    Thanks for a great meetup! I think the new firmware exceeded everyone's expectations. Somehow you keep making this device more and more powerful and more fun to use. It is, by far, my most used piece of gear I have ever owned and has been an amazing tool to enhance my creativity. I appreciate your vulnerability at the end there, too--off stream. Knowing that your dad was the person who introduced you to trackers makes this whole M8 journey hit differently for me. Thanks for all the love you continue to put into this project and towards the community as a whole.

    The M8 is the most useful and fun song composing device I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning in over 30yrs of music production. Tim is a genius!

    This is exactly what I was wishing for but thought would be too much of a stretch to expect, at least for a long time. So many of these features are game changers in a device that was already filled to the brim with game changers. I feel blessed, thanks Trash80 and your dedicated community. What I'd like to see at some point is a 2 pole/4 pole selectiom for filters. Even 1 pole/6db for that Buchla LPG flavor.

    Hey everyone, I’m relatively new to the m8, have only had it for a few months and didn’t even know what a tracker really even was when I bought it, and wow…. What an amazing piece if gear. I’ve been making music for 15 years, and I’ve barely only scratched the surface on this thing but I can tell already that it’s the most powerful device I’ve ever owned. Very happy with my purchase, and what an unexpected, amazing bonus to find such a great community surrounding the m8. I’ve realized that one of the best ways to tell if a device is going to be totally worth the money spent is by looking into the community surrounding the device, if one even exists at all. It’s a pretty clear indicator that you won’t be disappointed if the community is strong, like this one (this doesn’t apply to anything by Teenage Engineering for some reason 😂 you have to find that out on your own).
    Anyways, I’m actually commenting because I have a question. Is there any way at all to update the firmware on my m8 without a computer? I currently only have an iPad and it seems like I’m sh*t out of luck, is that true? Thank you in advance. Btw I just uploaded my first song that I made on the m8 to my page if anyone feels like checking it out! Had fun messing with the different limiter modes on that one.

    • @mikey303
      @mikey303 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Sadly there's no way to update without a computer handy! I hope that a solution can be made someday. Glad you are connecting with the device so much. It's my holy grail gear as well :)

    • @CreeewDeeeTaaay
      @CreeewDeeeTaaay 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not sure if it's possible, but I wonder if you could use a RasPi to push the firmware update, away from home...could be that there's something like TyTools available for Linux, and could be installed to a Pi. Not exactly sans-computer, since the Pi is def a computer, but more portable, absolutely!

    Tim, you are a genius! personally the last feature to get the perfect firmware should be an offline pitchshift/timestretch

    • @CreeewDeeeTaaay
      @CreeewDeeeTaaay 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      We can dream, right? Though, betting that it’s too cpu intensive to realistically run on the teensy in a usable way (like, without major offline processing time/lag).

    • @nikolafeve
      @nikolafeve 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@CreeewDeeeTaaay Yes of course it will never happen in a realtime form, but i'm totally ok to have this feature offline even if the process take some time 🙏🏻

    • @CreeewDeeeTaaay
      @CreeewDeeeTaaay 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@nikolafeve Same! An oldschool Akai timestretch option in the offline sample manipulation options would be ACE. Though, you can already achieve, realtime, something akin to that via the LFO>>sample start trick, for looping samples in time with your project tempo. So, I bet you could abuse that technique for non-BPM-matching purposes...if you've not tried that yet, it's highly recommended 😀

    it would be great to implement also ability to use vertical rows of buttons on Lauchnchpad pro as CC controllers - for controlling various parameters of M8 .. you know.. imaen slide from bottom to up in column of buttons will basically behave like tweak parameter from zero to max, sending CC values from 0 to 127

    Here is a summary, I ran the transcript through chatgpt:
    Play Button Behavior Change: Simplified play/stop functionality.
    Instrument Pool Screen: Easier navigation and management of instruments, with auto-sorting and previewing capabilities.
    Auto Sort File Browser: Automatic sorting of files in smaller directories.
    Preload Samples on Song Cue Load: Reduced lag when switching songs with many samples.
    Trig Envelope Fast Forward: Improved accuracy for trig envelopes.
    Pitch Mod Destination Amount: Finer control over pitch modulation.
    ADSR Small Value Scaling: More precise control over quick envelopes.
    Drunk LFO Shape: Improved randomness for the "drunk" LFO shape.
    Delay Send Effects: Mono-summed input for delay sends.
    Effects List Redesign: Clearer separation between instrument effects and mods.
    New Command Effects: Including ARP tick speed (Art), instrument switch (I), global groove (GGR), and DJ filter controls (DJC).
    Repeat to (RTO) Command: Allows stopping the REP command at a specific value.
    Table Tick FE Mode: Note mapping in tables for additional manipulation.
    Scales Tuning: Adjustments for microtonal scales and different tuning standards.
    Post Filter Limit Modes: Added new distortion options (Post A, R1, and R2).
    R2 Mode Functionality: It appears to fold once and then go to the edge of the upper or lower boundary.
    Sample Demonstration: A demonstration of samples, suggesting the use of a loop to show their flavor.
    New Filters: Two new filters introduced - ZDF LP (Zero Delay Feedback Low Pass) and ZDF HP (High Pass). They have a different sound characteristic and resonance behavior.
    Wave Synth Update: Renamed U Mirror to Scan and replaced the overflow oscillator shape with over 60 wave tables, each containing 64 different waveforms. The Scan parameter sweeps through these waveforms.
    New MIDI Settings: The MIDI settings screen has been updated to include a Control Surface option, currently supporting the Launchpad Pro. This allows for Ableton-style grid triggering, muting, soloing, and other live performance features.
    Song EQ: A three-band equalizer configurable for different types like low shelf, notch, high shelf, etc., is added.
    Effect Settings: Chorus, delay, and reverb effects now have their own equalizers.
    Instrument EQ: Each instrument can have its own EQ with 32 slots available. These EQs can be assigned and adjusted in real-time, but fast switching may cause clicking.
    Control Surface Enhancements: Improved support for control surfaces, specifically the Launchpad Pro, allowing for more interactive live performance control.
    Various Improvements and Fixes: There are minor improvements like the ability to auto-sort instruments, edit instruments directly from the phrase screen, and create new instruments from the instrument pool.
    Instrument Pool Access: Users can access the instrument pool from the project screen and audition instruments by pressing start when the sequence isn't playing.
    Tuning to Scales: The tuning offset is based on A440, meaning changes are relative to the A440 standard pitch.
    ADSR and AHD Envelopes: The quick envelope feature applies to ADSR envelopes, which are time-based, but not to AHD, which is tick-based.
    Wave Table Manipulation: Users can hold a specific part of the wave table using rep or LFO frequency adjustment.
    Launchpad Pro Compatibility: The only launchpad with MIDI TRS support is the Launchpad Pro Mark III.
    EQ and Limiter: The song EQ is rendered in software, pre-limiter. Users can MIDI map EQ parameters, though it might result in non-smooth transitions due to lack of interpolation.
    Rep Command Behavior: The rep command stops when a specific value is reached in a future step.
    Parameter Changes: The recent changes primarily apply to pitch mappings, providing more granular adjustments.
    Effect Commands for EQ: There are no direct effect commands for controlling EQ, but internal MIDI mapping can be used as a workaround.
    CPU Impact of EQ: Adding multiple EQs increases CPU usage slightly (by about 2-3%).
    Song Playback Behavior: The new play button behavior doesn't affect project previewing, and there's a limit of 32 total EQ banks.
    Future Shows and Performances: Upcoming events include performances in Seattle on August 23rd and a meet and greet on August 24th, as well as a show in Shibuya, Japan on September 7th.
    Following these clarifications, the session moved to showcasing user-submitted bundles, with a special note that the new alpha firmware will be used for these demonstrations. The session concluded with a reminder to report any issues encountered during the bundle playback.
