This is almost cathartic to watch. It feels weird loving something that is so inaccessible to most, including yourself. You’ve made something fun out of this situation, and you’ve made it out of love
As a nonbinary ace femme, I appreciated the enthusiasm behind the "It's about lesbians... YEAH!!" for Lempicka. 😂 This was very entertaining! Hopefully next time, you can get another guest like you did when you did a Booze-icals with Broadway By Ghostlight! I would LOVE to see a Booze-icals with MickeyJo and Aeryn, Howard Ho, Margaret Hall, Tommy/Musical Theater Mash, Jesse from Musicals with Cheese, and of course Christine/Diva from Musical Hell!
Okay that was the officially the best sponsor ad you’ve done. No contest. And yes, the song Days of Wine and Roses was written for the movie. It’s the theme song. And yet not in the Broadway show haha.
"Blown up by a rabbit" is so perfectly the kind of thing you would say about the scene where the Holy Hand Grenade blows the rabbit up if you were drunk and your brain wasn't working quite right.
i saw Teeth the musical at Playwrights Horizons twice with my friend and it was phenomenal. i’m really hoping the show can get a second life at another off-broadway theater or something.
@@WaitintheWings Wild, didn't expect an official reply! Re: exploding rabbits, they try to blow up the rabbit using the Holy Hand Grenade, after it slaughters half of the knights in an absolute bloodbath. Not as funny as a rabbit blowing people up, but still pretty funny.
So someone from Tulsa where the outsiders was set and filmed and it’s like a big thing here, hearing you basically describe it as grease with death made me roll with laughter
I watched this because I wanted to hear what you thought of Illinoise and boy was I disappointed 😅 Seriously though, New York is ridiculously expensive and there are so many shows that opened in quick succession for Tony eligiblity so no one has the time and money to see them all. That said though, Illinoise was an absolutely transcendent and gorgeous production and very queer and I hope people go see it. It's my favorite show of this year so far and I've seen a bunch of the heavy hitters
Gutenberg computer guy had me cracking up! I used to work a research library that housed the Gutenberg Bible so it was particularly hilarious to me! 😅 loved it!
Okay I knew BTTF was “remade” into a musical on broadway but idk they did The Outsiders and even The Notebook. I’m pretty sure there’s already been a discussion about these musical remakes and even the jukebox musicals too but is Broadway really in that weird of a place now where that’s what’s mostly drawing crowds?
12:46 the outsiders is like my favorite book and honestly this drunk summary was pretty good. Just throw in that it’s got some tender, homosexual undertones and yea that’s the outsiders (disclaimer I haven’t seen the musical or listened to the soundtrack yet but I simply have to assume that the broadway musical kept the homosexual undertones bc I would be deeply disappointed in the broadway industry if they didn’t)
That story of Cabaret reminds me of when my parents went to Paris, a very long time ago, and someone handed them a flier for a Chicago show. When they got there, they realized it was not the musical but some sort of cabaret-esque show with topless women. Or maybe it was on a cruise to France? I'm not sure. My mom hates cruises but it's possible my dad convinced her to go on one.
10:46 miraculously, these drunken musical stylings are the first time i'm accurately hearing it as "concrete jungle what dreams are made of" and not "concrete jungle wet dream tomato" (which i knew couldn't be the real lyrics, but like. what's happening there)
Had hoped for a modern Great Gatsby musical, love the casting, but the music and book just seem so dull and predictable. I would say it's what people who hadn't seen it might predict a Great Gatsby musical to sound like, but most people would likely imagine something a little more interesting. Playing a Great Gatsby show straight with no interesting direction or identity after so many adaptions both on stage & film is asking to be forgettable.
How to Dance in Ohio sounds amazing and is now on the top of my list of shows I want to see. As the mother of an autistic child your explanation made me cry.
17:41 my college did Cabaret my senior year and I cried like a fucking baby seeing it for the first time. It’s suuuch a fun show and all my classmates were fantastic in it but omg the ending hits you so hard
This was FANTASTIC 😂. I haven’t seen any of these shows besides Water for Elephants, but I know the story of a few. Idk if sober me could have done much better? But I have to tell you….as soon as y’all confirmed Hells Kitchen uses Empire State of Mind, I CACKLED! Go spend Broadway prices to hear a song you can literally hear 500000 times just walking through Times Square to the theater….sure 😂
@Bond23d some of the tickets are paid for and some are freebies. However his entire job is to review these musicals which makes money for the musicals when people come and see them. Much as I would love to have free tickets, a theater giving me a free ticket does nothing for them. A theater giving a free ticket to somebody with a pretty substantial following on TH-cam will probably generate some ticket sales.
“The docs take a lot of work”?! You post like twice a month dude, if that. If you’re saying you were too busy working on “Ride: The Musical” to see a couple of shows over a period of months then…you need someone in your life to help you manage your time better.
Ummmmmm…wow. So I’m a fan of your content & I watched this whole video. It’s sort of funny & sort of cringe. How can you claim to be an authority on musical theatre if you can’t be bothered to go see it? Enter a lottery, wait in a rush line…you know, like the rest of us. The flippancy of it all is very off-putting & doesn’t do much to establish yourself as someone who knows what they’re talking about. Maybe you should consider doing something else. Disappointing.
As a Kickstarter supporter, I feel a lot better knowing the money is going to paying his team and his time is going to make documentaries, rather than spending every night at the theater. He sees shows. He's just more selective on which ones.
How did I do? I think I aced it.

"blown up by a rabbit"--I don't remember that being in the movie, but I wish it was, because that sounds hilarious.
