I remember seeing the Feel Good Inc music video a little bit when I was kid during the 2000s in my older sisters’ bedroom while their TV was turned onto MTV. I was pretty fascinated by this dark animated music video, I have never seen anything like it before. Then I found out about the Gorillaz and started listening to their music when I was 18 right before their 2017 comeback and have been a fan ever since.
@@CasuallyComics His zinger line grounds everything in a way that even the movie adaptation of Watchmen and the modern malaise of snappy, sarcastic Gunnian cannot match.
I love Gorillaz so I'm glad this comic exists. Because if not then we wouldn't have one of the best fictional bands out there. RIP Carl Weathers thank you
YO. I totally read this at the time and I'm pretty sure I still have the issues. But my brain remembered this as being "Tank Girl" so I totally forgot it wasn't. But as you were going through it all came back to me. Particularly the "Gallagher Island" comic. The Face had that type of energy so it was a perfect fit with that era of "Cool Britannia." Thanks for the reminder/refresher. It's a must get!
This looks like a fun collection. There's something I really like about how irreverent a lot of British comics tend to be. I'm generally more on the indie comics side because they don't feel bound to the same "rules" as the big two here in the US, but even then, we get indie superheroes a lot. Stuff like this and the (not that far off mainstream) 2000 AD/Judge Dredd comics are fun because they have the same love of the art form but don't play by the superhero rules.
I can't recall its name, but there was a double-issue one-shot that was lampooning the living daylights out of the newly formed direct market. And yes, it was a black-and-white. It's not a favorite since I don't have those, but it had the same sort of wry, ginger wit that these guys wanted to evoke. For rags I'm interested in reading, there're Shi and Dawn--some reasons are obvious, others not.
Challenging Question. I like it. I would say *Cannon Busters.* If you know Cannon Busters from Netflix. You might not know that Cannon Busters was originally a comic book back in the 2005, published by Devil’s Due and Udon entertainment. The cast looks very different from the anime on Netflix. Shame Netflix didn’t give Cannon Busters season 2 There is *Nightworld* from Image by Adam McGovern and Pablo Leandri. *The Last Witch by Conor McCreery from Boom Studios.* By March 2025 it would be 2 years since he announced on twitter that he making volume 2. I know it takes time but I am sad the Boom Studios are not highlighting The Last Witch like Something is killing the children and Flavor Girls. The sequel of Flavor Girls is out. Best to describe Last Witch. Imagine Avatar last Airbender but it in Irish Celtic folklore. I was about to say Firebreather but there already other TH-camrs making video about Firebreather’s comics origins. *Gogor by Ken Garing* a high fantasy adventure with a giant golem. What more can you ask for?
I just came across some of the stills of Whitey on Pinterest! Fan of Gorillaz since 2005 and thusly Jamie Hewlett’s work. Needless to say, pretty intrigued
For more British indie goodness, check out... Revolver, Deadline and Crises. All comics from the same era, when us 2000AD kids had grown up and wanted things a bit more edgy, whilst the UK was exploding with great music and fashion, but still dealing with the hell Margaret Thatcher was creating.
It was on bbc three it was part of a season of pilots only one of the pilots got picked up that was a show about a vampire a werewolf and a ghost living together called being human
Damn this was definitely pretty weird, but also pretty damn sweet and comforting! I'm glad this series got to exist and then come back all colorful and glossy once again!
I LOVE Jamie Hewlett's art. I've been a Tank Girl fan for years and l even love the movie; a few of my instructors at film school worked on the animated bits of it. I don't like the Gorilaz though.
@@CasuallyComics I thought Lori Petty was miscast. Part of the charm of "Tank Girl" is the juxtaposition of "tank" and "girl." Lori Petty's already established 'tough chick" persona undermined that dichotomy. Live-action "Hit Girl" pulled off that dichotomy much more successfully, imo. Also, Kangaroo Ice-T is just disturbing...
Carl Weathers will never be forgotten.
I’m currently doing an art study on Jamie Hewlett, so cool to see another series other than Tank Girl and Gorillaz.

"Forgotten"? Heh. RIP Carl Weathers!🫡
He's my favorite part of that pilot.

Just watched the Phoo Action pilot. Great episode. If the have a completed season they should release it. I thought it was awesome.
This comic isn't my thing, but I still really enjoyed your video. I appreciate when you highlight non-mainstream stuff.

Gonna be real with ya... Never heard of this. But hey, may check it out now, big Gorillaz fan. Also... CARL WEATHERS?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! lol
This vid reminds me of the movie American Splendor. I love learning about a comic's history. Oh crap! Carl Weathers!
This is for me. Wish I'd known about it before Christmas.
What's your favorite "forgotten" indie comic?
off the top of m'noodle, Nightmares and Fairy Tales is one. I Feel Sick in another.
Scott McCloud's "Zot!" One of my favorite books of all time!
Maybe brat pack. It's very dark but equally obsurd.

90’s Sub-culture… my favorite culture, truly the peak of humanity
i remember "finding scans" of this in highschool. it was out of order and did not help me understand the chaos haha
I didn't know this existed and immediately ordered it. Thank you for making this video.

The art looks like Paul Pope and Los Bros Hernandez and Clowes but I'm okay with that because they're the best and if you're gonna swipe...
What a great Boxing Day treat. Thanks for putting on your comics-snorkel and taking this deep dive.
This is wild.
I didn't know about this. Def need to check out
“I’m your fire starter !”
thanks a mad ton , im definately gona check this out, this is so damn cool
Well, thank you. Appreciate you showing us this.
Now I’m happy, one could say feeling glad.

The bbc did make a pilot called phoo action with Jamie winton as whitey

Jaime Hewlit one of my top fav comic artist. Was totally into tank girl.
I feel that Hewlit is very much an evolution from the work of Brendan McCarthy 😎👍
How in the world did they get Carl Weathers to be in that pilot? 😮
Amazon prime got some hidden gems!
Money
I'm super interested. I've never heard of this before. I really want to pick that up.
Yeah, this is totally the gorillaz art style
Sounds cool! I love the gorillaz so this might be right up my alley!
I'd like to see more like this
Looks like a Wild Ride!
Very Cool. I love Hewlett's style, but have a few Tank Girl archives and I find the writing/storytelling hard to follow.

What was the name of the graphic novel that had the science fiction anime cover in the background? It’s next to the graphic novel called the big hunt.
Link to the pilot please? Cant find it
Oh, this is so for me.
You're the mist adorable woman ever but I can't care about anime anything
Not my jam. Tried watching them and not for me.
Watching who?
