Was wondering that myself. THNSW seem to keep changing the sound of 3801's whistle. this one sounds different compare to the previous night footage Bevan did. th-cam.com/video/FXo-6UvW3qk/w-d-xo.html
I’m curious to know if the latest livery is based on a previous livery. The current green is somewhat darker than I remember and it’s a bit unusual to see the piston casings painted black, other than when the entire loco is painted black. Can anyone enlighten me?
The livery she is wearing is the same she wore in the early 1950's prior to being painted black, the shade of green is the correct one as her previous was too bright in it's shade.
@@algrigg9039 I was being sarcastic. It was a traction test. They let the 38 go first 30 years ago and it suffered traction problems with an IU behind it. I'm a driver and the driver on the IU was a friend of mine. No one in the industry believes the official story but the public can't know the truth.
Wow what a beautiful loco they did an amazing job restoring her even spruced up her wheels
What a gorgeous engine!
Great video, thankyou. The old girl is looking grand!
As usual, fabulous footage from Bevan. I bet the fireman got quite a workout feeding that hungry boiler up Cowan Bank!
Check the illumination of the side rods and motion. I think that was an original feature. Very fancy.
Always hard to film at night, great shots !
Holy s**t! How do people know where and when to find this engine? When and where’s the next trial taking place?
I don't think THNSW want people to know about the test runs
At 3:19 you might need to have the polar express music over this it makes it even more amazing than ever
thats one huge kettle on the boil cuppa anyone 😳
Looks fantastic !!
I know how it feels to be blasted by a cloud of steam! Are trains in Australia required to have a red light at the end like the do in the USA?
Yep!
What's with the whistle? The old one used to send shivvers down the spline.

This is the original sound of a 38 class whistle. This how it is supposed to sound.

I see they sent the IU first and let the 38 follow. I wonder why they do it that way now.
Testing train has lower rights than a scheduled passenger. It has to wait.
