for his character as a heel or as a babyface and his promos put me to sleep. When he says he is the best in the world it just feels so forced. he's no bret Hart. i also hear about how great he is in the ring but eh... cant say ive been too impressed. maybe i just haven't seen his best matches.
He's just good at getting attention from what his fans this is unfiltered controversial FTW attitude. He's talented obviously amd he knows and loves the business but not the best in the world.

@user-qc8cd3mv5i Well, you're not wrong. Sometimes people will ask questions under $10 and Rene Dupree will say it's not worth the effort to answer questions for $X. Dutch, you were one of my favorites back in Mid-South Wrestling. You basically introduced me to wrestling.
James looks like he is on spring break in 2009
In the Florida Keys, lol.
Why 09?
21:00 ~ that move is in the 90s n64 games. DING! dudley boys did the wazzup headbutt.

Dutch needs to make a cool t-shirt to rival the cornette face shirt. Maybe a mustache silhouette or something
He has a "Respect The 'stache" shirt.
He kinda already does. It just has a slogan on it
