Thanks for watching Priya!
Merci Isabelle de partager ta technique et de nous permettre d’assister à la réalisation de tes œuvres. C’est fascinant d’assister à la création de visages aussi réalistes.
Merci beaucoup Pierre. Tout le plaisir est pour moi!
Isabel...you are my absolute favorite! Thank you for the lace tutorial particularly. I have used lace itself as a kind of stencil before...but hand painting and the gauze texture is superior! I just live to watch you, as many others do! We appreciate your talent and teaching so very much!
Thank you for your comment Nikki! You made my day!
TOUTES AUSSI MAGNIFIQUES LES UNES QUE LES AUTRES !!! 😍 😍 😍
C'est vraiment très gentil Quilès!
Wow! So beautiful. You must have endless patience to do all those layers.
You are right Diane, this is the main challenge. Sometimes I have to stop and work on something else to rekindle the flame...
Never failed to leave me in awe and emotional. N my high-school, these are the paintings that I would spend minutes staring; oil paintings. Now I have a chance to learn to draw them from you . U are very inspiring
Many thanks for your comment andrew1234856!

Thank you so much Elan!
Phenomenol🎨🏆😍👏🌹
Thanks a lot sky77vista!
Excellent as always. Using a high contrast subject is quiet bold for teaching a lesson. Also, I think the lace steals the show and would have made the lesson in itself. :)
Thank you so much for your comment Open!
Amazing video and some very useful tips. Thanks for posting
Thank you for your comment Carol! I am glad you liked it!

Great. Thanks for the sharing.👍👋
I really enjoyed the video, you are a real inspiration!!
Thank you so much Richard!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have hungered for your narrations. Your voice, with the pearls of wisdom was food to a starving artist. I will play this episode over and over. I would love to see your work in person someday. I like the idea of saturated colors as the underpainting being covered by more muted or subdued tones. Also, most artist say save your tonal best for last. You block in with your high notes and low notes- like a singer warming up their voice and then fill in the range with each layer. Your work appears to be ultra-smooth. Surface or technique or both? I could go on and I will by watching this again...Merci.
Thank you so much for your comment Nelson! I am always happy to help!
i just got your Video today and watched it, very very great paint
Thank you @carmenschneider1627 !
Greetings Isabel
Many, many congratulations on the new format, as it succeeds beautifully.
This was so interesting to watch on so many levels; it's no wonder that your creations take several weeks before reaching fruition.
Thank you for sharing your excellent technique with us although it still misses out on the vital ingredient of just how you manage to capture the magic of making your work come alive.
You instinctively know where to place some yellow or red etc. in just the right places, even though it initially appears odd; but you always succeed and avoid a jaundiced look somehow.
That to me is the 'masterly' aspect of your skill level.
Have you ever had problems with reaching a completion point, the temptation of trying to correct an asymmetrical face and painting something which just isn't there so to speak?
I must say that it's interesting to see you invert the painting to get a different perspective although, as you painted the eyes, I felt that it would have worked against me, on a personal level, rather than act as an aid; it made it seem like a different painting somehow.
Is this a tip that you developed yourself or a legacy from your training years?
Anyway Isabel, thank you so much and congratulations once again on the new format and your time in creating it!
Best wishes
Nick Harvey
Thank you so much Nick! The first time I inverted a painting, it was to paint the outside of a right arm. Being right-handed, my gesture was more natural, the brush worked much better this way and I realized that I had to apply this technique to future paintings...
Hi Isabelle
Well that's a very interesting observation to make and we are all glad that it reaps such wonderful rewards for you. Has your style changed in portraiture over the years or do you tend to follow the winning format that you currently employ?
I dare to believe I have evolved technically with the years of practice. I choose my models in a different way and I am currently working on a larger format that is very exciting for me. Stay tuned! Thank you for your comment Nick!
Isabelle you are very Talented! God Bless you!

wow, wonderful
Thank you so much Himan!
Hello! This is so so amazing! I was wondering what brushes do you usually use the most for the small and precise details and to lay the image on first over the graphite lines. I have been struggling with precision in small areas and am looking for the right brushes to improve my technique. Thank you so much!
I like to use small square brushes with short bristles, preferably new.
Hi Isabel. You are the best of youtube...
I have a question.. how many layers you could do in a paint.??
Thank you Mercedes! There are up to 7 layers in some areas but at least 4 overall.
Beautiful....
Hello. Could you add some detail on how you fixed the graphite underdrawing, please? Thank you.
It is possible to put a coat of fixative on the graphite before starting to paint. Personally, I don't fix it. It fades and mixes into the paint. This prevents lines from appearing through the dry paint. It is a personal choice. I hope this has helped you spanixtan!
@@IsabelleRichardArtYour underdrawing is visible when you apply the underpainting... Different painters, different opinions: its confusing ....Thank you, anyway.
I hope you go on narrating your videos, like you did in the last one. Beginners need explanations; otherwise we watch those paintings appear just like we watch a show, not a lesson.
That´s why narrated lessons channels and "paint along" sessions are growing fast.
Fantastic.Narrated your tutorial this much better.
How do you prepare your screens?
The background finish looks perfect
Aluminium painting panel 22” x 18”
Cleaned using isopropyl alcohol
4 coats of gesso spray
1 coat of a mixture of Vandyke Brown and Yellow Ochre for the colored background.
Thanks you for your comment Felix!

Muchas gracias.
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful painting. Thanks for the tips. Do You varnish your paintings. kindly reply
Thank you shrikant! Yes I usually put a coat of retouching varnish on my paintings to protect them. This allows me to rework the paintings several months/years later if I wish.
Wow that was amazing! Can I ask how long this painting took and how many times you let it dry and come back to it. I am just starting out! Cheers Steve
scusty1, it's hard to say. It took about 80 hours spread over about 20 days. Sometimes I work on the hair one day, the next day, on the face while waiting for the hair to dry... Sometimes I stop even though I could have continued. Let's say there are between 4 and 5 layers, depending on the area on the painting.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great....
Thank you Indrakeerthi!
Amazing
Thank you so much MYST3RY!
Please can u tell me what colours did u use to obtain the blonde color for the hair

Hi, what material did you use for the lace effect, thanks.
Hello Mark, I used a cheesecloth. I put a little hairspray to make it a little stiffer and it worked well...
Thankyou

Thanks for watching Robocop2015.
How did you learn how to oil paint? I am thinking about registering for studio art at the local college. Did you get an art degree?
I don't Jan... I was working in a color management department in the food packaging industry. I have therefore acquired a lot of experience in colour mixing and good observation techniques.
You are the best Isabelle!
