I notice that when a player who's main guitar is a strat, when they play an entirely different guitar it seems to coax a little something extra that you just don't normally do. +andrew broadhead Fender guitars in general make you work harder
to get what you want from them (especially Teles), but the reward is
also greater for the player. When you go to a Gibson after a Strat or Tele,
it's like being let put of jail! Gibson guitars play much easier and it seems
like you can reach places on the fretboard not usually in reach if you're
used to Fenders. And it is true. I think that's why long time Fender guys
feel more adventurous on an easier playing guitar, like a Gibson. I grew
up on Gibsons and when I got my first Strat, it took a while to under-
stand the differences and let a Strat be a Strat. You gotta work it. Now
when I play a Gibson it feels luxurious and smooth. But I'm a Strat guy
forever, at this point. They make you better because they're not easy!
I know you get what I'm saying.

@@larrygeetar9309 totally know Larry, I played heavy rock /metal for 20 years on ibanez guitars, then just got tired of it all. After a few years off I started playing again and wanted to make a total change to my approach and sound so not to get stuck in the same old ruts. SRV and strat solved that for sure, the fenders are a bit of a fight but I like it and a strat certainly gets more out of me. I payed an ibanez not long ago and it felt like a very fast car that I just didn't want to drive
anymore, it just felt sterile, you know what I mean right 🎸👍enjoy your strat pain Larry

Good stuff. However, there could be a more impassioned way of reviewing this guitar. As an owner of an all original 66 myself, one could further say it's just fucking mindblowing. It changed my life. I swear this thing rarely goes out of tune and yet I play it all the time. The PAF's never let me down, the neck is flawless, and It just looks so good as well. BTW I'm a huge fan of that trapeze/nylon saddle that is notable on a 66. Some consider these to be lesser traits. In short, with all the sweat, blood, and abuse this thing has had, it still holds like it will never die. I encourage every guitar player from around the world to find a way to own a vintage gibson 335. They are going up in value and it's for a damn good reason.

  • @ganaorganador

Nice chops man!!! Great tone- It's great to hear someone do justice to an instrument like this. I also own a 335- except for the heavy weight and zero balanced body- I totally love it. Gibson changed by mid 90's the pots to 300k instead of 500K. In my opinion the 300K are pure glory as they are warmer and richer sounding, instead of the 500k's- which have a higher output that sometimes end up being too bright and harsh- But well... it's a matter of taste. People who owns a Gibson and it's not a vintage-don't-you-ever-dare-to-make-a-mod one I recommend to try the 300K's in the volume knobs, it only get's better for me. Kudos man!

Such an interesting tonal voice - not just darker but richer with higher output than a fender without losing as much definition as some les paul's can. Great collector piece you certainly won't lose your loot on an instrument like that.

  • @DunsfoldDave
    @DunsfoldDave 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Your comment about neck pups. I have two modern Les Paul’s, a Collector’s choice no 8 (the beast) and an aged 2016 58 true historic. The true historic pups have lower output and the bridge pup is so much more muddy than the burstbuckers in the beast which basically sounds like a souped up Tele. The neck pup has loads of clarity. I’ve always said that you’re not a real guitarist until you get a 335, I’ve not reached that point yet but I keep trying them, one day I’ll pull the trigger on one.

Chris: I have both a 335 and 339. The 335 is a 2014 w/'57 Classics. The Gibson sticker inside the body of the 339, with the serial number, says 2019. The 339 has a number only serial number on the back of the headstock, and barely legible, made in USA. It was also advertised at the guitar shop as a 2019. The 339 has MHS humbucker pickups, so I assume is was manufactured in Memphis. Both sound superb and the difference is so subtle I am hard pressed to discern a difference. I prefer the smaller sized 339, as the heavier bodied 335 has a tendency to cause the neck to swing upwards. I am constantly having to push the guitar down level, while playing, its disconcerting.

C.J. Blake Hey C.J. Thank you man! I wouldn’t go so far as to say I don’t notice, but it never bothers me. Funnily enough, I was having this conversation yesterday with the owner of a ‘56 Strat with a really pronounced V profile neck (next week’s episode...). For me, being a good musician is about being able to adapt to your circumstances and getting the best of them. Yes, this ‘66 has a pretty thin neck and yes, I’d probably prefer a 50s profile, but part of the fun for me is drawing the best out of situations that aren’t 100% to your liking 🙂

Hi Chris, I just found out about your channel recently and I have been hooked ever since on your beautiful guitar tone (hence I'm going to buy your signature pickups). I noticed that in nearly all of your guitar pedal demo video's, you seem to use Guitar Rig software for your basic amp tone. Do you think we will ever see a video of your Guitar Rig software setup? Thanks.

Gerry Daly Thank you so much Gerry! And definitely; just sorting out a better audio interface and there’ll be a GuitarRig video coming very soon 🙂

Saw JD Simo some time ago, check him out if you don't know him. Amazing player and singer. He was using his 1962 ES-335 through a Fender Super Reverb, no pedals except a Wah and sometimes a fuzz. INSANE tone! For the last song he had to switch to his backup 335, which was some sort of custom shop thingy, which sounded noticably worse, less woody and more "sterile", if that makes sense.

I had a 66 335 and it was worth the hype. Best guitar I had in my 63 years. I've owned over 30 guitars.
