From an outsider's view, Skyline is currently useless because it doesn't go through the main spine of Honolulu. However, once it goes all the way through, it will be very useful, and it should make overall transportation on the island much more feasible.
Bashing Skyline is really easy, although coming up with solutions going forward is proactive and productive. As a lifelong Hawaii resident, I CHOOSE to lean towards ALOHA!
I rode the rail a few times a week when I was stationed in Pearl. It needs to go further to make it worthwhile. It cut 20 min of my commute to Waipahu. But if could ride to town at train speeds during rush hour, I’d go to Chinatown and Ala Moana a lot more often.
When will the Airport Station be online? That will give a reason to take the rail. Making the Holo card hard for tourists to get is a good indicator of the State being Stupid again.
I sing it's praises every chance I get. Today I took the train to work using my bicycle to extend my ride two Pearl harbor During rush hour. On kam highway my helmet flew off and It got ran over. Now you need to know you can't ride a bicycle on base without a helmet. So any other day I would have just gone home and called it a day after fighting traffic all the way back to Ewa Beach But thanks to the rail I was able to make it back home get another helmet and ride the rail back to work and make it on time. I was amazed thanks to the rail.
@@onekewlbraddah8460 Yep, add Hanabusa and Dela Cruz to the list of "geniuses" who steamrolled this against public opinion for decades... Now they can make the big money in the private sector with the developers "Urbanizing Oahu" ie turn Kapolei to Kalihi into Kakaako. We all knew who the rail was for, now they can buy all the mom and pop shops and single family homes along the rail line and make bank off luxury condos.
At $3 per ride and the current 250 riders per hour (I doubt that number over a 24 hour period, but...) that's $6,570,000 per year in revenue. Assuming that there are no workers to pay, no electricity bills, no maintenance, etc...the cost, $10 billion, will only take 1,481 years to recoup. What a deal! They say it can handle 10 times the current load? Great! It will only take 148 years to recoup! What a great investment!
It’s much, much worse than that. “In all, 1,165,821 passengers will have ridden Skyline between July 2023 and today, according to the city’s Department of Transportation Services, which operates Skyline. 😢wasted money, super ferry did better for less. By 2029 the cost will exceed 15B and the current cars will be outdated. The tracks will show significant signs of deterioration from underground salt content.
This was predicted from the beginning. Now, all the money spent for nothing. It has to provide some convenience…it’s the rail from nowhere to nowhere!!
never going to be profitable. maybe in 10 or 15 years if the rail reaches Ala Moana, Waikiki, or the UH or maybe they can increase the size of UH-West Oahu to include a lot more undergrad studies so students have a reason to go to Kapolei instead of fighting for parking in Manoa.
It must reach Ala Moana for sure - it is a big hub that gets you to the airport. Bus takes a very long time and train is the better option. There are also plenty of continuous private/city buses to Waikiki hotels from Ala Moana.
I'll never ride it. Nothing but a waste of money. Someone needs to do a story on WHO made money on the useless rail. Shoud never have been made. I don't even think 250 an hour ride this thing. It's called "cooking the numbers"
Lol i live on kam, its rare to see more than 10 people everytime it passes unless they sitting on the ground. Plus why does it run after hours. Plus why does the station talk way after hours when its closed 😂
doesnt reduce emissions or serve people with limited mobility that cant operate a vehicle. also cant be done on congested stroads because of noise issues and lack of space to build, especially stroads that cut through residential areas. this country absolutely has to move away from reliance on cars if we will continue to call ourselves a developed nation.
Very much NEED this to extend from the west end station, Kualaka i East Kakopei, along the old railroad right-of-way at ground level near Roosevelt Ave, to the Ko Olina Resorts (Marriott, Disney etc) and on to Nanakuli !! Get the resorts to pony up some of the money. H-1 is a nightmare!!

Skyline SHOULD be bashed. False promises, lies and deception for political purpose. Residents of Hawaii have been and continue to pay for this scam.
Aloha getting expensive these days

Not worth it, $3.00 . Starting no where going no where.

tried it twice. It's alright. I have no use for it in my real life. Just for entertainment purposes.
Exactly. Who is making money? Make an accurate report on that. Traffic definitely didn't get better.

Big empty parking lot where Sears/Zippys used to be at pearlridge mall. Common sense to turn that into a stop but too late
