I've put a lot of details about my landrace chicken breeding project in the description, in lieu of a more drawn out talking head video. Be sure to check the description for details about these breeds, my breeding project, and how I feed my birds without money. And be sure to subscribe, if you haven't already, to see how this project develops over time. Have suggestions for other breeds that match the goals of my project? Drop them in the comments so I can research them further!
Thanks! Welsummers are one other breed I know I want to add into the mix, but the hatchery didn't have any dates where all 4 breeds were available. Oh well. This'll be a good start. 🙂
Hybrid chickens are so incredible. It's amazing how smart and hardy and flourishing they can become as they get that hybrid vigor! The purebred hens I have accumulated in the past never Foraged or sheltered from predators as well as the 2nd and 3rd generations hybrids. The hybrids I've had also layed more consistently and deeper into winter and longer through their life. I would always reccomend people allowing their flock to mix and hybridize
Nice! I can't wait to see how it turns out! I keep dreaming about quail, which would be more appropriate for the size of my yard, but I haven't gotten to that point just yet. Maybe in a year or two!
