I had the same idea with the strawberries but in our wood there is just too much canopy and although they have grown they didn't flower or produce any fruit obviously, yet the same ones planted in the garden produced huge amounts of fruit this year. Next year I'm going to try something a little less native to the UK with ginseng as it's supposed to enjoy shade. I'll try the strawberries in another place with more sunlight. Good luck with the project and trials.
Great stuff. Trying to do the same in Texas where my Property Owner's Association is writing tickets for "weeds" and dumping broad spectrum insecticide out of an airplane for mosquitoes. We do what we can, don't get discouraged, and above all else, educate.
Deep roots and pollinators and native plants looks great on the east coast. It looks ratty, sad and dry in California. I guess when everything is a virtue signal you don't put as much thought or effort into things. Back to roots though, barley roots penetrate clay soil up to 8ft. Back in Alaska Cottonwood creek mall put in a lawn next a creek. The run off exterminated the salmon. That was a food source gone overnight. You are on the right path.
Native plants don’t have to look ratty in CA. There are so many inspiring TH-cam video channels for CA native plants: 🌼Calflora Database 🌼Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour 🌼CPNS : various regions of CA 🌼Epic Gardening if you want inspiration for growing food, CA natives will help recharge groundwater, and you know it’s already a great place to grow fruit and produce. (I don’t think it’s virtue signaling, but rather seeking to inspire others. (And sometimes generating more content for TH-cam algorithms, so any of them get viewed!)

I appreciate the video and I gave it a thumbs up, but I don't see a beginning food forest. This is more like "gardening with native plants, and also, here are some fruit bushes, and way over there are some wildflowers." Which is fine but a totally different subject. And it's all very nice. BTW if you are going to feed yourself with a "food forest" consisting of only native plants, good luck. The trees are out there, bring them in! Add natives to it (I strongly support that), and bring the wildflowers into the forest. You need to produce some food. Remove your self-imposed limits, embrace what is possible.
They are there, 2 PawPaw, two apple, persimmon, added 8 serviceberry, 8 blueberry, gooseberry, currants, mulberry, and the usual annuals. We focused on building soil first. Now we are adding more.
What’s not to love! Damn, this is living! Well done my friend.
Thank you Chuck - we are still learning.

Genuine. Authentic. Balance is needed. A life’s prayer to give back to the Universe.
Thanks Jeff, hoping you can tour in person one day! Peace❤!
Thank you very much Jeff - we are very happy that you enjoyed the content! Be well!
By the way, the meadow’s synergy with the food forest is brilliant - looks accidental and random but actually well planned.
Yes, everything has evolved, we didn’t start out thinking that way. Thx for watching.
Thank you!!!
Awesome to see you in your element E! Great work and love the snakes 😀
Thx Shmelly, hope you are well! Miss you! Tell parents hello plz!

That will be incredibly awesome, go for it, and I’d love to know how it turns out.

Everything is thriving. No runoff. Meadow was really nice this year! Thank you for watching.
