Mid 70's and settling in for an evening of light-hearted entertainment with Jethro Tull. The back up band takes the stage. "What's this?" We all wondered. She was light on her feet and her voice was simply sublime. The band was a wonderful combination of Scottish, Irish, and English folk music with a rock and roll kick. We were all mesmerized as their music filled the air. They were training our ears for something entirely new yet traditional. And we say THANK YOU to Steeleye Span.
I think that this Group and this track in particular are/is one of those that will stand the test of time and become even more popular in years to come, when all the modern day crop of X Factor type manufactured shite will be long forgotten !!
I met Maddy Prior last night ...and i was star struck ...she is a wonderful person. Ive never been so moved ... she wished me luck with my Music Degree .... i love you Maddy Prior
I've got this album in a box in the loft. What total joy this sound. Hell Maddy is good, she can give all of the modern girls, like Hayey Westenrath etc a run for their money.
People try to write how this folk singer or that folk singer is better etc. Sure the other girls have angelic voices suited to a princess singing out of a tower but Maddys depth and tone carry this whole period.
The fiddle player is Peter Knight,a friend of my dad. The drummer is Liam Genocky,a really nice guy from my home town. The rest of the band is original.
Superb write-up by Park Records, adding to the distinction of this recording. As for the audience participation: was that a trained Choir? First-class.
Tim Hart was phenomenal. Sadly missed! On drums is Liam Genockey. Then we have from our left: Peter Knight, Maddy Prior, Ken Nicol and Rick Kemp. Hope that helps.
Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat/ very good song band Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat look nederland play Steeleye Span - lochomen meets eric burdon& band 1976 good bey where kom you amsterdam Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat
TBH I got a bit teary eyed when the audience was singing - it felt like British or perhaps English people ( I know, I know it’s probably an Irish song) were celebrating something more than just a great song sung well - a something which seems to be increasingly disparaged or downright condemned in the ‘bien pensent’ chattering circles of leafy north London and the groves of Academe or the Guardian ‘newspaper ‘as being ‘nationalistic’ or ‘ethnocentric ‘. I guess it’s just not multicultural enough . . .

Hats off for Maddy she improves with age..just as enticing and enchanting as she was in the 70's😃
Loved this......... still do!
Maddy still has that heavenly voice, and if anything, they are even better musicians than they were back in my youth, when this song was a hit.

Maddy Prior is truly superb, she is beautiful and radiates warmth and the confidence befitting a talent such as hers.
One of the few singers who still sounds great with some years behind them.

English song nicked by the IRA and turned into a rebel song.
Not every folk song is Irish or God forbid 'Celtic'.

Elle a vraiment gardé la voix de ses 20 ans. Magnifique!!! Et les autres n'en sont pas moins remarquables.
You certainly still have the most beautiful voice Maddy! Sounds as good as it was 40 years ago. I bet Britney wont even live that long!!!

Maddy is an amazing front man!! She's always so cheerful!!

very good song. please could you upload Dark Morris
Are any of these people the originals who played this in the original videos of the mid 70's. I'm especially curious about the fiddle player.
I agree! Great band it was.
Tim Hart apparently died in 2009 from cancer.
Is that Nigel Pegrum on drums? And who's the guitar player here?
Folk-Rock is Steeleye Span, the rest are "All around their hats"!
They get better with age...
Maddie Prior rocks!
UK answer to Judith Durham beautiful voice.
Maddie you are fantastic! XXXXXXXX
Maddy Prior, Annie Haslam and Judie Tzuke three greatest female singers ever.
LostInThePast123 Sandy Denny not get a mention?

English rose.
The first thing to go in those bands that stay together for 20, 30, or 40 years is the lead singer's vocal cords. Not in this case. Not hardly.
Strange she did not waltz around the audience
Maddy Prior .. this time she adds a different shout ..
