  • A long time in the making, but well worth the wait. A big thanks to July, for putting it all together. Great to work with Reinaldo for the first time also. Always a great honor and pleasure to work with Tim and July. Special thanks also to my brother Jim for filling in on the keyboards when we were without. Enjoy!

      Yeah, Tim is great. He should have been singing with Yes, instead of the guy they have now. Tim sounds more like Jon.

    If Tim Wardle were singing for YES today, maybe the Anderson acolytes would be silent. He sounds just like Jon Anderson. And the whole thing is impressive as hell. Thanks for posting! YES fan for 50 years.

      Agreed! We were VERY fortunate to have Tim sing for us on these Yes videos. FYI, he also plays guitar, (see 'And You And I' collab) and sings baritone on a Jethro Tull collaboration we did!

    Wow! Such an amazing rendition of this classic song. I've listened to it and seen YES play it live countless times, but what is so incredible is to see the musicianship up close and personal. You are all so talented to be able to match the original so well. I can't think of any higher praise than that! And of course, it shows how brilliant YES were, too. Many thanks! More please!

      Thanks, Mike! I did another Yes collab with July, our guitarist here. When we did 'Yours is no Disgrace' July arranged it so that it was part "live" and part studio. But the really amazing thing is the middle guitar jam wherein he combined bits from 4 different concerts. You should check that one out. It's July's masterpiece, imo.

    the attention to detail is quite impressive down to the instrument choices and again, a vocal performance worthy of the work - not always the case! Nothing quite like cranking that Wurm outro and you guys just gave it a life of its own! Amazing work and brilliant song choice as usual! nothing easy on this performance and the drum/bass rhythm is just so solid throughout

    Damn Dave !!!, The was Freak'n Fantastic it sounds like it could be an unreleased cut from their vault back in the day ! I really enjoyed this on a lot, you play great and with your own touches here and there I got the Drummer's ear for that : D Your Brother really gets into it I love that ! ( What's his shampoo ? Lol) The singer Tim is like a young Anderson clean and clear voice, I just love Reinaldo's Bass Rick sound, the delay, reverb and tone is just right and the Bass pedals for that part was great (so many YT bands I see miss that) And July's guitar work is amazing also, I am still amazed each day of all the talented musicians in the world it is great. Some of you guys just got to break out with a super Prog bad and tour WE need this !!!! I know I do. I'm sure most of you are in bands. Well Damn that was good Dave, Thanks for doing these so much. : ) Oh who has more gear you or Jim ??? : D

    Wow. I don't recognize any of those keyboards. Well. Hmmm. That has to be the Yamaha CS-80. And there's a Korg T3 in there. But there's that super cool one at 1:47. What is that?

    The Phaser is strong with this one.

    The photo at the end shows Rick Wakeman, whereas Tony Kaye was in fact on keyboards. Thoroughly enjoyable rendition, well played. I love this number. Please cover more from albums one to seven.

      Thanks Mike. You're right. Good catch! (I never really noticed that.) We've done 'And You and I' and 'Yours is no Disgrace' with this line-up. And I've done collaborations with Tim on vocals and other musicians on No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed; Then; a shortened version of Ritual (from Tales); and Shoot High Aim Low from the later Big Generator album, (which I was not really a fan of.) If you haven't seen them, you can find them under my Yes playlist. I also completed my drum parts for Close to the Edge two years ago, but I'm still waiting for everyone else to finish up their parts! Hopefully, that will be the next Yes collaboration I can post.

    Great job as always, Dave. This has to be one of your 'easier' songs to play on but damn, the engineering that went into producing it is quite an accomplishment. It's one of my all time favorite songs. All musicians played quite well and Tim's vocals were excellent, particularly since Jon is just so hard to replicate. I was fortunate to see ARW about a month ago and it was a great show. Best to you and your family. Thank you for sharing.

    oh. my. god. i almost hate daring to comment on this one, perfection was achieved. instrumentally and vocally perfect; the only tweak i'd have suggested would be amping up renaldo's bass; crank it up to 11 or something. gotta feel it in my bones, if you know what i mean.

    • @17drums

    I've got to give you guys credit for doing a nice job with this, but I have to say that IMO the studio version of Starship Trooper is clearly superior to this Yesssongs live version. I'm a die-hard YES fan and I _always_ recommend that people listen to the studio versions of their masterpieces _first_ before checking out the live recordings. I just wanted to share that opinion...

    • @17drums
      @17drums  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I too, always appreciate the studio versions over the live ones. But since the project was designed by July, the guitar player, I had no input as to the arrangement. I was simply asked to supply the drum parts--for which I am grateful.

    Focus on t he Drummer a bit more, he seems very faithful to Bruford's original work, and Bill seemed to had been having a ball playing on this song.

    • @17drums
      @17drums  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Joey! I tried to play it the way Bruford did, as closely as possible. There are a couple of slight deviations however.

  • @richardball8365
    @richardball8365 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nicely played and sung, but what's with the the lyrics? They're very wrong in places and almost sound made up. Or is this a cover of a version I've not heard before, from, say, a live album or something?

    • @timwardle6575

      Indeed it was, the lyrics were from different live shows i have seen over the years. Thanks tim.

    TBH the 1. part - full of vocals - is a bit unpleasent for my ears and soul. (I never liked the voice of Anderson.) But the 2., instrumental part! Hey Dave! That,s excellent!!! I enjoyed very much the whole, but must mention: the top is the keyboarder's solo! I have listened to that at once twice. He is a very good guy, keep him!

    • @17drums
      @17drums  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks George, on behalf of my brother, the keyboard player! Whoever July was planning on using initially on keys dropped out of the project. My brother was a last-minute fill-in for us, and bailed us out! (He also did a great job, so it probably worked out much for the better).

      I'm hoping that it is. I've heard some preliminary mixes. I've tried to keep my drum parts as close to the original Bruford. I posted a drum cover of my parts to this over a year ago. So you can see how long these projects can drag on!

      Nah. On the ELP front, we're trying to do the entire Karn Evil 9 suite first. We have Rachel's keys for both parts of the 1st Impression, as well as the 2nd Impression. Finishing those up will probably take years before we can even start on the 3rd Impression.
