Excellent tutorial. I was able to find the answer to my questions immediately because you got straight to the point. Well done, I appreciate your focus.
Also thanks for breaking up the different segments up with time stamps. really helped find what I was looking for.

Cheers, glad you got something out of it!
I tend to avoid tutorials that don't have enough focus and are geared around gaining watch time instead of actually *teaching*, so that influences how I create my own tutorials.

can you add more colour layer for highlights or shadow?

    • @LucasSaturn
      @LucasSaturn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You only have the overlay, line art, colour art and underlay art layers. No more can be added. That being said, I know *I* have put other things on overlay and underlay and comped them in the node view later (I don't think that's recommended for organisation but it works!)

still trying to find the practicality of these layers

Art layers are incredibly useful, and there's a reason almost everyone uses them! I showcase a few of the benefits in this video: th-cam.com/video/VbzauZ8N_lI/w-d-xo.html

I learnt Toon Boom in university and we were NEVER taught about this, like at all, zero.
I still don't know how to clean up OR colour animations in any way
I feel like I've wasted my time and money
    I feel so stupid

From what I hear from other university students (moreso on the video production side than animation side), university is best for getting you creating different kinds of work, but doesn't exactly focus on teaching the software to the fullest extent. It doesn't mean you've wasted your money or time, but it means that you still have learning to do! University should not be the end of your learning!

@@LucasSaturn We were meant to finish our degree with a showreel and I finished with literally nothing as nobody ever wanted me to work on their projects due to me not knowing the aforementioned skills :/
I probably should have mentioned that this was due to the University enrolling me in several incorrect courses and refusing to let me enroll in the ones required for my degree when I figured out the mistake, thus I never got to do them.
I've been trying to learn since then (I graduated in 2018) but I constantly need to ask questions and I don't even know how to *word* the queries to find the answers in the first place so I have had very little luck.
I watch tutorials and wind up getting so overwhelmed, confused and upset that I get migraines and have to stop - rinse and repeat this for the last five years.
I've been trying to find someone to help tutor me (or at least to answer my billions of questions/explain things to me) but they don't seem to exist unfortunately.

@@tessfabled4115 Sounds like a tricky situation. I would definitely consider joining animation groups, such as the Onion Skin Discord or the official Toon Boom Discord, people are more than willing to help. Toon Boom offer not only a free learning resource that goes through making a project, but also have paid courses that are worth a consider. Hopefully you can figure out what works best for you.

Good explanation but it is too fast for beginner

I would recommend using the supplemental written guide (linked in the description) if you are a beginner; the written guide can be used at your own pace!
