Like you, had been looking at that one and it sells out quickly. Also always appreciate the tricks I pick up watching these…good stuff. I have a few FF ‘artist’ models in past year and feel the look/setups out of the box have been pretty darn good even over standard. (Or at least a perceived observation, but have not had any flaws on them). You might have to make a few adjustments to your liking or fix something, but overall I’ve found it fun tinkering with them. Watching you made it much easier. Learned more about adjusting the MN’s Floyd Rose when I first found your channel. I’ll sometimes buy FFs to learn on first before adjusting the my more expensive counterparts. As you mentioned on last it seems like the pickups are improving as well. This one seems to be hottest pickups I’ve seen… but post grounding fix sounds good to me. I still don’t think you can beat them in the budget range from what I’ve tried. Probably need to sell off a few older ones so I can try some more🙂 And anyone reading this far…what are you waiting on…SUBSCRIBE …. You won’t find many channels that go into this kinda detail.
@@DominionFretWorks well snooze you lose…. I hesitated too long on the ZW so looks like I’m waiting on another batch. They may be gradually releasing to prevent bulk buyers. I have the DG inspired FF338 and they did a great job on first run so bet that doesn’t last long either.
The thing is, if you aren't gonna use active pickups, do not have any in there that give that perception. Just have a normal cover on them. I don't know why that's a pet peeve for me, but alas, it is. Edit: Dang! Those pickups are just too hot!
ya...... I think this guitar broke records in the measuring pickup department . . . . LOL BUT . . . . This is the first guitar that measured that high that the pickups really didn't sound MUDDY or Over Hot... The clean tone really is useable . . . Thats a first for me with that pickup reading. Thanks for commenting and joining in on the topics in the review!
This is a HARD ONE TO GET ! ! ! ! ! ! I have been trying to get this guitar for over a year.... When they come in stock, they are gone within a day or 2.
It is a thicker neck 22.5mm at the nut and 25mm at the 12th. 43MM wide at the nut. 19:15, Measurements on the neck this is the spot in the video where I go over the neck.
I can feel it.... But I want to say something about this... I played very thin necks most of my life.... and the feeling of a thicker neck at one time made me feel uneasy. I started reviewing guitars and really playing all types of guitars. I now find myself liking more guitars.... IE different necks .... different pickups .... it has opened my playing up so much! For me this neck feels nice.... I can play it fast... and don't feel as if the neck is stopping me from doing anything... This guitar is not going to limit what I can do.... I feel it opens up things that I may not do on another guitar !
You've reviewed some killer Fire flies, I've went to the website but don't even see the models on the site. I'd love to buy this one and both purples you've reviewed but I can't find them
Firefly does short runs on models..... Most of the time the model will be on their site for 3 or 4 weeks .... Sometimes they sell out in 1 day ! This guitar was on the site for about 3 days... then gone. They have done this model 3 or 4 times now. The Purple LP from Firefly I review ... That was the first time for that guitar. I sure it will be back.. As it sold out fast. The Purple Strat has not been back.... Maybe next production they will do the Purple Strat again. I still have the purple STRAT ! I've watch several of your videos. Your expectations for perfection on these budget guitars is unrealistic. If I buy a lower priced model I expect I will do some setup tweets to my taste!
I review all guitars the same way... 130.00 dollar guitars to 1,500.00 dollar guitars. My job is to point out what I see in the product... Then the viewer can make the call on weather or not the asking price is good for the product. I believe this is a fair way of reviewing guitars... People know these are budget guitars and the low price that comes with them... I at times have said I don't understand how they do it... But that doesn't change my review of the instrument. I want to honest and open about the product... I try very hard to do so. I buy these guitars with my own money to give the FULL picture and not have to say TAG LINES and Key Wording.... I make mistakes at times, editing... sound.... Demo/ playing errors... BUT I hope the viewer understands the valve in this type of review.
I was thinking the same thing..... But they sound good on the clean channel... BUT ! ! ! if you watch I have a crunchie channel all setup in the line 6 STOMP HX... with this guitar the crunchy channel sounds HOT HOT HOT ! the boost channel is just flat-out MEAN SOUNDING ! but I think the presets I used are a little hot and not EQ'ed for these pickups... I think with a few tweaks here and there in the Line 6 Stomp I could clean up the Heavy Dist. channel and make it a little more punchier and airy sounding. Dunno how well they would do in a DROP TUNING... may have to try that... They surprised me with the readings . . . These could be a great metal pickup without much work on the Amp-Side of things. and LOL even a wet sounding clean tone....
Hi Avery , I pulled the trigger today and ordered the Firefly FFST with Floyd. I'll let you know on my opinion of it once it arrives. Unfortunately I had to get the white one, the black is not in stock. At least not in Floyd version. Soooo my plan is to put a Black pick guard on it with just HS , currently it's a HSS but I was looking at pick guards on Amazon and they have one that's just H an a neck S, and that particular pick guard will change the position of that pesky Volume knob so it's not so close to the strings. It only has two knobs , a volume and one tone on the Amazon pick guard. Instead of the 3 which is on the Firefly. Hopefully that pickguard will fit it but I don't know. I'm already planning to buy a real Floyd nut and a black Gotoh trem to replace the one on it. Is Firefly fairly fast at shipping ? This is the first Firefly I will have ever played.
Most of the time they are at my home within 7 days.... I have heard 4 days, But I have never gotten one that fast .. I order 1 on a Sunday once and it was here by Friday. That was the fastest I have ever gotten one.. Ya... The stock FR bridge is very soft metal... same with the locking nut. Gotoh makes a great locking nut as well. The big thing you will need is a String Tree ! They didn't put a full String Tree on any of these new FR Guitars... The nut will strip the base of the locking nut if you try to draw down the string to the nut.... Low e / a ... GET ONE NOW ! ! ! and install before you loosen the locking nut. Just install it so the string are right under the string tree... Just touching with the nut locked down..... When you're Installing it... Then adjust the height so when you lock the locking nut it stays in tune... If it goes sharp ... lower the string tree a little. Trick... look at the angle of the bottom of your locking nut.... the sting needs to go through the nut to the string tree without a bump or a curve and also be parallel to the head stock to the tuner pegs. So, it is not just the height.... the distance from the nut is based on the angle of the bottom of the locking nut......Then the holes on the turner pegs... The strings need to be parallel to the headstock and that height should be based on the peg hole in the tuner. and the angle of the bottom of the lock nut. These two are how you find the sweet spot on where to install the tree... I hope this helps. The Volume Knob ! ! ! ! YES.... LOL I too have the problem with the volume knob. It is just my playing style ... I know ... But I do hit it all the time..
@@DominionFretWorks Thanks for that info ! Yes that's extremely helpful and yes I understand exactly what your meaning by the angle the string is going into that nut. Makes perfect sense. I'll order one today ! This is a 42 mm nut on these correct ? I already ordered that black pick guard I mentioned earlier along with the 3 way switch so I can convert from HSS to HS. That will fit my playing style much better. It's nice to have 3 pups but I find that middle one gets in my way. I'm similar to you and do a good bit of pinch harmonics and I like to have that middle area free with nothing in my way. And yes , I had a Mexican strat a few years ago and I was always turning the volume down by accident lol. I'll solve that problem !!! Thanks for all you do my brother. I appreciate you !

I hear ya..... They can get sticky feeling. I know you can hit them with 1200G sand paper then wax them... If ya do this the sticking feeling goes away.
Many people out there seem to use #0000 steel wool to satinize their necks. Either way, it’s a relatively simple fix, if you don’t like glossy finish necks.
@@zuperdee I have gotten away from Steel Wool .... Only due to the pickups... in this case I don't think it would ever get on the other side and stick to the pickups... But.... I just stop using it. I know it works great and is easy to do with Steel Wool #1000 G
10 min job. Tape ends of neck, use extra fine grit sandpaper (some use steel wool), lightly sand some gloss off - in length wise direction, wipe dust off with moist cloth. Smooth as silk and looks great with a matte finish. Been doing that on painted necks for 30 years.

Probably need to sell off a few older ones so I can try some more🙂
And anyone reading this far…what are you waiting on…SUBSCRIBE …. You won’t find many channels that go into this kinda detail.
@@DominionFretWorks FF has these back online today along with their version of a Grohl 335…
@@CG-gf7ce Going now to check it out ! ! ! !
Thanks !
Camp ZW out there now. 7/22 9pm ET
The thing is, if you aren't gonna use active pickups, do not have any in there that give that perception. Just have a normal cover on them. I don't know why that's a pet peeve for me, but alas, it is.
Edit: Dang! Those pickups are just too hot!
ya...... I think this guitar broke records in the measuring pickup department . . . . LOL
BUT . . . . This is the first guitar that measured that high that the pickups really didn't sound MUDDY or Over Hot... The clean tone really is useable . . . Thats a first for me with that pickup reading.
Thanks for commenting and joining in on the topics in the review!
Real good sound!
Thank You.... Line 6 HX STOMP right in the mixing board...
Hi when u got this i didnt saw any on the site? guitargarden
This is a HARD ONE TO GET ! ! ! ! ! !
I have been trying to get this guitar for over a year.... When they come in stock, they are gone within a day or 2.
@@DominionFretWorks yes...i always check
too!!!
What is the neck like, ie, thick, thin?
It is a thicker neck 22.5mm at the nut and 25mm at the 12th.
43MM wide at the nut.
19:15, Measurements on the neck
this is the spot in the video where I go over the neck.
@@DominionFretWorks
Does it 'feel' much thicker than, say, a new Fender standard? The Fender is likely to be 20-22mm.
I can ship to you if you want one......Firefly may or may not bring it back.... You just don't know...
Let me know if you want me to check on shipping to you and total price to you!
@@DominionFretWorks thank you for that information, yeah I'd be interested in a price for the purple Strat my zip code is 72012.
@@devast8r3436 OK
USPS from Northern Va to 72012 is 37.00 on the pack and ship ONLINE.
most of the it is very close... The guys can inter in the dimensions ... a little off so I added .5 inches to all the sides.. Box weight @ 11.9 Pd/Oz.
I paid 219.00 + shipping ( 25.00 was the shipping to me )
So just about the same price... I also installed NYXL strings on the guitar and did a setup...
260.00 for the Guitar and shipping...
I will double cut everything on the guitar. It was re-boxed after review ...
I have an E-mail on my main page here on TH-cam . I think it's under contact.
Let me know something here...Post here that you have sent an E-mail.

I got so LUCKY ! ! ! !
about 4 weeks ago it was ordered... They were up for 1 day and then sold out !

@@sodapopkidd 6/29…check now they have been online this morning.
I've watch several of your videos. Your expectations for perfection on these budget guitars is unrealistic. If I buy a lower priced model I expect I will do some setup tweets to my taste!
Tweeks
You would think 20k would sound muddy for a nack pickup.
! ! ! YES.... LOL
I too have the problem with the volume knob.
With all due respect I would rather the buckethead firefly guitar.
I have seen the Buckethead Firefly LP.... another cool guitar they make ....
I like the odd models they come out with.
Thanks for commenting and putting a vote in for the Bucket head guitar review !
I don't care for painted necks.
I hear ya..... They can get sticky feeling.
I know you can hit them with 1200G sand paper then wax them... If ya do this the sticking feeling goes away.
@@DominionFretWorks 👍🏻😎
