As a beginner not only of bees but also a beginner of diy activities I would like to say thank you for your help. your in-depth explanations help to make sure I understand the role of each piece and therefore the importance of positioning. Thank you!
Boy, am I glad I use Langstroths :-) They are doddle to put together compared to these. BTW, speaking as an ex-cabinet maker, you can put too much glue on so much so that the joints can't marry up and there's a wodge of glue holding the two faces apart. You should get a thin coat of glue so that it holds the two parts together.
Cheers for the tip, Ian! I will dial it back a bit next time. I find the fit on these boxes tends to be very tight and you get a lot of run off but I can imagine that being an issue on looser fitting joints. You are right about the nationals. They are a real pain to put together. Its clearly been designed by committee! Langstroth is superior in every aspect!
Its a really bad design buts its the most common on the UK market. Langstroth is so much simpler and a far superior format. The national isnt great for bees and a pain to build/put together! :(
Clear and concise as always. Keeping the boxes square is a pain without a template. Thanks for your useful tip on squaring.
No worries - glad you found it useful :)
This has been so helpful. Thank you!

I have done very similar with WoodPrix designs.
Oh cock... just realised I put the bars that the frames sit on back to front! Frames still sit on them ok, hope that doesn't cause too much bother
Sure its fine. Send me a pic if you like. Really easy to mix it up isnt it!
Hey Laurence. Can you use an air nailer to nail these? I have loads of 50mm 18g brads and an air nailer. thanks
Hi Aaron. Yeah that would be ideal! Save loads of time.
I would also glue them up though ;)
@@BlackMountainHoney Perfect, thanks! Got glue to, so will be sure to glue up the joins :)
I really like the woodglut plans.
Why would we continue to use this when so many designs available that are easy to use thanks for clearing my head
