I went to Fothergill Island 40+ years ago. The only way there was by boat and the trip from mainland across Lake Kariba seemed to take forevvvvver but it was absolutely magical. There were rondavals (spelling?) huts for us to sleep in and a huge main open area for meals. Days were spent either trekking out on foot to watch the elephants and try to catch a glimpse of the “neighborhood Capes”, accompanied only by a single guide with a bolt action rifle… insane risks that none of us recognized at the time. Thankfully. Never forget the hippo chasing our small motor boat the second morning when a group of us went out on a water tour to see wildlife. Didn’t think the wildlife would mind it as much as that big fella did… Scary! Pretty spectacular experiences and memories for a girl from a small East Texas town who got to tag along on her father’s dream to see Africa. I’ve wondered how it fared throughout the years and was delighted to see this video pop up in my feed. Going to sleep with a smile on my face and hope to revisit the wonders of Fothergill Island again in my dreams.
