I love your channel. Just last night I decided that I was going to check out portainer. And look at that, one of my favorite Linux youtubers just released a video on it 11 hours ago. Thanks for what you do.
I broke my linux VM again, but it was worth it, as I have been using portainer all wrong, came here just to figure out how to install it, and you showed me the right way. win!
Great intro. Would love a foolow up for intermediate level users. I just recently learned to use stacks instead of manually setting up volumes and containers, as that makes it easier to update containers without a change in configuration. Also, configuring the portainer environment so the listed container ports link to the actual FQDN instead of copy pasting IPs and Ports. Seems portainer is easy to learn and hard to master, as there are different approaches to handle setup and maintenance.
Thanks Jay, As always you have produced another great video tutorial. I've been following you for a while now and I really like the way you present your learning content. Thank you.

I think I've been waiting for years for docker content on your channel hehehe, I hope you touch on topics like swarm, backups, volumes and lots of portainer content.😊
I had success with docker and portainer on a lab instance of debian in the cloud but freshrss would not run. The fix for me was to re-enable ipv6 for the host because there are some nginx directives that listen on ip6 ports. BTW, the lab machine is on Racknerd and I routinely disable ipv6 in the grub boot line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="...". Probably a habit I should drop :) Racknered does not currently support IPv6.
I love your channel, but it's not best practice to add a user to the docker user group because you can, without sudo, mount the root directory as a volume and read /etc/shadow and passwd because the uuid of the root user matches the uuid of the host's root user, allowing a priv esc.
Do you have any recommendations for caching in Linux? I just switched from W10 and I have a lot of free ram plus many Intel Optane drives that I want to take advantage of. I cannot find many YT videos about this topic. Thanks!
Installed it on my oracle vps,but when i try it access in my system using my vps url and 9443 port ,i can't seem to access it,Getting Can't reach this page.
I install portainer latest version on ubuntu server 24.04 but at opening the console in portainer it gives an error how to fix that ? I have searched for the problem but did not find solution for the latest version please help . thanks . Error "Unable to retrieve image details" problem resolve with this version "portainer-ce:2.20.1"
Not Jay, but I've been running 34 Docker containers in an LXC for over a year via Portainer and haven't had any problems at all. I did hear some folks recommending a VM instead, but it seems to work just fine.
All these copy/paste complex commands starting with "sudo install..." are like a cryptic black box, where are these coming from and more importantly what do they do exactly .... blindly typing sudo commands from a web tutorial is bad practice

I think that's a good idea! I have topics on the list that are all over the place, but a focus on containers is a given at some point :)
@@LearnLinuxTV a portainer series like the proxmox series would be amazing 🤩
Thank you so much for the quality work. I have subscribed!

And, Jay, I highly recommend your content and your courses. Thank you for all of the amazing work you do.
Thank you.
Do you need Ubuntu server for this project? Or can you use regular Ubuntu desktop?

Thank you for the video very informative love it.
Question that I have, you installed on VM is there any reason you use VM vs LXC ? Thank you.

No link to "everything you should do on a new linux install" (4:00 in the video)
