I have a friend who lives in HK and was a livestreamer. She explained to me that most people who watched her was 27-45 year lonely man, who stays at home all day and the only interaction with human beings they have is with Her, livestreamer.
Edit: she stopped livestreaming becouse she was unhappy and had depresion. She did not have time for herself, as that time was spent thinking about what to do next in the livestreaming.

I livestream when I was younger because I was lonely and wanted friends. I thought being able to spend time with a community all day would make me feel less lonely and sad. As lovely as people were it didn't help. It's like because they're not with me in person it never truely satisfied the need. They know alot about me and felt close to me but I just feel isolated. There were also incidents of people who wanted more and got very angry I didn't give or understood.

As someone who has a damn good friend who works at 7-Eleven and as someone who has worked at 7-Eleven myself, be cool with the cashier and they will give you the donuts that they can't sell for free. We used to donate the donuts that didn't sell to a homeless shelter just down the road and the workers at the shelter were so cool to us we would also give them free fountain drinks.
Also, if you're in Emergency Services (fire fighter, police, ems, etc.), you get free fountain drinks and coffee. That's 7-Eleven policy.

I think the craziest thing I have peeked behind the curtain of is Japanese idol culture. The agenceis quite literally treat their talents like walking bank accounts. Anything they do, or that happens to them even if its serious or personal, agencies will spin a story around it and make shit tons of money off one of their talents. The contracts they are manipulated to sign are pretty much just indentured servant contracts that pay well. Nothing they do, say, have happen will be private until the agencey determins someone more attractive can replace them. Its actually nuts.

When Asmon talked about how Nickelodeon did things, it reminded me of the "relationship" between "Dake and Josh" and how later in life everyone was weirded out that Josh didn't invite Drake to his wedding saying "you betrayed him".
Dude... they were never friends, they were co-workers... Josh didn't invite Drake because he's not his "friend".
Drake made a fuzz online, Josh HAD to cave in to maintain his image with the fans... and a few months later the P allegations hit the news and Josh backpedaled his position real fast.
No one that does things to entertain you and capture your attention is %100 genuinely "your friend", not the live streamers, not the Hollywood actors, not the youtuber, not Markiplier.
You can argue that some artists care more about their audience than others, that some artists genuinely want to care about you, but due to the nature of his job it's nigh impossible to achieve... you're an amorphous blob of "people" that can't stand out from the crowd for more than 24 hours.
A streamer may really remember you, but he is just incapable of "caring" about you more than the relatively lose interaction trough the screen.
Hey! at least with this live streamers you can raise their awareness of you trough money hahahahahaha

This is so prevalent in China because of the one child policy.
Because couples were only allowed to have one child, disproportionately more female fetuses were aborted than male. When it became illegal to check for a fetuses gender, many female babies were abandoned. Today, in China there is about 40 million more men than women.
China is patriarchal and misogyny is prevalent there. Women were raised as second class citizens, sometimes even as a burden that the family had to find a husband for and pay for the dowry. This changed when parents could only have one child. They had to put all their hopes and dreams on that child, regardless of the child's gender. The child would have to take care of their parents in their old age. So girls were all of sudden raised to have agency, to want more than just be house wives whose job was to obey their husbands. The problem is that the men were still raised according to their old traditions, so now in China there is a discrepancy between the expectations of men and women. More and more and in the work force, earning their own money and building their own career. Even though China has made it possible for parents now to have two children, many are still choosing to only have one or none.
Because of the male to female ratio in China, women are the ones with the choice. They don't need to settle. They get to choose someone who fits their lives.

That is why Apple had to build nets around the Foxconn manufacturing dormitories, the workers would get so stressed they would jump out the windows. Apple just paid to have the nets installed and still has 90% of all Iphones made on the Foxconn Campus.

Add to that extremely predatory terms around scandals or media coverage with huge fines and they're really not having an easy time.

I think if more creators applied what I can only describe as your guidelines or rule set, it wouldn't feel as tainted and lazy as it's become. Thoughtful commentary, real time engagement with your own viewers, honest assessment other creator(s) and source content (if multilayered), and not always taking the obviously popular position (or always taking the outrage position), elevate the style. IMO watching a fully produced TV show or Movie, and periodically adding a "This is shit!" isn't meaningful transformation or effort on the streamers part. So hats off for not being the latter.

    Balanced take:
TL;DR : Men? Stop it! Women? Stop it! Streamers? Stop it. Everyone have some self respect and stop throwing money at people just to get the illusion of emotional connections, and stop recieving money to maintain the illusion. Para social relationships are bad. Streaming and the internet might've been a mistake.
Lonely dudes trying to buy their way into relationships:
    Stop it! Get help.
She's not actually into you, she doesn't know you, she doesn't love you.
Maybe she loves your money, but I almost certainly guarantee she doesn't have anywhere near as emotional investment in you as you do her. You may want to plow her, fair enough, but we both know that's highly unlikely at best. You're not going to get a relationship with her just by throwing money at her on stream. Stop simping! You're hurting yourself, and enabling scammers, pua's and other awful ideological bad actors to further exploit you, by telling you it's not your fault, and here'swhy all women are streetwalkers. Take some responsibility for yourself.
Streamers, especially of the tub/kiddie pool and selling fart jars and bathwater varieties:
I get it. It's free real estate.
These pay pig lonely bottom of the barrel beta bitches are throwing money into the street, everyone else is hoovering it up, why shouldn't you get the bag too?
If you're not doing it, someone else is, so why not get paid just for existing ? They want the illusion that they have a chance. They want to lie to themselves. They're consenting adults and no one's holding a pew pew to their head and forcing them to throw money at you.
Besides that you put the time and effort into keeping your body healthy and making yourself look attractive. Hell, maybe you're not even doing that, and they're still trying to throw money at you.
Desperate degenerate lonely men with more disposable income than sense seems to be increasingly common these days.
You do you, but are you happy with objectifying yourself ? Is making and maintaining para social relationships really what you want to do with your life? Are you comfortable with randos draining their bank accounts or blowing their inheritance on you not feel just a little weird and sad and creepy?
The longer both sides continue to repeat the behavior, the more ingrained it becomes socially, and the more it accelerates. Which causes more loneliness and deepens the divide between the sexes and increases the antagonism between them, which gives rise to more Andrew Tates, who exploit and accelerate and spread unproductive ideologies that further increase the divide and antipathy towards each other.

To be fair, just because it’s mens fault, doesn’t mean it’s not also womens fault. Both parties contributed in creating this situation.
We all need to think about how we contributed to this. I don’t pay livestreamers, and I don’t intend to, but I can see what kind of loneliness would drive someone to do it. They can’t meet people in real life and survive on fantasy. Rejection is one of the most powerful fears humans have.
That doesn’t mean it’s ok to exploit them, but there’s probably some desperation on part of the women as well. They’re selling themselves, a sort of digital prostitution. I can see why someone would do that, too. Doesn’t make it good or virtuous, not even evil, necessarily.
So what caused this situation to happen? That’s what we need to find out and stop.

    • @thegrimharvest
      @thegrimharvest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Wild guess...going really dystopian with my speculation here...but maybe they use fake books, because real books might could be read, theoretically, and said book might possibly say something the government doesn't like, or want their citizens to know about considering how censored their internet and media are.
Or maybe it's like someone's brother in law or who ever has a business selling fake books, so which ever manager's in charge of buying set pieces for the streamers that have to fill their fake bookshelves in their fake bedrooms with fake books makes sure to kick back to their brother in laws company or whatever, and is the only one they can get their fake books from.

    • @Frombehindyo
      @Frombehindyo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

My guess is the company just buys them in bulk so they cost almost nothing compared to their income. They have the advantage that since they are hollow they weight way less than real books which is useful for transportation, and they will be transported a lot if streamers only stay in business for a few months.

It's a business enterprise and it seems to be doing pretty well. The streamers get donations, and the business gets a cut. That's not what's dystopian- there are similar operations here in America. The difference is that in China, an employer can legally say "You didn't make enough money so you're not getting a day off this month" and it's final. That is what's horrible- the lack of worker rights. Sure, it happens in America sometimes, but it isn't legal. In China, you work the hours that your boss sets and you do whatever arbitrary crap they tell you or you're out of a job and may find yourself working in a sweatshop. THAT is dystopian- the ridiculous amount of power the supervisors have over their employees.

Most people can resist temptation but these carefully crafted manipulation tactics are much harder to resist. Industry is moving more to abuse and psychoanalyze instead of providing quality. Mainly moneyless young women, a couple older women whales, some married some not. And of course, also rich women who are trying to get into an exclusive romantic relationship with the streamer, those are the crazy ones.

FYI, thousands of viewers for a live stream in China is considered the lowest of the lowest viewing number, whatever platforms appeared in the video is definitely unpopular and not heavily regulated, leaning more towards "Chaturbate" than "twitch" platform-wise
