- This video goes over Diluc's ancestry as well as his story throughout the game and manga up until the Hidden Strife event, focusing on his connections with his father, Kaeya, Alice, Jean and a few others.
Diluc's one of if not my #1 favourite character and having him get me from 1.0 all the way to Inazuma makes him hard to take off the top spot. He seems to be quite misunderstood but has a good heart and wants the best for people, even if he has a fiery temper at times. His connections with the Fatui and Abyss Order make me think he'll be really important in the story later on.
This video was delayed a lot due to waiting for his event and then the event filling in a lot of gaps which made me have to re-do it all haha so I hope it's an enjoyable one for you. I'm glad it's finally finished!

@@Ren_rz Yeah that miscellany video at the end was really interesting when Dain said that, I wonder if the Ragnvindr's have any connection to Khaenri'ah or their people in the past too with Kaeya being left at the Dawn Winery and Ragnvindr being a Norse name. I did wonder if they were of Murata's tribe too but I think just having red hair isn't really enough to make that connection right now.

Here’s a summarized version in a written form with additional info I found out myself:
Backstory:
Diluc was born and raised in Mondstadt by his father Crepus, a businessman who owned the winery which was called “Dawn Winery.” This place having grapes being harvested. He is apart of the Ragnvindr clan. His ancestor, Vannessa, who had sacrificed herself to free his other ancestors from slavery which was held in Mondstadt 1000 years ago. Has a child, Crepus raised Diluc to be a gentleman and taught him life skills, helping Diluc if he needed help. When Diluc was 10 years old, he had gained a pyro vision, which fueled Crepu’s wishes for Diluc to become a knights of favonius as he couldn’t. Regarding his father, Diluc obiliged and joined.
It wasn’t until Crepus ran into Kaeya one day, and brought him home as a kid as he felt bad he was all alone. Diluc, being raised to be a gentleman by his father, accepted Kaeya as a “brother” and that was when Kaeya was officially adopted into the Ragnvindr clan. Diluc and Kaeya were good brothers as kids, despite not being blood related.
As a KoF, he quickly rose in the ranks and became a superior and well-respected knight along Mondstadt, Known for his skill in combat and swordsmanship. He was known as the “youngest-ever Calvary Captain.” It is hinted that Kaeya may have also been apart of the knights as Crepu’s wishes, fighting alongside of Diluc at times during missions. At times, when his father would host banquets at Dawn winery, fathers would ask for Diluc to marry their daughters as he was both well-respected and a gentleman. But refused each time, as he was never interested. He had always admired the praises he got as a knight, but his father’s praise was all he needed, wanting to respect his fathers every wish.
It wasn’t until when Diluc had turned 18, his father wanted to show him something so they rode off in a wagon which Diluc drove. But unbeknownst to both of them, a dragon known as Ursa had attacked them. Crepus had used a pyro delusion to drive it away to protect Diluc. But, Crepus had used too much and had gotten side effects, causing him to die slowly. Crepus had asked Diluc his final request: to kill him. Obliging unwillingly, Diluc had killed his father to end his suffering. A day after, Diluc was called into Eroch’s office and informed that his fathers sacrifice wouldn’t be acknowledged as he was a businessman. Angered by this, Diluc instantly resigned and even left behind his pyro vision. Unbeknownst to him, young Amber had watched all of this.
It wasn’t until Kaeya had came to Dawn winery one day, which Diluc had inherited from his father, and confessed that he was left behind in Mondstadt to be a spy for Khaenri’ah when he was younger. The already agitated Diluc, attacked Kaeya and got into a duel to the death with him. After almost killing Kaeya, Kaeya had gained his Cyro vision which had saved him in time. Ever since, Diluc has had a rocky and strained relationship with Kaeya and disowned him as a brother. During this time, Kaeya had sent multiple letters to Diluc about Eroch being investigated and ultimately kicked out of the KoF and being known as a “traitor.”
It wasn’t until Kaeya had allowed Diluc to leave Mondstadt without grand master Varka knowing, as he would persuade Diluc to stay in one of these letters. Another letter, sent my Alice aka klee’s mother, was also sent to Diluc which stated that he should go out and travel Teyvat and praised him for his kindness when klee bombed his vine yard once but didn’t show any hostility, stating that he was much more gentle than he appears. Alice treated like Diluc her own, giving him a mother figure, which Diluc had allowed this and didn’t argue against it. Alice encouraged Diluc to leave Mondstadt and travel Teyvat, healing him as well mentally.
With regained confidence, Diluc left Mondstadt but instead, his goal was to take revenge on his father murders and to seek the truth. He eventually found out that the Fatui was behind the attack and also the creator of these delusions his father had used. Using his fathers delusion, he took down many Fatui strongholds throughout Teyvat. Whilist, the harbingers watched from the shadows until they had came on scene and attacked Diluc. Barely dodging death, Diluc was saved by a mysterious harbinger that was apart of a vast intelligence network, which was made by the wanders troupe 1000 years ago that was meant to protect Mondstadt from the shadows due to being known as being from the north of Teyvat. He was soon banned from Snezhnaya due to commiting genocide against their people.
Grand master Varka sent a letter throughout Diluc’s travels, stating that his father’s sacrifice would be acknowledged and give Jean full authority to punish Eroch for his actions. Kaeya sent a letter as well, stating that he’ll watch with a bottle of wine as Eroch packed his bags.
Taking time to heal and take control of his anger, Diluc took apart of this underground intelligence network himself fully and raised through the ranks with both his talents and past training as the youngest ever calvery captain. He became one of the leading members of this network and learned more about the abyss order.
Soon, he finally returned to Mondstadt after 4 years and reclaimed Dawn Winery once again from a maid who he had given permission of running it. He modified the ceremonial uniform his father had given him to instead use it against the abyss order and anything else that threatened Mondstadt, becoming known as the “Darknight hero” - a mysterious vigilante. He was quickly feared by those who were threats and became a rumor around Mondstadt. He worked with Albedo who gave him information about the Ley lines and abyss order while Albedo also speculated that certain beings in the abyss order could manipulate these ley lines if they were powerful enough. When the Fatui came over to Mondstadt and demanded to give up their children as payment for their “protection,” Kaeya and Diluc worked together to make sure the Fatui didn’t get what wanted. During this time, Diluc had gotten ahold of Dottore’s assistant to interrogate him as Darknight hero, but before he could, Dottore killed the assistant himself and taunted Diluc but didn’t attack when he noticed the delusion Diluc was using.
As the “black fire incident” was going on, Diluc took the blame from Collei for it as his delusions powers were similar to help the knights out. When the deen, the person who had experimented on Collei, arrived at Mondstadt to get Collei back, Diluc saved both Collei and amber from him and staged a fake fight against Kaeya. Allowing himself to be caught and taken by the Fatui soldiers and cleared the knights of any suspicion. He managed to escape the Fatui but left his fathers pyro delusion shattered and unusable behind as a message he’ll defeat the Fatui with out. After all this, Kaeya gifted Diluc a vase that contained Diluc’s old pyro vision that Kaeya kept safe during those 4 years he was away. Returning to use his vision, Diluc kept the identity “Darknight hero” and continues to keep Mondstadt safe.
Present day:
Diluc shifted Dawn winery into a stronghold for the underground intelligence program, which had given him information that was needed to protect Mondstadt. At times, he works at Angel’s share for the information and rumors that go around the tavern. He dislikes wine though, as due to his bush work schedule. During the day, he keeps the appearance of a wineowner meanwhile at night, he is known as the protector of Mondstadt and the “Darknight Hero.” He doesn’t get much sleep due to this as he works all night. And happily, Kaeya and Diluc made up it seems but argues like any siblings would do.
This is prediction of Diluc's role on the next patches.
*1)* Since he was basically banned from Snezhnaya, he can't go with us. However, he can give us information. From what we learned from his event, the clandestine organization is still active and is rebelling against the Fatui, this could be pivotal for the Traveller, since this show that not everyone agrees with the Tsaritsa's plans nor the Harbingers. And possible lead to a revolution.
*2)* Diluc and the others will remind Kaeya of his real home. Sure, he may had born from a heretic nation, and yet Mondstadt is the place that offered him an actual place to belong.
100% agree, I hope the organisation is built up a lot more to be at least able to deal with some of the Harbingers, quite exciting to imagine we might get Diluc's rescuer as a character way down the line if they do expand on it some more.
I think so too, with all the lore we have so far I can't see Kaeya betraying Mondstadt but I can see him being a sort of double agent, pretending to do what his father wants but secretly telling Diluc their plans or foiling them himself.

It's from the Archon quest Hidden Tears, Jean says "Hey Diluc, I heard that the Fatui have recently proclaimed you "persona non grata."

Actually they relationship is kinda better now.If you read the hidden letter is hidden strife you will know Kaeya send alot letter for Diluc,Diluc also reply to Kaeya.
I think the reason why Diluc is hating Kaeya so much infront of each other because the indenity of Darknight hero will be keep secret.No one will ever think the hateful brother Kaeya will hold the secret for the guy that always roasting him.
Here is how i think it will go:
*Diluc approaches Kaeya from the back*
*He puts his hand on his shoulder*
*He whispers in his ear*
"Fuck you"
*Diluc then proceeds to supplex Kaeya*

I really hope we get more Diluc and Kaeya and just more Mondstadt in general. I love new regions and exploring them is fun but there's just something about Mondstadt that makes it charming, probably because its the very first region.
One thing I was a bit sad about was that my 'what if Eroch is secretly a Harbinger?' theory died when the Hidden Strife event came out 🤣 But oh well, my theories are very rarely correct anyway at least its fun coming up with ideas. On another note I wonder if we'll run into any characters that work for that information network any time soon?
Yeah Mondstadt feels like home for me, even though I love exploring the new regions I feel the most closely connected with the characters from there. Haha well Eroch could've been working/spying for the Fatui at least, I don't think that'd be too wild of an idea with how much of an ass he was.
I'm really hoping we do run into some people from the information network soon, before this video I didn't pay them much attention but now I've got a bunch of ideas of how they could show up in the story. Really hope they build them up to be at least somewhat close to the level of the Harbingers.
You say that there’s conflicting information about Crepus’ death, however, the only source that I know of that says Diluc killed him was in Kaeya’s profile. It is likely that Kaeya was told the same lie that was given to all the knights made up, since Eroch’s goal overall was to make Crepus look less heroic. Diluc and the webtoon are _the best_ sources we have for this incident, and believing Kaeya’s side even though he showed up late and didn’t witness anything is just… odd.
I do agree that the Delusion most likely killed him but with Kaeya showing up just afterwards and being close to Diluc I thought I'd include that the conflicting information exists just to be thorough.
Thanks for sharing!!! I had no idea his intelligence agency was connected to the Wanderer's troupe!! Diluc really is one of those characters who comes across initially as a complete square, but the more you dig into him the more complicated he gets.
I really hope we get to see a cutscenes of Kaeya and Dilucs falling out and reconciliation.
I'm so afraid that one of them is going to become a future Hu Tao client shortly after they actually talk to each other though. These boys are terrible at communication fhdhdhs
It's not 100% confirmed but I think it's pretty likely considering the information we have about it. I really do love his lore too, he seems to be quite a misunderstood character from what I've seen so it was nice the new event blatantly stated he's actually quite a gentle person.
Same, this event giving us a bunch of info and no footage was a bit annoying for making a video haha, same can be said for a bunch of the lore though I guess.
I get the feeling they're getting closer again now so I really do hope they have a talk at some point or maybe get a scare for them to finally become like close brothers again but yeah, I'm not sure I see it happening anytime soon haha.

Thank you for this!! Diluc has been my favourite since I first met him in the game (Kaeya was my favourite until then, so he's now my second favourite and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KAEYA for today 😊). I've been playing nearly 2 years and am STILL WAITING to get Diluc! His passion for justice is what I loved about him, and when I was on my daughter's account (she's had him probably since she was early in the game which she started 3 months before I did - she's the one who got me into the game), I read his voice lines and fell in love with him even more. Thank you also for the transcription - my mind wanders a lot while I watch videos so having the transcription is awesome. Fantastic video, you really got all the lore in there! I think his future role will first be related to that shadowy organisation that saved him but ultimately it would make sense for his character arc to conclude alongside Kaeya's, considering the narrative importance having been placed on their position as mostly-estranged brothers who ultimately still care for each other. Frequently where you find one, you also find the other, both in lore and in events haha. So I reckon either he'll be instrumental in swaying Kaeya's loyalty to the side of Mondstadt, or one or the other (or both?) will indeed end up sacrificing themself in the prospective conflict between Mondstadt/Teyvat and Khaenriah. I've seen people compare them to the ancient friendship of Rostam and Arundolyn, so it would make sense for their fates to be similarly tragic, especially if Genshin wants to take their tone a bit darker, like Honkai. Thanks again for making this, it's great to have all Diluc's scattered lore collected succinctly like this :)

Making this video made me think of the organisation a bit more again and I get the feeling this event was slowly setting us up for the appearance of one of the more important members, maybe just wishful thinking though haha. Yeah the connection between Kaeya/Diluc and Rostam/Arundolyn has got to be on purpose with the similarities between them. I think there's a lot of themes of history repeating itself throughout the lore but it's not something I've made any solid connections to yet, maybe something to do with constellations carrying people's will/soul or something? Glad you liked the video, was a pleasure to make for one of my favourite characters.

My favorite theory about Diluc is his mother being a hexenzirkel witch. I really like the idea that Alice may be friends with his mom for some reason. Anyway, I LOVE DILUC SO MUCH❤❤

Aside from "sworn" brothers and not "ADOPTED" brothers part, (English mistranslations as per usual), I appreciate the whole video regardless, I am new to genshin, and I have been trying to learn more lore about all the characters now that I am close to finishing sumaru.
Good video, but correction. Kaeya is not considered an adoptive brother, this is a mistranslation from the English localization team. Kaeya and Diluc were consiered more like “Fraternity brothers” or like “Brothers from another mother,” but not necessarily adopted.
Ah yeah true, I think the use of the word adopted can cause a bit of confusion too since some people use it in the legal sense and others use it in a more colloquial way as a way to say "took care of" which is the way I intended. Appreciate the clarification!
