1933 MG J2 - supercharged, extensive competition history - 43 years in present ownership
When it first appeared in 1932, the MG J2 really captured the public's imagination. Purposeful looking with cut away doors and slab-type petrol tank, its rakish looks were to set the style for small sports cars for many years to come and it was much admired by coveted by dashing young chaps of the 1930s!
This 1933 example has the more stylish swept wings (the majority of J2’s have cycle wings). During the 43 year current ownership, she has been continually developed including being fitted with a Shorrock 75 supercharger, and has proved her worth in competition, being campaigned both in the UK and across Europe (including Goodwood, Montlhery, Le Mans Classic, Nurburgring and Zandvoort to name just a few (over 79 events recorded).
With regard to performance, the engine is reported to develop 55 bhp and she was timed at VSCC Colerne over a straight 1km sprint, at 100 mph some years ago!
All work on the car has been carried out by highly regarded specialists.
Fully rebuilt around 28 years ago, she benefitted from an engine rebuild in 2017 along with a new radiator. Correct competition wheels are fitted and she has a current VSCC Buff Form.
Further details will be updated shortly along with more photographs and a video.
There is a substantial history and numerous photographs of the car in action and her detailed specification is available to interested parties.
She is fully road legal and retains her original Leicester registration number.
