This is an amazing power of audio-video recording technology, that we can use it to have a direct contact with the pure devotee of Lord Krishna.
What if the same technology was present during Lord Krishna's presence on this planet, we would have been able to directly watch and hear the pastimes of the Lord, without any change. But, the same pastimes were already recorded, not by movie cameras, but in the form of spiritual transmission within the heart and aural reception, and later they were transferred in the book form (as in Kali-yuga the memory became shorter and more defective). So, in either case we have the exact recordings of Lord Krishna pastimes, and they were given to us by the non-causal mercy of Srila Prabhupada, through the disciplic succession of liberated (unmotivated) spiritual masters.
The message of Srila Prabhupada is recorded in audio, video, and books form. Srila Prabhupada gave more stress on books, because the books are more accessible then other media, but he was also aware of the technological advancement so he made recordings for the new media also. One good advantage of modern media is that it is hard or almost impossible to make any changes like in the books (as is the case from the history of the Bible, and also recent changes of Srila Prabhupada's books within ISKCON). As we can see Lord Krishna's intelligence is marvelous.
This is the mission of acaryja. To preserve the knowledge in all possible ways for all generations to come. And with the help of modern technology, starting with books, a direct oral reception cannot be the only means to receive transcendental knowledge, as it used to be during Vedic times. The times have changed, but we don't have time to wait for some miracle to happen. Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada are still here on this planet.
