△About Off-Track Family:
We are a family of 4 with 2 children. We are overlanding for years now on wild tracks in our Land Rover Defender 110.
Our expedition vehicle is a Land Rover Defender camper conversion. Some people say it’s more like a bug out vehicle but for us it’s the perfect 4wd off-road tourer with best 4x4 camping set-up.
We bought this 4wd rig brand-new in 2009 and the engine is the 2.4 tdci Puma version. We transformed it time after time in a real overland 4x4 touring camper and it’s now a perfect off-grid truck for wild camping, bivouac, or simply as an overlanding Defender.
We love enjoying time in nature and exploring the world as a family.

How to plan a 4wd road trip & How to find free camping spots | Overland Defender Camper - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
With so many countries banning wild camping do you ever have issues finding places to stay?
Not until now ;) as said previously we rarely stay more than one night, pack up early if we feel it's best and are mostly solo traveling. We try to find a place to stop overnight that wouldn't disturb anyone (locals, farmers, block a small track, ect). We do our best to be aware of the environment:)
Hello, I bring my contribution, it's been 24 years that I travel in vehicle, under tent, inside and now in roof tent, we when we choose a country we set ourselves goals, (thing to see, place to visit) it allows us to manage the time during the stay, not to arrive at the end and say oh too bad we would have liked to see that, if it's in Switzerland it's ok but if it's a long trip abroad we find it's a shame, that's before leaving. On the spot, we don't use P4N and Ioverlander either, there are often too many people and there are much more beautiful corners to discover, the day we don't use GPS, but the good old paper map, it allows everybody to see where we are going to realize and we have a general view to say ah cool there is a great thing there, that we would not have seen on the GPS, we fix ourselves a maximum of 3 hours of road per day, and around 4 pm we look for a place to sleep to enjoy our evenings. In Switzerland on the other hand I look for corners according to the region before leaving, there is too much prohibition and it is frustrating to spend 2 hours to look for a corner,
Thanks a lot for this great contribution and sharing with us your way of doing. This adds a lot of value and will surely also help! The paper map is a good idea to have a good vision of the surroundings by all the passengers and having everybody involved. :)
It is the same for us too, we are located in Belgium and wild camping is prohibited in the country, no exceptions. So we have to travel abroad and that takes up yo at least 5 hours driving before we can get to somewhere with the nicer views. So weekends are tough for overlanding in Belgium.
I really subscribe to the point you made that planning should not be stressful to begin with .... great point ! Happy New Year ! Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for your message & subscription :)
The best planning is no plan :-) I like the approach, finding an overnight spot is like a treasure hunt,... I need to adopt that mindset on my next trip
Thanks for your message :)
This is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing these insights on how to approach these topics. I especially do like the respectful approach, as many "Overlanders" I know, see and hear of tend to be rather rough and tough, also with nature, than demonstrating a respectful and grateful mindset for nature's valuable gifts. However, this might come with the family as an aspect and I do see it as a very important lesson to understand, not only for children, that good things never come for free and easy. Part of the game, the earlier you learn, the better. Thank you so much, stay safe and keep the spirit!
Thanks for your nice comment! I agree with you!
Great! This is what I was looking for!
Very happy it helps :)
Excellent video and information 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks a lot! :)
Thank you that has helped a little, as I tend to over plan trips at times
Great! thanks a lot for your message :)
Great content, very useful . Your out look on enjoying the fun of finding a camp spot makes over landing trips so much more enjoyable . Thanks for sharing your awesome videos with us all your over landing friends . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
Thanks a lot for your message Steve. Cheers!
Interesting points, I'm planning to go camping next year, since I am a newbie I'm trying to see different videos on the matter, and eventually move to overlanding, going to Latin America, Iceland and Australia will be my next goal in the far future. Gracias por tus consejos, me encanta tu cabello y tú sonrisa!!
Thanks a lot & happy you find it useful. Great projects you have!

Thanks for your message. We have an vid talking about our mods and as we made some upgrades we will share another soon.

Nice video 🍻
Thanks! Cheers
Hi there, thanks for the information. I would have another question. So not everywhere in Europe you can just drive offroad and camp legally in the wild. How do you get around this? Or do you just take the chance ? Thank you!
It's different in every european country. We always do our best to camp where there's no forbidden signs. Sometimes in more easier than others.
@@offtrackfamily thank you for the reply! On the places you have been to, were there any weight restrictions on the vehicle? So maximum 3500kg? Or could a heavier vehicle also go to these places? Really awesome places you have found in Europe!
Thanks! Difficult to say as we don't need to watch out for those particular signs. I know you can add weight & height of the vehicle in some GPS (ours for example) and surely in some apps (would have to research which one) to help not take problematic roads. But no idea if this is 100% reliable.
@@offtrackfamily Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!
Subtitulos en español también. Gracias
Hi, I added but hope it'll be understandable :)
How did you plan trips when children were smaller/younger?
The planning was the same as now, the only difference is that we were less free camping.
молодцы классно
Thanks!
