Punkrock, garagepunk
The Mummies are an American garage punk band formed in San Bruno, California, in 1988. Exhibiting a defiantly raw and lo-fi sound, dubbed "budget rock", the Mummies' rebellious attitude and distinctive performance costumes exerted a major influence on garage punk and garage rock revival acts later in the decade, as well as in the 1990s. Their recorded output was intentionally completed with poor, cheap equipment.
The vinyl bootleg of The Mummies' recording sessions with Mike Mariconda which were meant to make up the band’s debut LP (to be released on Crypt). The story is that The Mummies had wanted Billy Childish to produce but when that proved impossible, for unknown reasons, label boss Tim Warren sent his friend, Mariconda (ex of The Raunch Hands). This didn’t go down well with the band and they weren’t happy with the results. Neither, it seems, was Tim Warren, as he shelved the tapes.
"Eventually they leaked. Initially on the Fuck The Mummies CD (a Long Gone John project from which the band never saw any cash) and on this vinyl release (an unofficial Get Hip release from which they did pick up some cash). (For the full story, have a read of Eric Davidson’s garage punk book, We Never Learn).
"There’s no doubt that Never Been Caught made a much better debut than this would have done; this is too clean, but it is definitely worth listening to."
The Mummies are a force to be reckoned with.
Never heard of this band before, found this by chance. Glad I did!!!
Fuck! How did I miss these guys during the late 80’s and through the 90’s? Maybe because I was playing in my own band, and if you didn’t play shows with a band, then you missed them because no one had time for anything. What a kick ass band and sound. The nailed it. You can never get this sound in a pro studio. It’s like the misfits old recordings are legendary, but the later non Danzig version sounded boring with the modern sound.
a friend of mine got me this bootleg for my birthday one year. It was my favorite recording by them. The others didn't sound same after listening to this. I 🖤the Mummies
If I were a professional wrestler, my entrance song would be this version of "Your Ass (Is Next in Line)," and I would come out dressed not as a Mummy, but as a greaser in a leather jacket, jeans, and engineer boots. For special events, such as pay-per-views and supercards, I'd drive out onto the entrance ramp in Red Cobra #9 (which I can only assume is some kind of hotrod). Imagine the chills you'd get when you heard that music hit!
jajajajajjajajajaja

8:30 victim of circumstances ----- que buen temita csm
I was raised on knuckles sandwiches
In a alley crib
In a jungle of knives and chains
Had to fight to live
Why was I born down here? It just ain′t fair
I'm just like any man, ain′t no clothes to wear
I'm just a victim of the circumstances
Pointing fingers and dirty glances
The barking hounds of Hades
Was born on my heel
Big eyed little you type woman turn up your nose
When i walk the streets in shabby clothes
If you walked in my worn boots
For just one day
You wouldn't look down on me ′cause i′m this way
I'm just a victim of the circumstances
Pointing fingers and dirty glances
But no one understands and no one cares
God knows I try to rise up
But all in vain each time my reputation slanders my name
Oh this just ain′t my fault
I was born down here
I'm just a victim of the circumstances
Pointing fingers and dirty glances
I′m just a victim of the circumstances
Pointing fingers and dirty glances
