  • Learn how to properly export and save your pictures from Lightroom as JPEG, TIFF, PSD or PNG. Know the right settings and formats to export your images for different purposes. Wrong export settings can create change in colors and quality might degrade. In Lightroom you can batch save a lot of images at the same time with the same settings unlike Photoshop.

In this video we are going to learn several ways in which you can save a file in Lightroom. Saving a photo is known as Exporting in Lightroom as in many other applications. Saving or exporting the file does not affect the original RAW file. The saved file is actually a processed image of the RAW file itself with all the adjustments applied and the RAW file being intact and safe at its original location.
Saving a file in Lightroom is all about answering questions one by one. In his video, we will learn how to properly answer those questions acctording to you needs as it will differ from purpose to purpose. An image getting ready for print will have different settings from the one which is going to be published on the web. Besides, if you want to upload this image to social media, the settings will be even more different.
To export a file, it is necessary that you are in the Library module. Then, you have the option to select multiple images at once and export them or you can select one image and export it too if you are looking forward to use it for a specific purpose. To export, you need to open the export dialog box and to do that, either press the export button on the left panel of the library module or use the shortcut Ctrl/Command + Shift + E. Then, figure out the location and the select it. Then Lightroom will ask a couple of questions regarding File naming. How are you going to name the file? If there are multiple photos, what will be the nomenclature? What will the the quality of the image? Would you resize your photo? Would you like to sharpen your photo? What will happen to the metadata of the image? Do you want to embed the metadata with the image or you want to remove it? What do you want to do after export? Do you want to do nothing or open the images in Photoshop?
Lightroom also lets you add watermark while you export your images. This is indeed a great feature because it allows you to add your watermark to multiple image all at once in one click. Once you define your watermark, whether it is a text or a logo, Lightroom can also decide the size of the watermark according to the proportion that you specify. It will adjust the size of the watermark with respect to the image size since two images with different sizes and orientations exist.
Once you have got all your settings in place, you can go ahead and click the export button and your images will start exporting in the background automatically. Here's a great tip. If you want to save another image or a batch of images with the same settings that you just applied. Select the images and go the FIle - Export with Previous. Bypassing the export dialog box, these images also will automatically start being exported to the same location with the same settings as the previous export.

For some reason I cannot save to original folder. As soon as I click Export lightroom warns me that I cannot choose to overwrite the existing file since some of them are the source file. Help!
