Great ideas, I hope they get plenty of support and stay viable.
I do like the idea of local maricultured corals tho.
This is when small nations protect reefs but at the same time allow local people to gather SMALL frags to be grown in onsite facilities.
This makes the reefs a valuable commodity in their eyes.
    Results-
    Local people protect the reef.
Fishermen can still make a living.
Hobbyists can get a wide range of corals.
    The on-site facilities provide jobs.
    The communities get educated.

I support decreasing the amount of corals taken out from nature. I will tell you something very cool about my country: In colombia I dare to say at least 50%-70% of euphyllias…100% easy lps (Duncan, favias, acans, micromussa, caulastrea, even blastos) 100% acroporas and 100% zoanthids are cultivated by local aquarists. Since our hobby is not regulated here, hobbysts had to learn very well the art of fragment and grow corals without the necessity of importing, prices are very friendly too because if that same reason. Cool huh 👍. Thank you very much for visiting and sharing this amazing place.

Captive breeding of corals and marine fish is the future of this hobby. Hawaii has stopped all collection for the aquarium trade. I would be shocked if they ever reopen for collection. It's very likely that other collection areas in the world will follow suit.

Yes, Hawaii is very smart doing this. People there STILL can KILL (repeat: KILL) tons of fish/year for food. Incoherent decision made by vegan lobby, against aquarium industry.
By the way, the most aquarium fish captured in Hawaii is the Yellow Tang, for decades. What do you think happened to Yellow Tang population in Hawaii? Yes, that´s exactily what you thought: the fish population INCREASED!!!

I was concerned about the impact of collecting corals from the reef as I’m a hobbyist and live in Australia. It turns out that all the collectors combined is the equivalent to only 40 extra parrot fish eating coral on the reef. And this is spread out over 1000’s of km. Also after snorkelling on the Ningaloo reef recently there’s no way you could collect enough to make an impact.

Yes & over in Indonesia collection for the hobby is insignificant vs the scale reefs are destroyed by certain fishing techniques, pollution, construction etc. I still agree collection should remain heavily regulated & hope they eventually manage the real problems that are destroying their reefs although at least some of it seems to be caused by China & is beyond their control.

Not all fishes can be tank raised and some fishes are group spawners and most inverts are just impossible to breed. We need to make a balance between wild caught and aquacultured specimens. BTW big fan 🌹 love from India 💙

Wild catches should continue as they can be a sustainable harvest for peoples in their areas. Cultured has a place too. The reality is that the aquariums are _not_ the problem and represent only a teeny-tiny taking from the sea. The real problem is transport ships, vehicles, fisheries and pollution. Those are the problems ghat are unsustainable and need fixing.
