  • 1. Jesus, I my cross have taken,
    All to leave and follow Thee.
    Destitute, despised, forsaken,
    Thou from hence my all shalt be.
    Perish ev’ry fond ambition,
    All I’ve sought or hoped or known.
    Yet how rich is my condition!
    God and heav’n are still my own.
    2. Let the world despise and leave me,
    They have left my Savior too.
    Human hearts and looks deceive me;
    Thou art not, like them, untrue.
    Oh, while Thou dost smile upon me,
    God of wisdom, love and might,
    Foes may hate and friends disown me,
    Show Thy face and all is bright.
    3. Man may trouble and distress me,
    ’Twill but drive me to Thy breast.
    Life with trials hard may press me;
    Heav’n will bring me sweeter rest.
    Oh, ’tis not in grief to harm me
    While Thy love is left to me;
    Oh ’twere not in joy to charm me,
    Were that joy unmixed with Thee.
    4. Go, then, earthly fame and treasure,
    Come disaster, scorn and pain.
    In Thy service, pain is pleasure,
    With Thy favor, loss is gain.
    I have called Thee, “Abba Father,”
    I have stayed my heart on Thee.
    Storms may howl and clouds may gather;
    All must work for good to me.
    5. Soul, then know Thy full salvation;
    Rise o’er sin and fear and care.
    Joy to find in ev’ry station,
    Something still to do or bear.
    Think what Spirit dwells within thee,
    Think what Father’s smiles are thine,
    Think that Jesus died to win thee,
    Child of heav’n, canst thou repine.
    6. Haste thee on from grace to glory,
    Armed by faith and winged by prayer.
    Heav’ns eternal days before thee,
    God’s own hand shall guide thee there.
    Soon shall close thy earthly mission,
    Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days,
    Hope shall change to glad fruition,
    Faith to sight and prayer to praise.

    I love this version. It's simplicity and authenticity is so powerful. The sole piano allows the voices to be lifted up to our Lord without distraction.

    Such a song. Surely made by one who has so richly received Gods grace. God bless the writer and all who hear this hymn. So rich and theologically sound. I wish our congregation sung this. I may have to speak with my worship leader 😄✝️❤

    Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken (Jesús, he tomado mi cruz) Spanish translation - Traducción en español
    1. Jesús, he tomado mi cruz,
    para dejarlo todo y seguirte.
    Desamparado, despreciado, abandonado,
    A partir de ahora serás todo para mí.
    Perezca toda afectuosa ambición,
    Todo lo que he buscado o esperado o conocido.
    Y sin embargo, ¡cuán rica es mi condición!
    Dios y el cielo siguen siendo míos.
    2. Que el mundo me desprecie y me abandone,
    También han abandonado a mi Salvador.
    Los corazones y las miradas humanas me engañan;
    Tú no eres, como ellos, falso.
    Oh, mientras Tú me sonríes,
    Dios de sabiduría, amor y poder,
    los enemigos pueden odiarme y los amigos repudiarme,
    Muestra Tu rostro y todo brillará.
    3. El hombre puede perturbarme y angustiarme,
    pero todo esto solo me llevará a Tu pecho.
    La vida con duras pruebas puede presionarme;
    El cielo me traerá un descanso más dulce.
    Oh, no hay dolor que me dañe
    mientras me quede Tu amor;
    Oh, no hay alegría que me cautive,
    si esa alegría no estuviera mezclada contigo.
    4. Váyanse, pues, la fama y el tesoro terrenales,
    Venga el desastre, el desprecio y el dolor.
    A Tu servicio, el dolor es placer,
    Con Tu favor, la pérdida es ganancia.
    Te he llamado, "Abba Padre,"
    He puesto mi corazón en Ti.
    Las tormentas pueden rugir y las nubes pueden acumularse;
    Todo debe obrar para mi bien.
    5. Alma, conoce entonces Tu plena salvación;
    Levántate del pecado, del temor y de la preocupación.
    Alégrate en cada momento,
    aún queda algo por hacer o soportar,
    Piensa en el Espíritu que mora en ti,
    Piensa qué sonrisas del Padre son tuyas,
    Piensa que Jesús murió para ganarte,
    Hijo del cielo, ¿puedes quejarte?
    6. Apresúrate de la gracia a la gloria,
    Armado por la fe y sostenido por la oración.
    Los días eternos del cielo ante ti,
    La mano de Dios te guiará hasta allí.
    Pronto terminará tu misión terrenal,
    Pronto pasarán tus días de peregrino,
    La esperanza se transformará en gozosa realización,
    la fe en visión y la oración en alabanza.

    This is a great video. Pity that the lyrics sometimes is not correct. Would be great if it can be corrected so we can share the video to people to encourage them. Non-English speaking Christians are mostly unfamiliar with old hymns today. So we need the right lyrics. Thank you and be blessed

      Sorry to disappoint, but my name is the way it is because I have a deep appreciation for hymn, not out any expertise. While I was born in Lansing Michigan, I'm afraid I have no knowledge to assist you with. Good luck with your search.

      Agreed, never did like that. If you wouldn't do it in a regular song why do it in a hymn? I've always seen it as disrespectful to God who I'm singing my praises to
