Awesome! I was shopping around to buy a drywall lift. Now I'll save that $200. I'm 67 years old and recently built my 24x24 workshop 100% by myself. Next I'll be getting a ceiling... all by myself. LOL. Thanks for the video. SUBSCRIBED!
my dads friend and basically my uncle when i was little i watched hang 12 footers on a ceiling by himself with a t made out of 2x4s. i dont remember exsactly how he did it but i remember being very impressed at how fast he did it. and how fast he was putting those screws in. he was a Vietnam vet but he was such a good drywaller. everyone called him david guitar larson cause he was always playing and singing blues songs and was just a great guy. RIP dave larson
Remodeling our 1989 5th wheel skamper kitchen had horrible water damage so I had to replace all the studs partial of the flooring and now working on the ceiling only paid 2,000 for my camper so I think I gotta pretty good deal 🤝🏽 just a lot of work by myself thanks for helping
Love the video! If I might suggest show a picture of the pieces all together first then start with the induvial parts breakdown. It would give a better understanding for the first time through.
genius, thanks! i only did ceiling drywall once, with an old Italian guy with a hernia. he was "teaching" me. he would lift and I would try to brace the center with a single 2x4, then we would both scream at each other until it was sort of tacked on. this method looks much more sensible haha
Thank You So Much For Making This Great Video! I am remodeling most of the main floor in my house mostly by myself. I am a 58 year old woman and do not have the strength I once had (though I hate like h&!/ admitting that LOL). I look for ideas and tips like this to help me. I really appreciate you taking the time to teach others!
Thank You for this time saving information. I was considering buying a lift but this tutorial makes it look easier to install my drywall. Whew. Thank You.
Thanks for sharing your steps. I am not hanging sheet rock but plywood in a workshop ideas are basically same. The locking mechanism of 2x4,6 or 8 with 1/2” plywood is great idea!
I'm glad I came across this. I had a fairly similar way of installing ceilings. I like yours better and I look forward to giving it a try on my next remodel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Same method, use a 2x with a 3/4" strip firmly attached (no swivel).place it over the first sheet you installed, one joist in from the end of the drywall (2× on top, 3/4" board toward the floor). Screw it through the drywall, a couple inches from the edge. That way the hole will be in the seam and not make more work for yourself. Do the same thing at the other end of the drywall. Then position a ladder about five feet out from the edge of the first piece of drywall and lean a dead man against it. Make sure the deadman won't fall over and break a window or damage drywall! Insert the second piece of drywall, raise the opposite edge, and wedge the deadman underneath.
Was going to buy a drywall lift over $200, but after watching this video, I think using your method I can hang the drywall by myself tomorrow. Thanks for sharing this video!!
😊that just made it easier for me ..thank you for the awesome easy video ,been watching videos on how to by yourself and they were so difficult ,i been bracing joists ,rafters and never thought of that simple trick ..so awesome 😊
This is very awesome! We just got done framing out a room in our garage and now we’re onto hanging the sheet rock and I was dreading doing the ceiling but not now after watching your video. Thank you for sharing this tip with the world!!
That's absolutely ingenious! Where were you 2 years ago when I was hanging that nasty damned sheetrock! I broke about 3 sheets trying to get it on the ceiling by myself. My back will never be the same. This is such a neat way to do it. Many thanks!!!
I agree lol putting sheetrock on my head and trying to hold it up and screw it in my neck has never been the same not to mention how many times I missed the stud!
Good Job! Two 4inch pieces are enough to hold it up so you can put in some screws. If you can't tape and Mudd properly, the rest of the steps are still important. Just for his wife.
Very helpful. I'm a 60 yr old woman on a farm. It costs me a lot for help and not much gets done because of that. Going to do the ceiling in my pantry . It a low ceiling and and small room. If goes good I will do the bathroom next
Not a bad idea. You can also rent a self crank drywall lift that is very easy to use and there’s no need for blocks. The first few sheets will go a little slow, but as you get used to the lift you’ll move along at a faster speed.
I only made preparations for one side of the drywall. I staged my ladder about five feet from the wall, with the deadman leaning against it. Then I would insert the drywall into the support on the wall, lift the drywall, grab the deadman and wedge it under the side opposing the wall.
It's helpful on new construction but I'm looking for replacing a ceiling with 3/8 material (my case - plywood). Really old house. May just find an extra hand
This is a great idea but I’ve found a way to do more than the edges. I mounted a similar set up on a rolling painters scaffold so once the sheet is up I can move it anywhere I want it.
@@kevovernon If you're doing a piece in the middle of a room, you wouldn't be able to: 1) slide it up the wall like that, and 2) have the 2x2 to rest it on, because there would presumably already be a sheet of drywall where you'd need the 2x2 to go.
We used to take 16 penny nails and nail a few of them 1/2 deep into the top plate 1” below the ceiling framing the length of the sheet. Hang the drywall and then pull the nails. Go to the next sheet. Much faster.
@@Lawless187indika no busting through the board. The board just rests on top of the nails. They stick out of the wall an inch or so below the ceiling framing.
Great idea I could use it for my house project . I have been scratching my head the whole day how to successfully hoist that damn dry wall… I failed today but will try your trick next time 😊!
Thanks so much! Saved me from having to hire another person to replace one full sheet of ceiling sheetrock! Owner of the house stored a lot of electronic equipment balanced on the joists. Raccoons got in the attic and created havoc and damage to A/C and two holes in the ceiling. One hole was created when the electronic equipment was knocked off the joists crashing through the sheetrock. The other hole (3' in diameter) was created when damage to the A/C drip pan was damaged causing attic insulation to soak up water and eventually got the sheetrock wet which then fell through. So, thank you for your vid!
Wow I knew I would find a solution to hanging Sheetrock by myself but this is genius…..so damn simple yet at the time harder that a Rubik’s cube. 😂 Thank you
I started my drywalling in my basement wall, it suppose to dropp ceiling but we have extra drywall so we decided to use it on ceiling, is it still gonna be ok cause I've read that ceiling first before sidewall, thanks in advance
You should be fine. It is usually ceiling first but you should have space if the ceiling height is normal and you have a double top plate around the walls.
I’m a 66 year old lady with little money and a lot of things I have to do myself. This was awesome. Thank you young man.

That's great for the edges. What about the center pieces?
I always used to use a boardclip for that and it worked well for me, a lot of people use to use deadmans too but I was always quicker with a clip.
overhead press, 3 sets of 2 to 6 reps

What about the next row in? You don't have the advantage of the strip on the wall
My first thought
for the next row you screw in any piece of wood to the joist to slide the next piece in. and so on
Duh 🤣

That only works against the wall and corners one but not in middle ones if you have a large room of course
Why would it not work ?

That sounds like a good trick too.
You mean like you busting the drywall thru the nails for it to hold? Sory if i misunderstand
@@Lawless187indika no busting through the board. The board just rests on top of the nails. They stick out of the wall an inch or so below the ceiling framing.
