- In this tutorial I will show you how to program your first midi effect.
A midi effect with which the user can edit the pitch and velocity.
We start with the midi effect init, use a midi parse to display the notes as a list, use an unpack to make two numbers from the list. Then we filter out the "0", since the 0 is the note-off command at the velocity. Then we insert the "+" patcher and use the live.numberbox, with which the user can enter numbers. With a spit object we filter out the values that are too high. In the end we use the object midi format to roll our list back again. Sounds complicated, but it is not :)

This is a great tutorial for MaxForLive. Very clear, slowly and easy to understand.
This is is an excellent tutorial. It covered exactly what I needed: How to transform certain MIDI data by building a MIDI effect with Max for Live. It was very easy to follow. 25 minutes well spent :-) Thanks a lot!
alredy watched 3x hahha is hard to find content for MaxForLive, thanks!
Thanksss!! Clean Lesson for MaxForLive
Fantastic tutorial, thank you!
thank you! watching this to help with my university course
unfortunately if we select a note number on the Pitch box and play a few notes on the controller it doesn't send a midi off note (0) to the corresponding note. thus make the synth sustaining nonstop.
I can't believe how few subscribers you have! Keep it up, you will be huge! Thanks so much ❤️
Hi Thomas!, thanks for the tutorial!
I think i did something wrong, because after i 'finished', when i change the pitch on the number box, it does changes the pitch but it also changes de duration of the programmed note... i was wondering, what could it be?
Also, thanks again, this demonstration was very enlightening for me and i will keep watching and following your videos.
Thank you so much!
Domingo.
amazing video, thanks I have learned a lot!
15:48 - he's sending a bang and a bang and a bangity bang; bang, bang, bangity bang
Vielen Dank! Du bist den Mann!
Hey, I’m searching for a solution to allow midi In data on a track only when this track or the upper track ( in case this track is in a group) is on solo.
Is there any helpful midi effect that I can build with max?
Background: I’m playing live with a setup where every song is a track ( or a track-group). Incoming Midi data is on every channel, although I Can’t hear every track due to the solo switched track. This midi data on every track is a heavy load for the cpu. I want to come down the cpu load, because in one setup with approx 12 songs ( and appr. 30 tracks) the cpu is coming to a limit.
Greatings ✌️
Thank you!!🙏Is there a way to send the Midiout from the patch also to other midi tracks in Ableton?
Very interesting vidéo Thanks
I can make an LFO with this?
Can you make a tutorial on How to receive OSC data from the iPhone?
Lara Sophie Kebsak great idea,
Yes I will!!!
@@ThomasFostermusicproduction that would be great, would really appreciate that!
Is it possible to build a synthesizer with max for live?
Männer ohne Grenzen
Yes it is, and I will make a tutorial on it :)
Hi Thomas.
Great tutorial.
If the velocity is set to 0 shouldn't there be no sound?
The dial is adding the output to the original velocity.
So for example, if the original velocity is 30 and the dial is set to 5, the output velocity is 35.
I deleted the velocity split and plus object, and replaced them with a 't 0' , then connected that to a new plus object.
That seems to work.
Thanks again
What shortcut do you use, when you are adding new objects?
