100% on point, Dovin had/has huge potential as a character as he could have been fleshed out through a rather large number of character development pathways. These paths could have been easily blended together in terms of his moral choices and even follow one another to extended his great story possibilities.

Exactly! My thoughts are in the previous video.

When I first started playing magic the first deck I made mine around Dovin. Now, his planeswalker cards aren't the best and neither was the deck but he was always really fun to play but seeing him get killed so easily and pointlessly just breaks my heart. I'm hoping one day wizards retcons Dovin and brings me back somehow because he had so much more potential than a mustache twirling villain like Nicol bolas or Tezzeret

I agree - there was so much that could have been done with him, it's a shame what happened.

Dovin Baan had such a hard 180 I was confused. Even in the Kaladesh story, Baan was a very complicated character. He fought the Gatewatch, sure, but he also minimized casualties obsessively and punished Baral for his crimes against the Nalaars. He can be self-centered and self-aggrandizing, but he’s dedicated to making his world better. He just believes he knows better because of his gift of seeing flaws. I was excited to see him return, but I felt he would be another Tevash Szat: a villain who was more a misunderstood antihero. RIP you beautiful six fingered bastard.

Yoooo, awesome video, finally someone who sees dovin like i do, he was never a real bad guy! if they ever RetCon a thing in mtg again then it better be his death! Dack and Domri´s death wasn´t that awesome either and i think we still have to see if Gideons death and Bolas´ inprisonment is a finite thing...

I could see if they put some form of effort into making lore why he joined bolas it could have worked, maybe the classic train dilemma. What is one world or a couple of planeswalkers to whatever bolas had promised him. Also him loosing his sight could have been really cool, like a justice is blind or something, maybe even push him to seek Compleat perfection through Phyrexia. I would prefer him to be multidimensional and neutral, but even if they wanted him to be a villain they could have used the same flaws set up and the potential of their story instead of just killing him off for no reason and making him a boring villain. (Ps. could you imagine a creepy blue/white phyrexian Dovin with someone elses eyes trying to make the masses into "Perfect Forms" in a mad attempt to make utopia, better then just dying.)

Magic has this weird thing against white characters where they either become totalitarian zealots or... just die. I get it that law and order can get to people's head but a standard good guy wouldn't be bad sometimes
