  • Batman: Venom from DC Comics is the story of Batman's drug addiction and recovery. As well as the creation of the super drug Venom, that was used to create the villain, Bane.

Great story! To me, the fact that the villains weren't metas, but just regular guys makes them more evil.

Killer croc was never a meta just a human with a genetic disease

Sad, but true. This story delt with some serious issues, but they did an excellent job with the storytelling. Thanks for the comment!

He stopped feeling the withdrawals as soon as he got there and knew his dope was in range.. if you’ve ever been an addict you’d know.

It was nice of the Dr and the General to give Batman his cape back after he passed out on the beach. He'd have never gotten out of that tower without it

One of my favorite early Batman stories. His formative years, especially within the canon of New Earth is one of my favorite eras. Great video, I don't think I've ever seen a review on this comic until now. Underrated gem along with Batman: Prey

With Batman's knowledge of chemistry, he could have synthesize his own version of venom...or hire someone to do it so Lucius Fox wouldn't find out.

The thing that throws me is why didn't Batman just get the doctor's notes and recreate the drug in the batcave? Batman is very capable of doing that.

Batman is a man in a world filled with gods. And he can also be a man cursed with knowledge. Yet he never truly uses that knowledge to try to become a god. For instance Batman probably could learn magic to make up for so much but chooses not to

Great story (with some wild turns) and video. When I read the Venom story years ago, my first thought was Batman could reverse engineer the drug and make his own venom…but the Legends of the Dark Knight series is set early on in Batman’s career, so perhaps he wasn’t capable of that yet. The cover to issue 18 is a classic by JLGL.

“Like it goes with most stories about addiction, he doesn’t care about the things he used to anymore.”
Yeah… so, one of the main reasons I got sober and was able to stay sober was to think of all the things I enjoyed doing before I started using. I bought a Nintendo switch and a 1TB micro SD card (not all at once mind you) and loaded it up with games. Well, that’s one of the things I did (pretty much did a lot of the same with other hobbies).
Initially I wasn’t enjoying playing video games as much as I used to. I set a time to play them and set goals like getting this game or getting that far in this other game and so on. And got past the part where doing a hobby I used to enjoy a lot felt like work and was just fun and interesting again.
Then got to a point where I don’t remember the last time I thought about using. Like it used to be when I thought about it I would play video games, piano, skating, or one of my hobbies from before I was doing this stuff and keep doing said hobby until I stopped thinking about using.
Now I’m just enjoying my hobbies and can’t recall rhe last time I thought about previous addictions.

I remember when I first read this story and thought that all the scene where Batman encountered the boulder needed was a thought bubble explaining why he couldn’t use his gadgets on the boulder.
Like explaining he smelled gas so couldn’t use his laser cutter, or it would take too long. Or if he used an explosive it would ignite gas in the tunnel or the concussive force of the explosion could kill him and the girl in such a confined space.

cool concept but i really dont think bruce/batman would react the way he did in many of the scenarios. like he's experienced and trained enough to think critically no matter the circumstance, so sissy dying doesnt really make sense
