This video deserves an award: An entire TH-cam trapping video where 90% of the audio does not consist of listening to the guy sniff watery, runny wet snot into my earbuds every 5 seconds. Thumbs up for that alone.
PJ Nelson I don’t see them as rodents, they help rivers, trees and other animals. Maybe in some cases they can be rodents, but I still think they are cute and helpful
That gamecam footage is awesome! Really helps to see what they do when they approach. I might have to try it, I set similar, usually with one trap, but half the time I get a back foot! Thanks for sharing, be safe out there!
Two questions: 1 - What time of year is this set affective? 2 - What's your favorite set of waiters for beaver trapping? Extra points if they would double well for waterfowl. Thanks for your great content!
I heard from an older trapper who used to smear the beaver gland musk on his gloves to keep the human scent off of them. He always caught beaver faster than other guys because he didn't have to wait for the scent to wash off.
Great video as always bud. Know it's an older one but question for anyone. Had a foothold that was tripped, slight signs of struggle and the critter got out. I assume it was a shallow catch on the foot, sounds right and any reasons why that might happen and how to avoid it? I know it's an ambiguous question without much detail but figured I'd try.
@330Maniac awesome, thank you man. I'll check the tension and see how loose or tight it is. What should I be shooting for? Just picked up my third beaver of the week, appreciate you putting your knowledge out there. I don't think I would have done very well without you, trapperj and coon creek. Would love to see the three of you come together to talk about your various ways of trapping and then maybe a little competition?
that was great ! took a drive yesterday , creeks are still 50% froze over .. hopefully by the end of the week il be beaver trappin ! cant wait ..thanks for posting man
You could possibly hold a beaver especially a small one but I would definitely not recommend using them on purpose. I've caught a few small ones by accident but you will lose about 95% of your catch
Absolutely awesome video. You showed what you were doing, what ylu were using, and even how it was actually done. Very informative. great work, I subscribed!
Great video Scotty! The trail camera footage is spectacular! I'm glad that you have some great memories that were made with your Dad, my Dad went the same year. It's great memories like this that are special. Have a good one bud!
I got my first two foothold catches this year. The second one was set 6" away from my 330. The trail cam showed a small beaver come check out a caught beaver in the 330. I went for a check with my wife and found one in the 330 and one in the bridger on a slide rod. Got the knowhow from you, thanks.
Awesome video! It was pretty cool to see how that beaver was acting around that trap awesome catch, I'm sure your dad would be proud of you for putting that to use
What kind of drowning lock do you use on a double twist wire? Your video didn't show a good shot of the drowning lock. But the wire/drowning block is a great idea to make your load lighter to the trap spot. They have a good folding kayak anchor that weighs about 2 pounds, is lighter with more gripping power to make the load even lighter. But please say where you got the drowning lock.
+330 MaNiaC thanks for the tip. I like you videos, learn a lot. My favorite was the guy with the 2 dogs standing on a frozen lake saying "Get off my land"! Didn't he realize that he wasn't standing on land? What a fool. Thanks againm
Ty for this I'm the only woman in Minnesota I think that takes care of wild things last spring was a bear this yr a beaver as long as its not peppy la puuu we're good lol
Great video bud I was wondering if those traps would work I have 170 acres an they have damned my creek up bad in a dozen spots I wonder is it 1 beaver doing it or more? Please let me know brother
hey i was setting a spot where i saw some hair in a big hole in the side of a big creek set it with a #1 coil spring and caught a beaver its a miricle it didnt pull out. but would i be wasting my time to set it agin
Nice catch there.....I had just four traps out for a day and got to nice beaver myself this weekend...was a lot more but that's all I had time for....lol....keep up the good work and videos....thanks
Now that was cool!! Bet there isn't too many video's out there like it. Again over heard talk of large one's going for $30, but this time it was no April Fools. I'll try to see if I can get more information for you, but just talked with another trapper last night and he said a well known buyer confirmed prices to be down. Herter's products and store's brings back memories for me also. I still have a XL Ugly Stick my parents bought me from their old store in Hallie, WI. between Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire when I was embarking on my career in Walleye Fishing. Of course I needed the top of the line Shimano reel with it also that they bought me. My career in Walleye fishing never panned out also, but I tried and still have great interest in the professional side of it.
Knew a guy who was paid to just "get rid" of the beavers. Sat on the beavers lodge at night w a weak light w red cellophane over the lens taped to his 22 rifle. When the beavers came back he shot em in the head w 22 shorts. Cleaned out an entire colony in about 2 hours. Said they were all floating the next day. Got paid twice. Once by the landowner & again w the pelts. They may or may not hit your sets but theyre always going to come back to their lodges.
@@330Maniac ah right what do they taste like I'm from Northern Ireland we don't have beavers any of the pest control I do is for foxes and some bird species they don't get used for food.
i subscribed to your channel because of the fishing episodes but now I'm inspired to try my hand at trapping. Looks like its very rewarding. Gonna try the back reel thing one day too lol. Great video by the way!
droogsmaan Gaming call your local DNR office. There is a trapping certification course you must take before you can get your license. They will teach you basic stuff. also watch a lot of TH-cam videos they are invaluable. Join Facebook trapping pages too.
Hey like he said after you get squared away on licensing and trapping tags...but 330 helped me by watching all his videos now I bring in 50 beaver a season and mink and muskrat...I almost went and bought 110 supports to position them in front of the den and I watched 330 crazy guy and he showed how he just leans the trap back a little...I havent had a miss yet...and picked up some mink which was very fun. If you're into water trapping 330 is the new Tom Miranda!! He's the best water trapper and explains so clearly!
Two legholds side by side usually does not work. I have tried this many times and the second trap is always sprung. Two separate sets is the way to go.
Great vid..........some nice lookin traps those B no 5s. I use similar for otter and excellent. Great footage, excellent demo beaver trapping vid...........thumbs up....
troy jones When you're Beaver trapping you want to use the largest foothold possible because the larger the jaw spread the better chance you have of catching that Beaver. Also they have very large back feet.
No I prefer a 750 over the bridger But IMO duke 4s are way to small of a trap compared to these. My catch rate with a bridger 5 or a 750 is way higher than a duke 4.
Great videos. I trapped muskrat with my dad in the 70’s we had a blast. Think we were paid $3 to $5 dollars a pelt. Is there still a market for fur bearing animals? I’d like to do it again. Thanks
I’m only watching this is for online school lol
Really? How does it relate to online schooling? Its cool to hear that
Idk my teacher told me to watch it
@@briellerodgriguez9911 cool! I like your teacher!

Thanks so much! I caught my first beaver using this method.
Sterling Tucker you're welcome!
Sterling Tucker Why would people want to trap beavers they so cute :c
@@gonsimp4786 For the same reason that people trap mice and rats. Beaver are destructive rodents.

I assume it was a shallow catch on the foot, sounds right and any reasons why that might happen and how to avoid it?
I know it's an ambiguous question without much detail but figured I'd try.
Good pan tension will usually fix those light catches. It assures the critter gets its foot into the trap deep before it fires
@330Maniac awesome, thank you man. I'll check the tension and see how loose or tight it is. What should I be shooting for?

How does the drowning block work? Is there a cablelock on it so they can't surface?
There is a slide lock that only goes one way. It will go down the wire but not backup

Curious why you don't make two separate sets a few feet apart to avoid potential triggering of both traps?
I very seldom have the second trap fired without a beaver. Once they hit that first trap they turn and are gone down the drowning wire
Excellent video, and footage!👍

Dave Jan That’s not legal in Minnesota though - trapping only for beaver.
And how does the wire work to keep the beaver from coming back up to land to breathe?
It has a one way sliding lock on it so they cannot come back up
