SLOW LIVING IN A KENYAN COUNTRYSIDE/Not what I expected😭😭

In the heart of western Kenya lies a village; Syekumulo…… where the rhythm of life beats to the pulse of tradition and simplicity. Today’s typical start in my village is nestled in the heart of western Kenya.
The crisp air nips at my cheeks as I step outside. My first mission: fetching water from the borehole. The rhythmic clack of the bucket echoes in the stillness, each scoop a promise of cool refreshment later.
Back at the homestead, a splash of water on my face chases away the sleep.
Then, it's time to greet my four-legged friend-an indigenous cow. I tie her up, her calf nuzzling playfully nearby, and with practiced hands, draw out a frothy bounty of milk.
Hunger pangs lead me to the farm, where fields of emerald green whisper secrets in the breeze. I gather fresh fodder for the cow, her grateful moos a melody to my ears. On my way back, I can't resist plucking a few plump ears of maize, their golden kernels promising a smoky treat later.
The familiar glow of a three-stone fire welcomes me home. Soon, the air is filled with the intoxicating aroma of roasting maize, each bite bursting with earthy sweetness. Beside it, a pot of water simmers, destined to become a comforting bowl of maize porridge.
The fire crackles merrily as I whip up a hearty stew, spices dancing in the air like fireflies. My niece joins me under the shade of a towering tree, her nimble fingers transforming dough into perfect chapatis. Laughter mingles with the sizzle of the pan, painting the morning with sunshine and joy.
The next day finds me at the posho mill, the rhythmic hum of the grinder transforming maize into the soul of Kenyan cuisine-ugali flour. Balancing a basketful of flour and feed, I return home to a chorus of clucks and an impatient gobble from the turkey. As I scatter the feed, tiny eyes watch me intently, five adorable puppies tumbling out of their straw nest. Their mother, content and full, nuzzles my hand in silent thanks.
A refreshing shower washes away the day's dust, and I head to the orchard. My fingers brush against the velvety skin of a ripe pawpaw, its sweet nectar dripping down my chin as I slice the golden flesh of the pawpaw while the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery hues, and with a sigh of contentment, I know-there's nowhere I'd rather be than in my little corner of western Kenyan paradise.
This is just a snippet of my life here, a tapestry woven from simple moments, warm connections, and the vibrant pulse of nature. It's a life that nourishes the soul, one sunrise, one bowl of ugali, one juicy pawpaw at a time.
