My favorite part is when Robert The Bruce takes the handkerchief out touches it and looks at Hamish and Stephen and they give him this look as if saying : “we are ready, just waiting on you!!!!!”
And the look the enemy gave when they charged. That’s not a look someone gives that says, “oh they decided to fight”. No sir. That’s a look of being scared of what’s coming. All that guy saw was 2 horses starting to move forward, then they halt. See a king turn back to his soldiers, followed by a soldiers throwing a sword in the air. Then super loud chants of Wallace, then an overpowering battle cry. Then an instant charge right to them. What he saw were men with nothing to lose and that were not scared of nothing, and just straight Heart. Seeing that, and just that alone, can already let you know, that you’re defeated….
An incredible scene and an incredible way to end a great movie. James Horner's score really ties it together to perfection. Ladies, if you want to see your man shed a tear or two, this is a good candidate.
I know we were the enemy at the time. But remember how we as brits fought united against Rome. We share the same passion for freedom. And one day. Scot or brit, the call will be there again.
When you have nothing left to lose, that is when the mind, body and soul is at its strongest. No pain or words will stop that final flood of adrenaline that either leads you to victory, or takes you to enternal peace.
James Horner did an INCREDIBLE job with this score, I will never get over how beautiful each piece is and how perfectly it goes with each scene of the movie ❤👏🏽
I think the sword being thrown by Hammish into the battlefield before the Scottish charge was meant to be an homage/reference to James Douglas and Robert the Bruce. Douglas went on crusade after Robert the Bruce's death and the Bruce's heart was thrown into battle before Douglas and the other scots fighting with him charged after it. What James Douglas says as he threw Robert the Bruce's heart is where the title comes from. "Go forth Brave Heart, and I shall follow thee." It's a clever reference as Wallace's sword serves as a stand in for Wallace himself just as Robert the Bruce's heart did when it was thrown first into battle.
Most movies have to be adapted somewhat from history to make them a good movie. Unless for example the main characters were not the figures from history we know, then there is more artistic license. The tv series outlander has historical figures in it but the story centres around fictional characters so they can keep it more accurate whilst also allowing what ever they like for the made up characters
I'm directly descended from The Black Douglas who sadly isn't in this film but my 22nd great grand uncle fought alongside Robert The Bruce and William Wallace. Just found it out recently through DNA testing. I'm very proud to be Scottish and I always will be we will have our freedom. 💙🏴
Dude I really can’t think in any other movie with this such bad ass ending… everything is perfect, emotional, inspiring and encouraging… Almost once a week I come here to watch this scene and be inspired to do my best, for my Lord Jesus and for my family and beloved ones… 👊🏼🙏🏼🤝🏼
The way they look at him when he pulls out Williams handkerchief as the camera slowly zooms in on their faces. You can just feel what they are thinking. Such a great ending.
The masculine urge to fight alongside your brothers in arms with swords and shields, axes and spears, and charge into near certain death for a cause greater than yourself
Cause they banned Mel Gibson. Have you seen Apocalypto? Another masterpiece. Mel Gibson could make an amazing movie on who actually did 9/11, but they already cancelled him.
I remember watching this in school. It was in History (don’t ask why our teacher put It on lol) I’m from Fife, and we watched this without knowledge of what happened. Obviously we were all half in tears when Wallace died and boy we went crazy for this scene it was like we wanted to be there charging at the English army felt like all the guys in our class wanted to go to War, the girls (one of them being my now fiancé) thought we were mad. Can watch this any day and yes it is loved in Scotland despite what some say.
Love how Angus McFadyen (Robert The Bruce) shows all the different emotions going through his head. Guilt for betraying Wallace. Realizing what he fought for. Empathy when looking into the eyes of his people who sacrificed everything. And then finally deciding, "fuck this, I'm tired of negotiating settlements"
You can never snuff out the spirit of a fighting man who has nothing to lose when everything has been taken. You can only hope to just get out of the way
As beautiful as this scene is (and it's beautiful) you have to love the little humorous touch of Craig's reaction to "Now bleed with me!" It's like "God damn it, not again."
“Lead on Brave Heart, and I shall follow thee.” I love how this scene pays homage to that famous story of James Douglas hurling Robert The Bruce’s casked heart forward into battle then charging in after it.
Just a correction: The King Edward who was leading England at around the time when the Battle of Bannockburn took place was actually Edward II, the son of Edward I 'Longshanks'. Therefore, they were actually facing Longshanks' less capable son and not Longshanks himself.
Robert The Bruce was a masterful Strategist, a great warrior King and had a lot of money and power in Scotland, look up all his Battles not just Bannockburn. He was more than a match for Longshanks,. He actually fought a civil war in Scotland before he even fought a battle with the English. This guy didn't fuuk around. A true man of his times who never feared Longshanks and knew him personally.

God bless you and keep on walking in your Faith. Stay strong and Do not Ever fear! Immanuel is with you. Always and Forever.
Just watched the movie this weekend and during this scene I could have sworn that the guy behind and to the left of the madman Stephen was Thor himself Chris Hemsworth. I know he was only 12 when this film was released but look at the guy 0:16 into the video and tell me I am wrong.
Maybe it was because I was so emotionally moved by this scene as a kid, but I swear I remember there was a bolt of lightning striking in the background at 2:37 crossing with Wallace's sword when it landed. I had a crazy imagination lol.
I know for a fact, that this movie is not historically accurate in many areas...but it is so beautifully and masterfully done,... cinematically and storywise... that, ... and to be frank,.... I don't give a Shit;......because It is a work of art. And all credit to Mel Gibson, because he's the brains behind this masterpiece.
How do you work that out? Scotland had many Century's of Independence after Bannockburn until we joined the Union. Even before we officially joined the Union it was a Scots King who took the throne in England. We voted to stay in the U.K WTF read a History Book.

Indeed.....it's inspirational
You described it perfectly 😊
I thought it meant they want to kill him lol
I love Robert The Bruce's eyes as he draws his sword..they're saying, "This is complete insanity but I'll die for this cause."
The look you have when you are ready to die for the cause. Robert the Bruce and William Wallace are forever eternal even outside of Scotland.
And the look the enemy gave when they charged. That’s not a look someone gives that says, “oh they decided to fight”. No sir. That’s a look of being scared of what’s coming.

Especially when Hamish throws the sword. Peak epicness!
RIP James Horner
It was truly a masterpiece in Film. All credit to Mel Gibson. A truly mater filmmaker.
Williams father in law being there was a nice touch. He said so much without uttering a word.
"YOU'VE BLED WITH WALLACE...NOW BLEED WITH ME!!!" such a power statement; he's picking up the torch; time to fight not surrender!
Bought time that guy stood up.
He knew he would die, but that's the conviction he longed for. That's his smile before he charged them all.
That gave me chills. It makes me want to fight like a warrior poet.
@@Rye-jl2fkI tell my wife all the time, I was born in the wrong era…

RIP James Horner! One of the most epic scores in movie history.
One of the best ever.
Up there with Terminator 2
1:07 I've always loved that look Hamish and Stephen are giving Robert. Like he's at a crossroads: what kind of king are you going to be?
"You have bled with Wallace! Now bleed with me!!! - insane line!
To my Scottish friends be proud of what your ancestors did and what they fought for. Be proud of who you are and be proud of your Scottish spirit.
Definitely won’t forget!! I can actually trace my lineage back to Scotland during the Scottish Wars!! I am proud to know that!!!

Spot on. Not a lot of people know about "The Black Douglas". Are you Scottish?
I think I've read somewhere that the heart was thrown in a Crusade. Or was it some other battle?
@@michaelkavanagh932I am not, no, but I am a great admirer of the Scottish people, their nation and its storied history.

As historically inaccurate this movie is, it’s scenes like this that move me and make me continue to watch Braveheart.
The major parts were accurate.
Wallace started a rebellion.
He was hang, drawn and quartered.
Scotland kept fighting.
