    I clean my saws after every tree job. It seems a little cleaning goes along way to keep your saws running well thanks for the video I’ve learned so much watching

      Amazing how long a saw will last when someone takes care of it too.

    Love this content. They're so expensive, so information concerning these saws mean the world to me. Much appreciated man. Keep it coming😁

    Thank you for a master class in maintenance of a 201; which I have just bought. It’s a used one that seems to be running well but I’m sure needs everything you have shown me! The one issue I have is the kill switch isn’t working but I’ve been told it could be that the contact area is just packed with debris.

    I wash sprocket covers after each use - kitchen sink, hot water and Dawn. I blow them off, afterwards. My saw friends make fun of me, saying my saws are to clean and they are, but mine do not end up in a shop for repair, either.

    I’ve white lithium grease on sprocket bearings. I lube mine at least once a year, according to how much I used it. It may turn into a biannual lubrication on a high use saw. I always lube them after five ranks of gas on a new saw, as part of my break-in maintenance. I clean the sprocket and clutch at the same time.

    Edit! Sorry, I was wrong. I have the T. Not this TC. I knew cuz you were very specific about the air filter cover, and that doesn’t look like my air filter cover! 2:10. I just had to replace the springs on my clutch for this saw(edit, mine is a ms 201 t.)and because the piston stay I had was for my 044, (yes, I have a factory 044, and I’m the second owner), cuz I only had my hand wrench, I had to improvise, and put the string I have on my string trimmer down in there! 😆Did the trick. Got all the springs off with needle nose, and got the new ones on with same tool. I was pretty proud of myself!🌸🌿3:00. Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised that the holes have no stretching at all! And I have been pretty brutal with this saw! 5:25. And when I was trying to get the first spring in, one of the thirds of the clutch slipped out, and I was shook, cuz in my 200, I had to replace the kill switch wire more than five times, and that assembly in the handle scared me so much! Luckily the third slipped right back in!😆🌿🌼

    Hey Richard. Thanks for posting these videos I have learned so much from watching. Do you have any videos on how to clean a chain saw chain. I have been cutting a few silver maple trees in my area and the chains seem to be getting full of gunk wanted to take them off and clean them up really good before sharpening. Thanks

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  ปีที่แล้ว

      LA Awesome from Dollar General is a great degreaser and its cheap. At full strength keep it away from aluminum tho. I soak the extra dirty chains in a shallow to-go container and use a brush, then use the hose to wash off the ugly. Gasoline will clean anything and fast, just need to be more careful, if you catch my drift.

  • @Gabriel_Moline

    20:26. You didn’t choke the carburetor. The tree fibers have gotten inside. I’m sure, tho, you evacuated that as well.

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  ปีที่แล้ว

      The choke butterfly has a hole in it so it can run on full choke for reset/recalibration. It being choked would not have sealed off the carb. However, the intake is shielded by the plastic piece that has the lockdown stud for the cover. Air comes in from the bottom of that plastic piece.

    Have a ms 201tc that does when used on its side. Local shop “could not duplicate the issue. Took it home and immediately had the issue reoccur. Any ideas?

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean dies when on its side, then I'd do a pressure and vacuum test. You may have to flex the top handle while it's being tested. It's possible that there may be a small crack in the intake manifold or pulse line. Less likely, you may have a frayed wire under the front part of the top handle that's grounding out when the top handle flexes.

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 201's are prone to this. I haven't seen this problem on any other model.

    Hi Richard….
    I wonder if you can you help me out with one of these chainsaws. I have two. One works normal.
    The other one; first it would start and idle down to shutting off. I exchanged carburetor with the working one and it does same thing.
    A service tech recommended me change the oil
    seals. I did and after that, it does not start. I thought of removing the muffler and started right up with out it. So then I took the carburetor off the working one and installed it and it won’t start. I take the it’s original muffler
    and put mount it into the working one and it works fine.
    I cleaned both and retried but same thing it does not fire up. But as soon as I remove the muffler it starts right up. I’m puzzled!
    The problem one has over 75psi compression.
    What could it be the issue ?
    Your input is appropriated!

    • @richardflagg3084
      @richardflagg3084  ปีที่แล้ว

      Even if the piston is scored you should have about 100psi, new they should be about 140ish. How does the piston look? Make sure the spark plug is tight. Without having the saw in front of me it's hard to tell what the real issue is.

      Thank you for your quick reply!
      I got it to work! Just before reassembling and giving up for the night, I thought of swapping spark plugs, although they are identical number NGKs, and it fired up! The working saw worked with the “bad” saw’s plug. Swapped back one more time and the “bad saw” does not start up. So I swapped them again and now both saw
      Start up and working great!
      Weird!

    Not likeing,my new 201t .but it's not broken in or close yet .however being injured Older and small nothing beats that little echo modified. Can't imagine a ported echo the balance and side handle angle is superior in everyway, to rest of top handles mine cuts great up to 12 14 inches it'll cut bigger just not as fast but in medium average size tree tops it's first Pick .doesn't hurt the arm hands like a block .wish they would make a computer version .36cc top handle .husky battery saw out cuts all of them and is balanced better than stihl but I don't like battery or the sound .but it runs.sold mine buddy uses it in his bucket truck and takes down whole tree on 2 battery s with it.

      Hey man weird problem here, ms201tcm fires right up and will stay running, but I squeeze the throttle and it won’t even rev up much at all you can hear it wanting to but it just won’t and it’s not bogging like starving for fuel and stalling, it’ll keep letting you attempt to gain power from it without sounding like it’ll shut off due to starving from fuel, there’s also no air leaks, pressure tested and vaccine tested
      I changed spark and fuel filter is new, I have also tried resetting carburetor witch I’ve done multiple times because I’ve bought new carbs before so I know how to reset carb no problem.
      Please if you got any info for me that will be appreciated
      Btw I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to mechanics on 2 cycles and 4 cycles so feel free to speak shop talk I will understand
      Thanks

      @@Wakeupdud3 Let's start with a couple of simple things. Does it run the same with and without a bar and chain? Is the spark arrestor still in the muffler? It may be clogged with carbon. Is the new spark plug a genuine NGK CMR6H and is the crush washer seated? Take the fuel filter off and pressure test (5-6psi) the fuel line and carb. Do you know which version MTronic you have? It makes a difference, to do the proper reset/recalibration? If it's Version3 then a recalibration should be performed vs. a reset. If the carb and coil is original to the saw then it should be easy. A white solenoid would be a strong indicator you have a V3. To be positive you'll need to identify it by the number on the ignition coil/module. All that being said, sounds like you have a mechanical issue not an electronic issue.

    • @Wakeupdud3

      @@richardflagg3084 have not tried without bar
      Just pressured tested to 6psi from filter line in gas tank , it’s remaining there has been for 5min now
      I burned off all carbon in muffler looks brand new, I deleted the spark arrestor screen long time ago.
      Carb is 1145/22A 920L with white solenoid chainsaw is in really great shape so is the cylinder and piston no carbon buildup or scratches of any kind
      Handle assembly is one month old
      Have not had any repairs done to this saw recently all parts are stock from day of purchase except for the handle assembly which is one month old
      New air filter, spark plug came from ms201tc kit from dealer and it’s what you listed NGK that’s all I use for spark plugs and I never re-use spark plugs if I ever take it off I always replace regardless if it has spark or not to eliminate the chance of leaking
      Thank you for such a quick response I really appreciate it
