📢 For most people, any Doodle is a good Doodle, and we can certainly agree with that sentiment! Maybe one of the more underrated Doodle breeds out there, though, is the Irish Doodle, which mixes the Poodle with the wonderful and lovable Irish Setter. These dogs are known as fun-loving, large, and possessing some of the most beautiful coats in the dog world, and luckily for us many of these traits are passed right onto it’s Doodle cousin!

🐶 Origins & Background
The Irish Setter is a dog renowned for its happy and attention-seeking nature. This is a dog that is intelligent, as it was used to hunt and retrieve animals in Ireland for generations. In more modern times, people have taken a liking to this breed because they are a medium-sized dog that is still sporty and playful, and fits into an active lifestyle really well.
🐶 Size
Doodles can vary wildly from small dogs all the way to some of the biggest, and the Irish Doodle fits neatly in the middle of that ratio. These dogs can be bred to be comfortable in a small apartment or condo, or can be bred to be nearly as big as a full-sized Irish Setter, too. A miniature Irish Doodle will only be between 15 and 22 inches tall, and will only weigh between 12 and 20 pounds as an adult too, meanwhile a standard Irish Doodle, which is the largest sized category you can find, will weigh between 40 and 70 pounds.
🐶 Grooming
When you mix two different breeds together, there is bound to be a bit of uncertainty regarding the end result. If you are looking into Doodles because you have a dog allergy, though, you are going to want to get a coat that most resembles the poodle, since this is the most hypoallergenic coat out there. These kinds of coats require a lot of upkeep, though, and you will have to take frequent trips to the groomers in order to prevent tangles or even matting.
🐶 Personality & Temperament
A lot of the appeal to this dog lies in two factors; their strong and infectious personality and their high intelligence. These dogs are passionate about their owners, and they are always going to be happy when they are around for, which for a lot of dog owners is a very important aspect to forming a bond. These dogs are also easy to train, and get a lot of their fulfillment through receiving attention or by feeling like they are useful to the family as a whole.

In terms of training your Irish Doodle, you are benefitting from having two parents with a lot of smarts. These dogs tend to learn tricks and commands quickly, and these dogs will actually enjoy the process too. Giving them positive reinforcement as well as being patient with them is key here, since these dogs care deeply about your feelings and mood. If you are upset, they can feel it and will be far less likely to learn something from the process than if you are happy and calm.

Besides exercise, you should also try and form a good relationship with your veterinarian too, as that will also help to extend their quality of life even further. The more you visit the vet, the better they will know your dog, and that will help them identify potential health scares before they have the chance to develop.

I have a IrishDoodle and she is the smartest dog I have ever owned. She learns tricks in minutes, basically came potty trained at 7-8 weeks, and her personality is so pleasant

my irish doodle pup is very affectionate and smart and full of energy. I also have a mature golden doodle. Her energy level definitely surpasses my golden doodle even when he was at her age. He absolutely loves her, and they bonded well. We lost his miniature poodle buddy a couple months prior and he stopped eating. It took about 4 months to grieve and then adjust to a new puppy.
