I’m never forgiving y’all for letting journals flop, this is literally his best album he’s ever made and honestly I don’t see any of his future albums competing with this.
Facts. Purpose was great but still too commercial but the sound production was impeccable just like this album. Journals however feels a lot more intimate and special especially since Justin was the only who promoted this album and hasn’t performed it until just recently 8 years after its release.
Journals will always feel like that secret album he released and maybe the album not charting as high as it did is part of the appeal. We all know this album deserved #1 but maybe this set of songs right here were just meant for us and him alone and when someone new discovers it, it's truly a treasure. This album came out of Justin's deep feelings, pain and struggles. At the time I was there when all the songs were released each week online and they're all so good but now as I look back at these songs in my early 20s you can really feel it more. These songs are truly a memory of my teen years which he was a part of and I will never forget. Right now I've been on a Bieber binge and the memories are flooding back.

This EP literally made up the soundtrack to College. Every time I hear the intro of 'Heartbreaker', the funky groove of 'Rollercoaster', the piano chords of 'Change Me', the chorus of 'Hold Tight' or the nostalgic 'Swap It Out' I almost get into tears. If I close my eyes I think of walking through Boulder campus with my headphones in, fresh snow covering the ground and tree branches, studying for my exams, working out at the rec center, getting dressed to go to a party. Justin, thank you for making the songs that will bring me back to some of the greatest times of my life- leaving home for the first time and becoming a young adult
