Always my favorite video to come back to, I admire her story and triumph. She’s someone that deserves recognition and respect as much as anyone with a PhD or any craft that requires that much experience.
amazing! i used to think i wanted to be a raft guide, went through training and did my practicum at a rafting company for half of a summer taking people down rivers.. in the end i realized it wasnt for me but i cherish those memories that are close to my heart. one day i'll be back on the river- just under different circumstances. go girl!!
"It's not how you run the rapids in the Grand Canyon, anyone can run a clean line, it's how you react in situations of stress" that's some wise words right there
It's mostly true, but not everyone can run a clean line, of course. It's exciting and uneventful when you run it clean. I agree that the important part is knowing how to deal with it when things don't go as planned.
On a commercial trip a couple years ago and we got pushed left at Bedrock. It's be a while since I've felt like things could go south. It took us three tries to get out of the left eddy. A very fast peelout then the next 10 seconds things got interesting, turned out okay. Guide, brass ovaries
Thats funny....I know a couple people who graduated to Dory trips in their second year of guiding in the Grand. Its still super special...but it doesn't always take decades and 100's of trips.
don't mean to distract from the inspiring nature of this content but I'm surprised no one else noticed or commented on ambers high five at the 50 second mark where an accident seems to occur. I have been a victim of the polka dot pants myself. (word to the wise, don't check it with your hand) #shart
Hey Yeti: As a former canyon guide from the 70s and 80s, let me assure you that NO ONE CONQUERS the Grand! I've seen lots of hot shot up and coming boatmen and boatwomen get their butts handed to them down there. You might want to edit the last line of your description...

John Shocklee is my spirit animal. The dude lives a way cooler life than any millionaire... money can't buy what he lives

Can someone tell me what type of Lifejackets Amber and Shocklee are using? The ones with the front pouches/bags would love to get my hands on one

Why do you live in Akron if you love floating the Colorado river?
Anybody know the name of this guide company?
Oars
What is the song in this video?

Yeti hates NRA.
I just bought a new Engel Cooler. Unlike Yeti they DO support the Second Amendment. As a 2A supporter i will NEVER own a Yeti product.......EVER!
Read what actually happe4ned with Yeti and the NRA (and others), rather than just rely on 2nd or 3rd+ hand reports.
NOT the most coveted.....sorry to burst your little bubble. Try being a firefighter, a little more satisfying.
Try being a rock. Much more sought after
Huffing smoke all summer for minimum wage, yeah what an awesome job
