    Hi, Helen!
    I've been looking for this technique for quite sometime. Thanks so much for your short and to-the-point tutorial. One suggestion I'd like to share is, let's say scale your circles by 500% and then adjust the halftone properties `20` to `50` or `100` and then when you do image trace with a larger image on your canvas, it will do a better job of tracing the circles better. They will be less distorted. This is trick I have used for a while with Image Trace. I actually blow the image up to the entire workspace and then trace, with the adjustments of noise, paths, and corners as well. Thanks again! Now I have my halftones vectorized perfectly.

      Oh, what a smart solution. Thank you so much for posting this. I'm pinning your comment so everyone can benefit from it.

      Wonderful! I hope it's helpful. It doesn't always guarantee 100% accuracy, but expanding the image before you image trace it definitely improves the quality of the vector. Thanks again, I've now saved these halftone vectors to try in some new designs. All the best!@@HelenBradley

    Thank you for this! I needed them to be more spaced out in the center, so just made that middle gradient lighter (50% black) and it was perfect.

      @HelenBradley  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well done! It is surprising just how light the gradient can be and you will still get a really nice halftone pattern.

    Trying to figure out how to append an existing gradient preset in Ps. I just learned how to create a new preset but I change the look of an image, then I have to test that look in my game. If it isn't right I have to change the gradient. I don't want to have to create a brand new preset for every test and wondering if its possible to append a preset when I make a change to it? Thanks for all your help!!

    • @EurocatGames
      @EurocatGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HelenBradley With the gradient editor open there is a button that you can click on that says 'New'. If you right click on that newly created gradient, you're given a list of options, one of which is 'Append Default Gradients'. I didn't know if that option would erase all my other gradients or what it would do. I was making a gradient, testing it out in one of my games and then if it needed tweaking I wanted to append that existing preset instead of creating a brand new one. If I had to do the later I would have 25-30 new presets in my gradient list, of which only one would be good and I would have to delete all the others. I hope that made sense.

      Yep - it’s ‘Live’ but it’s a bitmap effect. So you’ll still need to use the Image Trace on it if you want to convert it to vector.

      @@HelenBradley I cannot see the Image trace make option when I select the bitmap image. Why is that? Thanks

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you expand the effect and rasterize the image? If you did then you can select it and choose Image Trace from the Object Menu. If not, it's likely you're missing a step somewhere. If you want to send me your file, I will look at it. Send it to helen@helenbradley.com and remind me what your issue is!

    شكرا جدا , اريد ان اسأل سؤال هل يمكن جعل النقاط من الداخل صغيرة ؟

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      إذا فهمت سؤالك - يتم التحكم في حجم الأشكال باللون الرمادي. إذا كان اللون الرمادي فاتحًا ، فستكون الأشكال صغيرة وإذا كان غامقًا ، تكون الأشكال كبيرة. إذا قمت بعكس التدرج بحيث يكون فاتحًا من الداخل ومظلمًا من الخارج ، فستكون الأشكال صغيرة من الداخل وأكبر من الخارج.
      If I understand your question - the size of the shapes is controlled by the grey color. If the grey color is light then the shapes are small and if it is dark then the shapes are big. If you reverse the gradient so it is light on the inside and dark on the outside then the shapes will be small on the inside and larger on the outside.

    thanks really good tutorial!! I have a question, how can i make perfect circle?

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +youngchan JI Hi there. If you want to draw a perfect circle, hold the Shift key as you draw it - this constrains the ellipse to a perfect circle. Is this what you wanted to do? If I have misinterpreted your question, let me know and I will try to answer better.

    Thank you, this solved a problem I am just about to have. However, I have another question, likely you have already done something on this. I would like to create a gradient on a log created using step and repeat. Essential the logo is one main object repeated 11 times, each time a slight modification to it.
    However, when I apply a gradient to this it only registers the original object when I apply the gradient. Using the technique in this video I was able to add a gradient, however the gradient is applied to the original object then repeated (which is a really cool affect, just not what I am going for). I tried to unify in paths as you would to outlined text, but that left me with the original object again.I can do this rasterizing in photoshop, but I would like to maintain the vector of illustrator if possible for scalability. I am sure this is super easy, I don't know my tools well enough. Could you direct me to a tutorial where you do this? Thank you in advance. I hope you make lots of money on this channel, its so awesome.

      Edward, you can try using a paler gray. Make your darkest gray really light and that might help?

    I'm not sure if this is because I am working in a new version, but when I do the trace, the circle condenses and seems to lose the gradient effect. Any advice?
    Your videos are really clear. Thanks. Just got illustrator and getting used of it.

    • @HelenBradley

      Hi Emer. I just tried this with Illustrator CC 2018. The initial trace is horrible, but if you adjust the settings in the Advanced area and make Paths and Corners a very high value and set Noise to a very low value you should get a good trace. Short answer is that you really have to play with the trace settings. Try this and let me know how you go.

    Holly s....Can i do this with gradient dots? Or Specific objects? Like fill a leaf with colored shiny bubbles that react to the shape and get smaller on the sides to be able to fill it up properly?

    • @HelenBradley
      @HelenBradley  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a great question. I can't think of any easy solution. There really isn't any way to control the size of shapes relative to another shape so I think the answer is no. However if I can find a solution I'll let you know. Thank you for stopping by my channel.
